Lacquer has been incorporated into the daily life of the Japanese people since ancient times as one of the finest natural paints.
Its use has become more sophisticated with the development of Japanese culture, producing not only everyday utilitarian items but also outstanding crafts that are unique in the world.
Inheriting this cultural lineage of Japanese lacquer, the company is involved in the production of a wide range of objects in which lacquer is used, from shrines and temples to contemporary art.

In Japan, mirrors have been sacred since ancient times. It takes patience to create a mirror. It's also nice with the black mirror.

I love watching artists. Although I don’t do what they do, I try things for my own art hobby. It’s good to be observant if the watcher is a hobby crafter to improve or change or try. I’m sure these artists are glad that some of us pay particular interest because we do art too. I watched one artist who was working with paper. Can’t remember if it was here or another video from another group of artists. I work with paper. They did something to get rid of wrinkles. I watched and tried it and it solved a paper wrinkle problem I couldn’t figure out how to do for years. The artists I’ve seen here and other places are very patient as they do things. I tend to rush so watching their patience is teaching me more patience. To non artists all that means nothing. To me, it means everything. I watch, I learn, I try to apply. And to say hey you helped in an area I think is good feedback as I try things to put to actual use rather than just being an observer.

The love of hand rubbed black lacquer. Do an entire car.

Thank you for posting these videos. I absolutely love watching them. These people should be protected and treasured for what they do ❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊
Bro went in raw with that paint gun, RIP his 🫁
If only I could afford that! I could afford something like $150-$200 for a smaller version. I love black mirrors!
Amazing work! As a craftsman myself (leather for 41yrs) I enjoy watching others in different mediums, and as such I do wish there was more details given in the process, i.e. how many coats of paint and lacquer. At the end some object like a flower in front of the mirror to show how reflective it is. Keep up the beautiful work!
The talent, dedication, and patience are remarkable! I love seeing all the time-honored techniques still being used. Thank you for sharing all these amazing craftspeople with the world!
That would make a beautiful medicine cabinet mirror
❤❤❤ thanks for all tbe series - awe inspiring every episode ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Reminds me of a ganache cake I made once. Also had a great high-gloss sheen to it
Thank you again! I watched closely how he applied that paint coat on top and when he turned it as he did it, I tried that on a round piece of cardboard I put in my small cans on top of shredded paper and was amazed. The coating is much smoother and it spread out better. I watched closely how he painted the outside rim. I’m going to try to be neater when I do outside of my cans turning it as I do to make it smoother like he did his rim instead of my usual slopping on paint. A small thing to see but a big improvement on my things when I try. I’m always learning something new that I can adapt to what I do watching.

The smoothing is achieved with the wet sanding, if you look after his is dried initially it is very rough and uneven until he sands it then scrapes it rather than brushing

$ 2,000 - $10,000 a piece! Welcome to Japan!
Pretty to look at. But, I’m not sure how useful a black mirror actually is.
Sorry, I don’t have the means to become patreon, but I really love your work! 😊👍

Nice artwork
i like that this video doesn't fuck around with one of those previews it just gets right to it
Would make for a nice scrying mirror without the gold.

Very Nice. Artwork.

Gorgeous!
Where does the texture come from? You went from spraying a smooth disk to "scraping" on a half textured one
Beautiful! ❤️👍🏻
Beautiful work Sir, thank you for sharing.
Nice work, bad mirror 😁👍
I wonder how cold it is in their workshop. They’re wearing a lot of layers for indoor work. Is it for the lacquer or just lack of central heating?

Huh? You can edit comments. Also scrying is a dangerous satanic practice. As are all Pagan practices, they are nothing but demons deceiving those who worship at their alters. The “spirits” all have pure hate and fear of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and His beloved and Divine Son Jesus Christ. “Oh my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of thy Mercy” +---------+---------+ 🌹 “Pray the Rosary every day, in order to obtain Peace in the world…” -Our Lady’s Words at Fatima May 13th, 1917 🌹 +---------+---------+ -God bless 🌹Ave Maria🌹 +Viva Cristo Rey+

Gracias por el tutorial, ahora a fabricarme mi propio espejo con laca negra que tengo a montones de latas arrumbadas aquí en el patio trasero de mi casa.
Awesome
Does it actually work as a mirror?
step two is called sanding, not carving . nice video.
Странно, вроде бы такой простой предмет, но как не просто его делать, а так же выглядит очень красиво в итоге. Жаль не показали как отражает.
Thank you for your hard work.

100 лет, а спецодежду, респираторы, полировочную машинку так и не приобрели... с таким "на коленках- ручным" способом производительность и стоимость получается запредельная
Hmm, some of the phrases are kinda there, but not quite. 2nd process: Carve the base. -> "smooth the base " or "resurface the primer layer" 5th process: Scrape the surface -> "sand the surface" or "wet sand the paint layer"
How much does one of these even cost?
Didn't even show how good of a mirror it even is :
Столько работы, усилий, съемка, монтаж, но в самом конце получившийся продукт показали ужастно, отвратительно. Зачем столько времени это делать, если показанный результат можно намалевать за пару часов двуми балончиками краски. Где зеркало, где отражение, где показанная идеальная поверхность в конце?
Chiếc gương màu đen thật đẹp
It is beautiful and I appreciate your work! I must ask though why the uneven gold portion? Personally It upsets my sense of balance and symmetry. I was just wondering if this is a traditional way of making them, or just the artists creative choice? Beautiful work though! ❤
That's beautiful! Some thoughts: 1. The gold standard for creating perfectly flat surfaces is to rub three of them together in pairs, with the appropriately-sized grit/sandpaper/etc. in between. (Switch to regular lapping near the end, of course.) Look up 'Whitworth Three Plates Method' for more info. 2. If you look up 'diy router sled' for another way to flatten boards. You don't need to use a router, of course, just the method. You can, for example, use a plane/sanding block/etc. Whatever tool you are using, the method will result in fast, perfectly flat surfaces. 3. The perfect tool to pick up debris in paint/etc. is actually a syringe needle, as the tips are incredibly tiny and are sharpened to be generally flat. Combine that with the hollow center and you have a microscopic spoon, perfect for getting under the smallest particles. Even better, by pulling back on the syringe a tiny amount, you create negative pressure to hold them in place. You also can get them cheaply in many different sizes. 4. You should _defintely_ expand beyond Patreon, as *many* people are boycotting it over its tyrannical political and ideological stance. Ko-Fi and Liberapay come immediately to mind, and you can have accounts on as many other services as you want. I hope that these ideas help you to create even more art faster, with less effort, and even greater financial gains. Cheers!
