The Problems with Ozempic [What the Research Shows...]
Ozempic & Wegovy are very popular hacks for weight loss currently, and most doctors believe them to be safe long-term. Problem is, this belief is based on no concrete long-term evidence. Doctors evidently trust big-pharma so much that they will eagerly recommend these GLP-1 receptor agonists despite there being no long-term safety data in existence.

Fishtrips, You say you do strict keto while on ozempic, does the medication mess with your blood sugar levels? I am on ozempic and I worry it will make my blood sugar too low since I am not eating any sugar in my diet. Has that been a problem for you?
I agree with you, Dr. Berry. But I was on Ozempic for 8 months. I have PCOS and reached diabetic levels. I went keto (didn’t know carnivore at the time) I lost 20 pounds and plateaued. My A1C and Triglycerides were still very high. I went on Ozempic and it helped me lose 40 pounds. Allowed me to start exercising again because I was so heavy, it was hard to move my body. Off of Ozempic, down 71 pounds altogether, eat mainly Whole Foods prioritizing meat. Much more active. I can do 10 pushups when I couldn’t do 1 before. I’m glad I used it, but I’m glad I had a doctor that was very clear it was an addition and not the cure it’s marketed to be.

I'm disabled and exercise is very difficult. I have pushed myself to the point of further injury trying to lose weight. I've changed my eating habits and lost 20-30 lbs but plateaued. I'm at a point where I need something to help me get to a weight level that I can really exercise without hurting myself. I'm fully aware that this medication is not a cure but it is a tool to help. I was in the military so I do know how to manage nutrition and exercise. Most of my weight gain came from being injured and waiting years for corrective surgeries.

The sad truth is that as a society we need to address WHY so many people are overweight/morbidly obese/diabetic, etc. A pharmaceutical drug doesn’t address lifestyle, mental health, stress management, spiritual well-being and healthy habits. The side effects of any medication are risky and dangerous, but I feel the the standard American lifestyle and diet are the root cause of many illnesses. As a healthcare professional I encourage and educate my patients on these principles. Thank you for this helpful video!

I am simply stating that all drugs have side effects and are to be used as a tool (curb appetite therefore eating less) and in order to lose and MAINTAIN weight loss you have to make a lifestyle change. Wegovy is approved for long term use where other weight loss meds are not, ex. Adipex and you can discontinue this medication at anytime. Although obesity has been recognized as a chronic disease, it does not have to be unless the patient has other medical factors preventing weight loss. Reduced calorie intake and increased movement will result in weight loss.

On NO prescription medication and I feel great. I didn't feel this good when I was a teenager.
My doc gave me a prescription for Ozempic but the cost (fortunately) was prohibitive. I say fortunately because in my desperation searching for an alternative, I found your channel.. I started carnivore in March of this year and within 7 months I had dropped all the weight (40 lbs all gained after menopause). Today I continue at my pre pregnancy weight and size of 30 years ago. I With that I definitely have seen how a lung problem can develop with low levels of D. .( I'm also hypothyroid.) Still I would definitely keep thiamine in mind because that I believe Dr. Berg or someone else drew the connection between "air hunger" and Thiamine. I noted Thiamine with Benfotiamine also seems to keep the tingling in my hands less intense. Thiamine is very much connected with the autonomic nervous system and that also regulates the speed that things pass through it. If Ozempic is altering this there could be a connection between Thiamine and Ozempic and thus the very common symptom of "air hunger" in Thiamine deficiency. People with obesity who take Ozempic or Wegovy to shed excess pounds might get an unexpected benefit. Results of a small experiment published May 9 in the journal Obesity suggest that drugs containing semaglutide, the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy, might help reduce the risk of cancer. That’s because the study found that semaglutide restored the function of so-called “natural killer” cells, which play a role in fighting cancer but often don’t work properly in people with obesity.
I took Ozempic for 3 months. It didn't improve my numbers or my weight (so my doctor wanted to increase my dose). I started to struggle with chronic pain in my knees, hips & ankles. I could hardly walk and started getting depressed about my weight and health. After I started having kidney pain, I did some research and found other Ozempic patients experiencing similar symptoms. I stopped taking it altogether. After a month or so, I was able to walk and move without the chronic pain. My doctors was not happy, but I was. Numbers are slowly getting better with diet change.

Carnivore cured me. Spent 20 years on healthy/Whole Foods/plant based diets even keto) getting fatter & sicker… I have had a miraculous transformation. Got my life back!
So I started the Carnivore diet three weeks ago. I’ve lost 20 lbs down from 308. My eyesight is better which blew my mind. My arthritis in my knee and my hands are almost completely gone. I have type 2 diabetes and stopped the Ozempic two weeks ago. My morning glucose was 96! It wasn’t that good even with Ozempic. !!!! I feel great and am eating raw filets and eggs! I have tons of energy and my sleep is really different in a good way. I am shocked at the level of improvements in just 3 weeks… Im 50 years old next month and I’m on my way to my goal of getting down to my high school weight of 250! I’m excited about my life and the quality of it!! Thanks for this channel and Jordan Peterson!!
I am currently on it. 8 weeks now. Haven’t felt like myself since. This past Friday I did my weekly injection and I have been vomiting and having stomach pains. I went to the ER last night because I almost fainted. I lost 15 lbs but being sick losing weight is not worth it. This past Friday was my last injection!!!!
I love Ozempic. I took it for 6months and never went over the .25 “starter” dose and lost 30lbs. I have been off it for 8months and gained back only 2lbs. I did a gradual taper at the end so took every 8 days then every 9 then 10 and so on till off it. Taking Ozempic was one of the best medical decisions I have ever made.

