It has no special meaning like really any other song off the album, but at least it sounds fantastic! Backseat Freestyle is one of Kendricks worst song because it sounds absolutely awful! The beat is ugly, and the rhyming is not up to par! It reminds me of Freestyle 4 on TLOP. Awful song on a great album.

@@igerw8519 ikr, it shouldve been for the beginning of the album because he had to borrow the van for 15 minutes, a good interlude to sherane. but it is so out of place for the end of the album when real should be the last song. idk if kendrick was trying to loop the album in a way (like how igor loops by the story and the last and first note), but said loop just makes compton feel out of place tone wise, and story wise.

Real was more than a song to critique if you didn’t listen to the words you wouldn’t get the message. The message was that as a member of the black community you should still value yourself as an individual and had a take on the masculine, feminine view and his own personal grasp on it. I just listened to that song before seeing this video and it hit more when I’m older than it did when I was a teenager hearing it for the first time. 💯 If you grew up remotely in the struggle or around gang culture you would definitely be able to feel somewhat where he was coming from but actually living a good bit of the narrative hits harder than listening to it. I can relate to his sentiment looking at the effect of todays music on the black community. If we had love for the one in the mirror we wouldn’t do half the things we do.

It has no special meaning like really any other song off the album, but at least it sounds fantastic! Backseat Freestyle is one of Kendricks worst song because it sounds absolutely awful! The beat is ugly, and the rhyming is not up to par! It reminds me of Freestyle 4 on TLOP. Awful song on a great album.

@@igerw8519 ikr, it shouldve been for the beginning of the album because he had to borrow the van for 15 minutes, a good interlude to sherane. but it is so out of place for the end of the album when real should be the last song. idk if kendrick was trying to loop the album in a way (like how igor loops by the story and the last and first note), but said loop just makes compton feel out of place tone wise, and story wise.

Backstreet freestyle… is so timeless… I listen to it again after all these years and its still fascinating. All the other tracks have lost their lush to me.
Real was more than a song to critique if you didn’t listen to the words you wouldn’t get the message. The message was that as a member of the black community you should still value yourself as an individual and had a take on the masculine, feminine view and his own personal grasp on it. I just listened to that song before seeing this video and it hit more when I’m older than it did when I was a teenager hearing it for the first time. 💯 If you grew up remotely in the struggle or around gang culture you would definitely be able to feel somewhat where he was coming from but actually living a good bit of the narrative hits harder than listening to it. I can relate to his sentiment looking at the effect of todays music on the black community. If we had love for the one in the mirror we wouldn’t do half the things we do.
