I grew up with very little money to spend on clothes so my mum always had to buy from the charity shops. Over the years, the charity shops have clearly figured out that resellers are doing and they've jacked up the prices Because of it. This obviously effects the poorest people that rely on these shops. A major gripe of mine, There's a few resellers who literally whinge about not making enough profit, when they bought an item for a couple of quid and sold it for 40 plus pounds. Really?

What’s the problem though, they were still selling the same items for the same price as always, the issue was they got the arse people are making money, that’s nothing to do with them. Once the item is gone it’s gone, they need to focus on getting stock in and sold and circulate stock bringing in more money. Like you said people go in for a bargain, always have. So sitting on stock for months trying to get top dollar makes no sense whatsoever. Reselling has been around since you could buy things.

I absolutely agree with what you have said. I have had 2 great sales. The rest have just been steady amounts. I became obsessed and ended up doing it 7 days a week. I just can’t do that. It’s a lot of work keeping up to it, boring and frustrating. I have enjoyed learning about antiques and jewellery but I’ve decided it’s going to be a hobby and do it when I can. Full respect to those that are making a living out of it but it’s just not for me full time. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. X

The thing that always gets me is when a reseller posts up what they've earnt how much they've made each mouth with figures etc. That's my business! no way would i splatter it all over social media, Tell people nothing i mean you wouldn't come out of a bank and go up to a stranger and say hello here's what i earnt just thought id tell you . The bit about when you said about finding those one off items like the book is so very true, it just doesn't happen all the time like some channels portray it and buy costs of various items its almost like there all in competition with each other. There's channels i like to watch but to be honest i don't watch as many as i used to. Good vid

I know this video is a little old but I just found it. And I wish there were more videos on youtube talking about "youtube resllers". Only showing the good side or reselling is really easy but its not reality. Its way more work than what people think. They think we just shop all day and thats it. But as you know, there is so much more to it. Anyway, thank you for making this video. Its not easy calling out youtube people. They get their feelings hurt very easily. :D Take care.

I agree with eBay, its hard work reselling 2nd hand items, after washing taking pictures then listing is time consuming, and yes I don't seem to sell as much as I used too. Think a lot of people have jumped on selling the vintage clothes wagon. Alot of youtube sellers cross sell on Depop, have you tried it ? You have to stay active on there too to keep your items near the top. Think I might give it a go.

I do love ebay, i mean i have my weeks where i get lazy but I've enjoyed building the foundations for a proper business. Eventually i hope to get staff and be a full time sourcer with my gf. It''s a gradual thing isn't it, it doesn't build in a day. I am paying up a lot more for things lately, i find it is working ok. I paid 85£ for a keyboard yesterday but it's worth about 200 and came with some extras and it's boxed so just that one sale is the equivalent of someone working 10 hours in aldi. I picked up a fish toy for 8£ Sunday and sold that for 80£ plus post two days later. Sold a pair of lights for 150 plus post that owed me like 5£. I don't think i can see myself doing anything else, which kind of annoys my gf as she wants to travel but we have loads of time to do that. It's like marmite for a lot of people, but it is hard work / long hours if you want to take it to a proper business level. It isn't for the faint-hearted.

Ebay was the place to sell in the 90's when i started. But they knew how important they were and they took advantage. The fees went up and sellers were banned for breaking any of the millions of rules they introduced. They became very bossy. They tried to force sellers to accept Paypal (owned by Ebay) and they decided that they would be the judge if there was a problem. I tried the other sites, Ebid was one of the bigger names, i paid £49 for lifetime free use of the site with no fees. I have still not sold enough to recover the £49. I gave up when they stopped allowing sellers to give negative feedback to buyers. Ebay is as good as dead now. It is well deserved and i will be happy when they finally close down. Amazon is the place to sell now. The fees are ridiculous but they provide a good reliable service and i make a steady income from them, although not a living wage. There are too many people buying in bulk from China. We need more sites to sell on. But i don't think it will happen. Amazon will get bigger and bigger until they have a monopoly.

It' s actually really hard to become a full time reseller. I started selling seriously last year with the intention of making it my main job but this has not happened. Now decided to use it as extra income beside my main job. Full time reseller Nic Hills said having a KZread channel does help sales but I think you need to have a lot of subscribers to really boost sales and I wouldn' t want to start a channel. Tbh some of these reseller videos are boring. Also think some buyers expect to get items for low prices and just won ' t buy if your items are too expensive. Credit to all those folk who are making an income from online reselling .

you made some good points. I completely disagree with the one about it not having an effect that resellers give away their secrets though. I think people giving away all their brand secrets and whatnot are assisting not only other resellers to completely flood eBay with those items and hence tanking the prices, but they’re cluing in any charity shop workers and managers to the value of items so they hike up the prices. It’s no wonder charity shops are so expensive these days when you’ve got knowledgeable youtubers telling the world what to buy and what not to buy. I honestly can’t see why any of them make videos as it can’t benefit their business at all. You get a new subscriber? Great! However that subscriber is only out to learn from you what to buy so they can potentially steal it from under your nose. That £60 toy that cost £2 in a charity shop could have been yours had you not told your ‘new subscriber’ about it.

@@pm4397 that's not what I said whatsoever. You've either misinterpreted everything I've said or you've not actually watched it and have just gone off the title. The problem for KZread resellers that I discuss in this video is that we share our stores and if we were to ever find a great deal that we didn't want to share, we have shot ourselves in the foot. I would never and have never said it is in any way bad to share anything ebay related on KZread! Like you said I literally do it myself.

@@pm4397 as much as they think they’re helping the reselling community they’re killing if off by telling the world what’s worth money and what isn’t. They all seem to forget that charity shop managers and workers (who probably all have their own eBay accounts) all have access to these videos, just like resellers do. Maybe these youtubers make more money than we think but I don’t get what they get from it. The knowledgeable ones that deal in niche markets particularly (such as clothing) are digging their own graves much faster as by telling everyone what to buy they’re taking money out of their own pockets and putting it into their subscribers. How is that good business sense?

A reality check indeed. Frankly I can hardly bear to watch any other eBay resellers on KZread. The talk of unending hundreds and thousands of pounds is just tedious and very suspicious! There are a couple of guys who seem to make loads of videos about reselling, and I can’t help but wonder...are they making all the videos simply because they’re so good-hearted they just want to share the bounty? Or is it all just talk to build a KZread presence based on hyperbole? Hmmm! I would be happy to achieve and maintain sales amounting to a few hundred a month, but even that is graft. I had a think about your recent auction activity, and given how tricky it can be to wait for and achieve a higher amount for items, I reckon there’s something to be said for selling more stuff but at lower prices. Someone like me can’t always wait to achieve a higher price, as we don’t have enough stuff on sale to provide an income while we wait! I’ll send you a separate message re my recent purchase, but just to say many thanks 👍👍😸😸