I got Ozempic script from my Endocrinologist. Took 3rd dose (50) at 10:00 pm on a Friday night. Woke up next morning at 6:00am. Both eyes were totally blurred. Monday saw my eye doctor who said it was my cataracs. I had no catarac symptoms. Was told i couldnt drive legally. Couldnt see traffic lights or signs. My husband had to drive me everywhere. I know the enzyme in Ozempic had attacked my cataracs. After 6 months decided to get my cataracs removed. My last post op eye exam has my eyesight at just under 20/20. Im not alone. I think just exercising and seeing how hard you work for it helps you lower down your cravings. When I did workout, I was looking at the calories lost, and I always thought well I would be walking less by 50calories/day if I stop eating a chocolate bar a week. Overall, that would add up to around less walking by 40min/week, which I could use to take an extra nap or 2 or watch a movie or spend time with family. So, by thinking about calories, I dropped eating habits and I felt less hungry then usual almost all the time. Keep it up!

I like that your books on the shelves actually look like you reference them often.
My doctor prescribed Ozempic for weight loss, and I took it for almost 4 months. It was awful. I lost weight, yes, but it's pretty easy to lose weight when you're constantly nauseous, and repulsed by food. After 4 months I was tired, dizzy, constantly headachy, nauseated and had almost constant heartburn. I couldn't drink a glass of water without feeling sick. I no longer enjoyed my food, couldn't even look forward to a nice steak dinner since a few bites would have me feeling queasy. I realized that aside from whatever the drug was doing for my weight, I was also losing weight because I was on a starvation diet since I couldn't eat much of anything. I quit Ozempic a few weeks ago, and my energy is back, my headaches are gone and so is the nausea and heartburn. I would definitely not recommend this to anyone for weight loss!

The problem is that doctors are taught to give us pharmaceuticals, even though there are natural alternatives that can help us without all the side effects. I have PCOS. Not once had my primary talked to me about my diet or things I can do naturally to help it. At every point, the doctors recommended birth control, metformin, spironalactone, finasteride… And when I started losing weight to get in a healthy range by listening to doctors on KZread such as this guy and Jason Fung, then I finally met a doctor who didn’t want to give me drugs for my problem.

I am so glad that I heard this information from you Doc!!! I was on Ozempic for about 4-5 months when I had a horrible experience with my bowels and loss of mobility in my left leg. You are absolutely correct with how the A1C readings would always “read low numbers” but my sugar cravings were increased. Thank you for confirming my choice of discontinuation of Ozempic…in the long run I just need to do things naturally to lower my A1C and get healthier in diet and exercise. Keep telling the truth to patients and the public about the dangers of drugs.
Thank you for an excellent, balanced review of this medication.

Use to be protecting, caring, loving me … doesn’t want to lose me over our marriage but I saw him change so much that hurt me. He told me few days ago that he doesn’t have desire for sex, advice me to find somewhere to satisfy me! I was in shock. He was a jealous man and never wanted to share me to anyone. I was hurt and been crying, upsetting angrily… I dont want sex or cheat on him either. I want his personality comes back to normal but anything I say it does not matter anymore. We married for 23 years and had two grew up daughters. I am 48 and he is 45. His brain is not as the same as before he taken ozempic. He doesn’t care for the wife and the family no more. What can I do to save him!

After years of failed attempts to manage weight, I started wegovy. I lost 60 lbs in 6 months. I was able to eat normally, but for the first time, I felt full After a meal. Nothing prevented me from being able to eat a varied and healthy diet, it just kept me from overeating as well as stress or boredom eating. I was on Ozempic, lost 40lbs but started getting extremely sick and could not lose anymore weight. I stopped and actually started doing ketovore and I gained 5lbs at first but stopped having to take my GERD meds, have way more energy and sleep more soundly than I have in years. I’ve been doing it for 2.5 mos and have lost 5lbs I originally gained but feel so much better
I took it for T2 diabetes for about 3 months. I was able to get it for $25 a month under a program by the manufacturer. This stuff made me sicker than a dog. After increasing to the higher dose, I started noticing a lot of hair shed/loss. (normal thyroid function). Soon after injecting, it made me regurgitate and I threw up in my mouth quite frequently. I felt just awful and had to go off of it. My A1C only went down half a point, and I only lost about 4 pounds and a huge handful of hair from my crown area. Within a month of stopping, my hair came back, thank goodness.
Thank you, Dr. Berry. I began taking Ozempic in early 2021; at the time, my A1c was out of control, and the next stop was insulin. However, it _might_ help me lose a little weight, my doctor said. I am currently taking Trulicity, an older drug in the same class, because I was unable to get Ozempic due to it being diverted by the weight loss industry. I also COMPLETELY revamped my diet, as well as exercising (I currently walk/run 5+ miles/day). I do isometric resistance exercises (pull ups, squats, pushups, oh god soooo many pushups). I have lost 150 lbs. Just under half my bodyweight, and I do not have the muscle loss that you bring up. Now, did the GLP-1 agonist do ALL of this? NO, absolutely and completely not. Both my GP and psychiatrist fall all over themselves to reassure me of this. On the diabetic dosage, I could have expected to lose 3-5% of my bodyweight, not 50%. But what the GLP-1 agonists, and Ozempic in particular, did for me was give me the strength of willpower to make those changes. By dampening my incessant hunger, I had the chance to take a breather, re-evaluate my choices, and change. Will I be on it forever? That is certainly a possibility, but it's not in my plans. Competitive bodybuilding, maybe... 🤣

