There is nobody who can create anything close that chemistry they used to have. Just leave it alone.

If there’s one thing that can be guaranteed of a Disney led x-files reboot, it’s that whatever happens, Disney will manage to make a flop and massive financial loss

X-Files is product of its time. It can not be rebooted today with different actors.

Seeing what Disney has done to everything else they have bought, no thank you.

Closest thing to X-F I think was Fringe. That show was amazing.

It was a good show despite JJs involvement. The constant internal rebooting was annoying but overall it was an enjoyable show. X Files getting a reboot just smacks of Disney desperation and creative bankruptcy.

Instead of a reboot, just make it a continuation. Mulder and Scully(and the rest of the old cast) are retired and a new duo(or group?) gets put in charge of the X-Files. The old cast can make cameo appearances from time to time, but the focus will be on the new ones. Maybe bring in a few of the original "monster of the week" cases where the new team consults M&S on how they handled it. The "pass the baton" approach would be better than trying to recast the characters themselves.

That's what a reboot is... it is a continuation of the original series. For example, George Lucas intended for Star Wars to only be 6 books and 6 movies. Disney bought it and rebooted it, giving us more movies.

That wouldn't make sense. Mulder is always rubbing against the grain, pissing off his employers. That's why they brought in Skully in the first place, because they wanted to get rid of Mulder. Skully was supposed to find something worth firing him. There's no way the people higher up than Skinner would ever let him be the director.

as long as the main characters have as much chemistry as the original Mulder and Scully, i think it'll do fine. still wont touch the original but would be worth watching. the casting is deff what will make and break the show.

Wait, what? X-Files reboot? Maybe instead of a reboot a follow-up or continuation with different protagonists (I know the original don't want to continue playing the character)

I loved this show but now we have the internet, phones, and so much technology that it wouldn't be the same.

I thought bringing in the characters played by Lauren Ambrose and Robbie Amell as the new agents at the FBI and Mulder and Scully being on the outside as assets ( like Deep Throat and X) could have worked but not for very long i suppose. I'm not sure a reboot is warranted.

Nah, if they brought in the other 2 to replace Mulder and Skully, then there would be no need for Mulder and Skully as assets, if anything, they would be a liability to the new agents.

The problem is the fact that it was ever discussed.

Trying to do X-Files with different actors would be as insane as trying to do Quantum Leap, Too Close For Comfort, MacGyver, Charmed, Doogie Howser, Night Court, Magnum PI or countless others without their original casts. And nobody would do that. Constantly.

Gillian confirmed something is happening and she would be up for returning in whatever capacity needed. Ryan Coogler isn't going to let his new pet project get cancelled.

30 year fan here: the only thing realistic to do would be to recast. Recasting will not work however because even a Terminator could not save the show during the brief recasting they tried to do before. It's why Mulder and Scully came back to finish the last few seasons. After witnessing Disney's RECENT efforts at shows and movies; I have ZERO faith that Disney could do it right. Disney needs hire creative people to create properties and stop being lazy.

Recast is fine, or simply find new name agents looking at paranormal cases. Quantum Leap reboot had new characters while mentioning the old and went 2 seasons. Hawaii 5-0 went 10 seasons in reboot. Magnum PI reboot is 5 or 6 seasons. They need to find really good actors and great writing to make it work with interpersonal character building like the old show. If the writing is not good, it will fail.

The problem is that it's Disney

Disney will ruin adult subject matter. This sounds like a project that will never happen. So they bought 20th Century Fox. Does that mean hundreds of movies i watch on my ridiculously overpriced NY premium cable will lose Broadcast tights on HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Starz, encore

I didn't really like it the first time I saw it but with multiple viewings I've enjoyed it more. It's still not nearly as good as the first movie which I love and think is really underrated.

The principal actors must be in their 60s, now.

Knowing Disney, theh will prob ad diversity and woke to the reboot, Mulder is prob gender neutral, Sculley is prob black and Skinner is prob a Asian female, the aliens needs to be better represented with 70 different genders, while ciggie smoking man need to promote no smoking

The previous x files didnt try to be funny, and could be very funny, the new x files tries to be funny, and was never ever funny. I hope they have serious characters.

There’s no way this show will make a good reboot. Disney has ruined so many of their properties and this one looks like it is next in the cue.
