In this video i get some long-standing things off my chest. I can't hide it for any longer. I'm scared to drive. Even more scared with it's raining and it's nighttime.

My favorite part about driving is the fact that I could be sitting at a stop light, listening to 'Ice Ice Baby' by popular musician Vanilla Ice, while enjoying an Icee the is 3/4 Dr Pepper and 1/4 cotton candy, and get absolutely smoked by a teenager who is watching a tik tok instead of paying attention to the icy roads.

This is extremely dangerous, if you find yourself doing this, turn the AC down all the way (or if it’s winter open the windows a crack). Once you get too cold enough close the windows and turn heat on normal. The discomfort from the cold prevents you from zoning out.

  • @aarondavis8943

    @aarondavis8943

    6 ай бұрын

Depending on the type of "zoning out", It's not necessarily as dangerous as you might think. In most cases it's more of a memory issue than an attention issue. You'll be stopping at all the red lights and watching the road, you just don't remember it because you're so used to driving. It's never a bad thing to be reminded to pay more attention to the road but I wouldn't freak out about this too much. It's a common phenomenon particularly among _experienced drivers,_ because driving has become second nature and muscle memory. Experience is the most important factor for safe driving.

As a car enthusiast who loves driving, I couldn’t agree more that people who don’t enjoy driving shouldn’t feel like it’s their only option. I wish America had more options for those people, so that they can travel without driving, and those of us that do enjoy it don’t have to deal with over crowded roads and less than confident drivers causing unsafe situations. Also drivers licenses in America are WAY too easy to obtain, and teach you nothing about proper road etiquette such as proper use of the passing lane, etc.

agreed. "I'm in too deep, no turning back now" is such a strong, ubiquitous feeling that even con-men and manipulators of all kinds use it. casinos, AAA and mobile game micro transactions, salesmen of all sorts want you to make that first bet/purchase/loss and feel like you have to go on, or like it's shameful to stop or turn back. it's a really blinding feeling. I remember how I got roped into taking on debt that I had no need for. halfway through I had the strongest feeling that I'm doing something dumb, but the pushy saleswoman made it so awkward to back out of the purchase! I paid it off eventually, but I still feel ashamed for letting her manipulate me with something so silly as awkwardness and a false feeling of guilt

Same for driving way under too. If your driving 20 tucked behind a blind corner in a 45, you're basically asking the next car that turns it to slam on their breaks. The rules of the road ought to be vibe based. As long as everyone is kind of doing the same thing in a predictable way, nobody dies. However, when I drive through Indianapolis, there are sections where everyone is going 10 over and I just flow with it.

They're putting themselves in way more danger than you. People who follow the rules are significantly less likely to get into an accident than those who don't. That's why there are insurance companies that will offer much cheaper than usual policies if the driver agrees to have their speed tracked by an app or other device. People who drive the speed limit are cheaper to insure than people who speed all the time because they get in less accidents and do less stupid stuff.

I think the process of merging onto expressways in general is insane. You have to speed way up to 70-80 mph and just pray that the people in the right lane aren’t feeling like assholes at that moment to either slow down/ move over to another lane to let you on. It’s completely people-dependent and it’s kinda scary when you think about it.

Lived in England for about three months without a car and it was amazing. I could just walk from my uni 10 minutes to a train station, hour ride to London Kings Cross, then I could reach basically the entire country from there. Explored Norwich, Eastbourne, Nottingham, Lincoln, York, London, Edinburgh, Cambridge, all without a car, and all without ever feeling limited by not having one. Visited a couple villages where my friends lived and needed to get a ride, but other than that I never needed one. Also walked around a ton every day, which felt great. Also flew to Stockholm and Amsterdam at one point and never needed a car in either place, was able to get a train from the airport and everything I needed was within walking distance of a train station

I could rant for hours on car culture and car infrastructure, but honestly it all pisses me off so much I'd rather not. I agree so hard with this video and the sentiment being conveyed. It's fucking crazy that what was once created as a luxury overpriced toy to move around a city became the norm for how people should transport and cities are designed to accomodate them. They are even becoming more of a several-ton steel cage death machines. It's nuts how little pushback there is from the vast mayority of people. People should be scared both for themselves and for others to drive around in one of these machines, yet having teenagers drive them is *encouraged.* Sick society.