Bravo! People that do not get the food noise, will never understand it. It will always be "get willpower"! I hate that. Do they not see how many diets we've all been on. Do they think we enjoy being fat? It's ridiculous. I applaud you. I take compound tirzepatide. Started 7/1. I started at 392 pounds! I could barely move. I hurt so bad. I've been on so many diets. I even had weightloss surgery! Unless the mind talk is fixed nothing works. I am 342 today. 50 pounds gone. I'm still hurting when walking but at least I'm not out of breath. The biggest thing is FOOD NOISE IS GONE!!! It's so nice to not be controlled by the thoughts of food all the time. But unless you live with this, they will always say this is an easy way out, and we are weak or whatever. I don't care. I don't plan on going off of it just for the quiet mind.

For those that aren't using Ozempic for weight loss, my story my be helpful. Doctor Ken can correct me if I'm off base. At 180 lbs and 5'10, I have around 15 lbs to lose to get to the "recommended" weight for a male my height and age. A diabetic since age 40, now 62. Changed main meds several time over the years when I noticed my control of morning fasting was off and staying that way. I started keto (with real effort) 3 years ago and dropped from 238 down to 190 and hit a hard plateau. I was okay with that and told myself I could "ease" back in the natural sugars (fruits) and small amounts of breads. Well, a year later I was back up to 213. I got back on the keto wagon and 6 months later I'm at 180 +- 4 lbs. I still treat myself to some bad things, but stay fairly close to my salads and meats, and fats. From my perspective, I have learned that there is no going back to "ease" back in the sugars and breads. It is a life style change to get the weight to stay off. Back to Ozempic, I needed to switch off of generic Actos for the 2nd time (long term health ramifications) and wanted something to maybe help a little with weight loss as I had hit another plateau at 190 lbs. My doctor warned me of the "life long" use of the drug. For me, it is a risk of the lab rat, but I have also lived with long term exposure to "other" drugs known to cause long term issues. Pick your poison, I say. I don't have near the weight loss goals of some people who are using this drug for just weight loss. If I need to get off this drug, then with GOD willing, I'll have the strength to not go back to an unhealthy eating life style. Good luck to all in your weight loss goals!
I started ozempic for type 2 diabetes. I was obese BMI 38. When i first started ozempic, I had 1 side effect- throwing up. No warning, literally forceful projectile vomiting it was horrible. Once, i was on the highway and couldn't pull over and had to throw up in my purse while holding the wheel. This lasted a month until my system built a tolerence to the drug. Now Im down 40lbs I look great and feel wonderful! My A1C is 5.9. I'm so glad.i didn't let the side effect deter me. Your body will build up a tolerance, and you'll be fine. I highly recommend ozempic. The positive far outweighs the negative.

Whenever I hear "for the rest of your life" when it comes to medicine, I know the doctor has given up on the patient. Sometimes lifetime medicines are necessary (like insulin for some Type 1 diabetics), but usually it's because the doctor gave the patient inappropriate lifestyle changes to deal with a problem and then when they didn't work, out comes the prescription pad. Similar thing happens with statins. Ozempic is just the latest in a long line of "lifetime" pharmaceuticals.

Maybe there needs to be more kickback and medics' training needs to change so the focus is on the root cause of health issues and not on papering over the cracks using ridiculously expensive pharmaceuticals.

Wish I had seen your video a few months ago, before I had started the Ozempic…I may have made a different decision. At any rate, the weight is now coming off and my HbA1c and glucose levels are finally down to normal levels. Was always constipated and had headaches that were unbelievable. Yes i took a ton of electrolytes and a ton of fiber and I was still constipated and had bad bad headaches. I lost 30 lbs but it was because I was doing a lot of physical work and keto. When I went off Keto the OZ did nothing. Zero weight loss I understand everyone’s decision is personal to their story. The trade offs for not being overweight are a personal decision. But when you start getting abnormal test results for internal organs rather quickly that outweighs the benefit in my mind. Because you are doing irreversible harm to your organs.
