    @@randomkid4783 they aren’t bad songs, but when a huge part of discographies are made up of the same formula there is a problem. In my opinion at least. Hylt on its own isn’t a bad song, the only problem with it is that blackpink has released a lot of songs with the same structure before it. I also get that the songs are for the company’s mostly to make money, but as a fan I don’t think it’s weird to dislike it when there is such a formula. In my opinion it would be for the best if there is more experimentation, but if you want to look from the company’s point of view I get that it’s for them the best.

    And they also rarely let them go on reality tv shows. For a group that big you'd expect them to be everywhere, but that's not the case. It's probably why they're not as popular in South Korea, aside from the younger gen. Since they don't do many reality tv shows, that older people watch as well, people of other generations don't know them as much.

    It's the freakin streaming culture and short attention spans. The reason Teddy's songs are so successful is because: - His songs are only around 3 minutes which makes it easier to stream (in terms of view counts) - Choruses themselves are written in a way that they are as catchy as possible. Instead of having long, complicated lyrics, it's just a few words chants that stick in your head immediately, and a repetitive melody. - Short verses and long choruses so the catchy part would play for the longest time in the song. - Two regular choruses and one "party chorus" or "dance break" or call it whatever you like, so it's not as repetitive as it would be with a third chorus. - And this party chorus is put at the very end because it's the most interesting part of the song and it makes people stick till the end. I personally prefer songs around 4 minute, those have the most room for structural experimentation, and feel less condensed and overly dynamic (as in they progress more smoothly) but Teddy's formula undeniably works. I don't think it's the formula in itself that is getting boring, but the genre and the soundscape. Teddy just can't get away from a very specific type of EDM.

    I don’t know, I think he sometimes deviates from the formula and experiments producing longs like playing with fire, AIIYL and ice cream. But boombayah, ddd and the songs he produced before blackpinks debut for other artists seem more boring to me everyday. The more he puts out the same soundscape and structures, the less I appreciate blackpink’s discography as a whole. Everytime a new bp or somi song comes out, I find it catchy, but also boring. He’s never really been an experimental genius, his formula itself and it’s ability to be catchy is extremely clever, but teddy park is only considered such a big name because of the successful groups and soloists he is tied to…

    to be honest, the only thing that makes his formula stand out is the artists who carries it. otherwise, it would just float into the ocean of many many similarly produced songs. the songs he produces for BLACKPINK are like, 90% identical sounding to each other regardless if its a title or b-side. same goes for Somi. his music formula is lazy, (almost) always the same and unexciting anymore.

    Really? I like the SM formula but it’s still there. Start checking how many of their artists songs have a talking section. Not rap. But just sorta, chanting together. I thought it was just Nct but Aespa and Super Junior came out with that formula. Heard it in a few Exo songs looking back. Haven’t checked Red Velvet, SNSD yet or soloists. But even Shinee had a bit of it, but I feel like they were strong enough in production to make it sound different and not just the exact same.

She knows that it's that kind of music that skyrocketed Blackpink to success and she probably thinks that it will work for her too. I mean, it kinda does since her comebacks earned her music show wins. Also to add, Somi does have a say in what kind of music she releases. A lot of Western producers worked on them, Rose herself grew up in New Zealand and Australia until she was 16 so English is her native language and her writing style is more probably Western. Both songs are in English and "Gone" is a folk/indie song with very little, if any K-pop influence aside from maybe the repeating of the word "gone" with that melody

    The problem with Teddy is that he’s proven that he can use the same formula to create very distinct sounds and songs despite the formula. Blackpink’s older discography proves that with how Boombayah, Whistle, and Playing With Fire all sound very distinct from eachother and have vastly different feels to them. Boombayah was a hyped up party anthem, Whistle was a lowkey song bursting with swagger, and Playing With Fire was a song that had a little more of an emotional and bittersweet feel. I just feel like since Ddu Du Ddu Du was released, Teddy has gotten really lazy and decided to slightly remix the same song for Kill This Love and How You Like That because all three of those releases have the exact same vibe and feel and are almost indistinguishable from each other. It’s also interesting to note that Teddy himself said in the Blackpink documentary that the reason that Blackpink doesn’t comeback as often and why there are so many unreleased songs is because they only release the absolute best ones out of the bunch. Ive seen many this formula criticism video, but this one is so well explained. The thing you said about yg groups like blackpink releasing few music every year makes so much sense. They starve their audience and after a long time when they release, fans have no choice but to digest that music, it feels exclusive and exciting. This party themed and the beat that are making their songs such bops. Same formula over and over again, and it will definitely work every time without any failure.

  • @maryemhammedi9483
    @maryemhammedi94832 жыл бұрын

    I think it's a mix of both . Since yg style is famous for being cool and as they view laziness as a trop of coolness , Teddy uses this formula with a beat drop in the chorest and no vocal . Also , yg is somewhat considered a hiphop company so it's natural that they would hire hiphop producer, which in my opinion , I think they don't know how to make pop choresses . Because hiphop is a very verses heavy genre . So I think Teddy stated doing the no vocals in chores thing at first out of pure ignorance and when it worked out for him , he kept using the same formula . Also , I think Teddy is not very good at experimenting with sounds , because when he tried in lovesick , it sounded very outdated and he didn't bring nothing new to tie the 2010 style of music with the nowdays style of music .

We've also observed some of the points made in the video. At the end, we both feel that Teddy shouldn't be the main producer for YGE's upcoming GG. We had several reasons why. But music wise, we just felt that to be able to differentate the new GG from the other YG GGS, they need to have a fresh sound. I think doing the same formula with the new GG isn't going to be beneficial for the group and will only gain them backlash for being a copycat version of their seniors. Maybe this way too far in the future and it will likely be that Teddy will be the main producer of the new GG. Interesting to see what the future holds for the GGS in YGE.

There is a reason Lady Gaga Desperately wanted to work with him a decade ago. Bringing in EDM was not a thing before 2012 and "drops" were really not a thing before 2015. Also, he did Somi's new song "Dumb Dumb" and although it has a switch-up it suits her and I think is a very solid work of his. They have a sonic brand for Blackpink and yes, people will get upset if they deviate too much from what is expected of them; this is proven in every street interview done in Korea on this matter. I remember that before I got into Kpop I used to think Blackpink was a much older group than they actually are because of how their music sounds. I was really surprised to find out they only debuted in 2016 and not around 2012.

    @@SoSBxo Yeah... I actually quite like Lovesick Girls, it's one of my favourites from them... But it does sound very 2014.

    Thank you for your video, it hit on all the points it needed too, any real fan definitely knows and can see truth in everything the vid brought up no matter which side u personally prefer. I'd like to also add even after hearing and watching other peoples opinion I still have the same luv for blackpink and teddy. I see what yg is doing for blackpink the brand if it's been working the last 5 why change it I get it. As a fan man I wish they had the freedom other acts get and hope that one day we will get to see, I wanna see them get too write more and work with other producers which would bring different sounds good or bad. Thankful they get to do solo stuff I luv the premise that YG has done with them on that because otherwise u get the members of groups wanting to break up the group to do there own thing which by then is usually to late for that group to save or end up resentmenting or disliking each other ( example 5th Harmony and Girls Aloud) if they let camila do her thing there should be no reason why u have to leave or split . Kudos to the label for at least letting them do that and prasing each other as they do it. Thanks again for this video you have amazing insight that i was definitely needed to hear and watch as a fan cause my mind is have the same opions but is hard at times for fans like me to focus on cause my ADD or ADHD hinder me from getting the point across or going off on something off the subject. Ugh so thankfully there are fans like u out there