As controlling and whatever as it may sound; and this opinion would make a lot of people really angry; I agree that the driving age should be raised or at least have more provisions and more enforcement of them. I was just having a convo the other day about how every single teenager ever including myself 5 years ago is the most shit driver ever. Their brains aren’t developed enough to have the impulse control and full knowledge of cause and effect. Every teen has sped triple the speed limit before just to gun it; every teen has driven with a dangerous amount of self distraction. A lot of teens are driving around high nowadays. And on top of that they think they’re cool or need to show off, and they just don’t care enough about the value of life yet. I think a lot of them also believe that nothing bad could happen to them. One roll over car accident at the age of 17 and now I’m 23 with a since perfect driving record and honestly a deep fear of driving/other drivers because it wasn’t even my fault in my car accident. Tldr teens are fucking dumb as fuck and shouldn’t operate death machines bc most adults can’t even do it right

Also my brother’s best friend who was also our next door neighbor growing up.. he was a passenger in a car with some “friends” (not friends at all and I’ll tell you why). They were all in college and the driver was the oldest. They were all a little drunk but the driver was the drunkest. I know he hated speeding and it made him nervous so I wonder a lot about how scared he must have been in his final moments when the driver decided he wanted to impress a girl, and straight gunned it to 110 mph on a residential. I’m sure my friend’s final moments in this vehicle he trusted getting inside were complete terror and then hopefully nothing at all to save him from the pain. They crashed into a tree and the car crumpled like a soda can. All 5 people in the car died, luckily on impact because then the car caught on fire and their bodies burned. His mother hadn’t been the same since and I think of him all the time. Rip Octavias, and fuck the freak that promised him a ride home as the DD and then killed him anyways.

I love driving, and was raised up north so I can handle snow and ice. Driving was my way to get out of a toxic house as a teen, BUT recently my work made me drive two states over at 7am after a snow/ice storm (before the salt trucks) in a van with shitty breaks and that shit felt like a 10 hour long panic attack. My father also had the common advice of "drive like everyone else doesn't know how to drive' and it's kept me alert enough to get my way out of several accidents. My tips for the road:

recently I went to Brussels with some family. We happened to be there on the ONE day of the entire year where cars were restricted so that people could walk around easier. that would have actually made it the best day to be in the city, but because my family already planned to leave by car before the restrictions were over, all my relatives decided to just leave early instead of… seeing a major city in another country. My immediate family still went and it sucked ass because my dad was being shitty about it. It turns out that we could have just parked outside the center and taken a tram in 10 minutes if we really didn’t want to deal with it lol

Driving is my biggest fear. I fucking hate it, and I wish I loved it like others seem to. I can't get over how...unsettling it feels to drive. It feels like...very not normal. Idk how to explain it. It's just fucking beyond dangerous. I already don't trust the majority of people around me...why tf should I trust those same people behind the wheel of a fast-moving metal death-machine?! - I should mention…if I were to be driving alone, without others/many others on the road or something…totally fine with that, honestly. Can even be relaxing and nice, in a way! So it’s not necessarily something I see as completely awful or anything, despite my fear of it. It’s much more complicated than that. Adding this in case others can relate and/or feel better about their own fears of driving, as it seems to be something almost no one talks about, even though there are many who share the same feelings about this.

The last two years I drove on the highway to get to my job as a Phillies security guard on a packed highway, and I’ve had quite a few experiences lol I guess trying to get to your job and leave your job at the same time as 45,000 people puts a lot of things into perspective.

I was told so many times that I looked like a stiff driver, but I was just doing the 10-2 hands on my wheel. There's a lot of unspoken agreements on the road that were never gone over in driving school.

There was a recent news story in my city where people were vandalizing speed cams in front of schools. They spray painted the glass to obscure the image. It's really gross that someone would do that especially when it's being used to protect kids in a school zone.

We weren’t allowed to leave work when we were one level away from it being illegal to drive. Once it was illegal to drive it was closing time and we drove home. We didn’t even have that many customers coming in.
