The weirdest thing I caught on Ring happened last year. It picks up this old woman coming to my door and huddling outside it, shifting around a lot but I can't see what she's doing. I assume she's trying to pick the lock or something but when I get to the door, I notice there's no noise coming from the lock. When I open the door, she's standing there with a lit matchstick looking startled and just books it hobbling away. I was confused till I noticed the four other matchsticks on the ground and the singed spot on my door... The strangest part is she was trying to light my door on fire during winter... while it was actively snowing outside.

If the victims here DID press charges, there's a good chance it'd be settled by the kids' parents covering the costs regardless. Talking to a lawyer in advance just makes the whole process more formal. Besides, they'd have to reach out the the authorities anyway in order to figure out who the kids were, no?

It was a crime when they ran from the scene, not everyone can handle the cost of repairing some damage to their car, that brings down it's value when attempting to trade in/sell in the future.

I wouldn't say those were his takes, one of the commenters implied the crash was an intentional crime rather than an accident, which seemed like the hang up there, and the second time was more of a "treat the disease not the symptoms" kinda thing

He didn't stop or turn while going way too fast on a residential street without wearing any protective gear and ended up raming into and tearing off the bumper of an expensive muscle car. Then they proceeded to laugh, take videos, and drive off without even a note saying sorry. The kid deserved to break some bones for doing that.

I don’t know local laws but for the ATV one... hit and run is a crime everywhere but in most states, riding an ATV down the street is illegal and in more liberal states, it’s illegal to ride one at all without a helmet. So it’s for certain a crime. How much of one depends on the state.

Yeah, the ATV accident is some significant damage to that car. While I do hope the kid is ok, he is still at fault and should be held accountable. The kid really shouldn’t have left the scene, and talked to the owner right then. The owners of the vehicle should approach the family for damages cost, but if they are refusing to pay then they should take it to a small claims court.

Doesn’t change that people in poverty tend to have more incentive to steal, which is why poverty is so highly correlated with crime. Although you could make the case that white collar crime is heavily underreported in some places- which skews correlation statistics.

glad someone said it. All that's gonna happen if he doesn't get taken to court is that he won't learn from his mistakes. And if he is a teen, chances are he wouldn't get in much trouble since it was an accident. But now that it's a hit and run, much worse charges. Most of these takes are generally really confusing to me, what the kid running straight into the car did wrong was obviously not to have an accident but(supposedly, what the hell do I know) running away from it without informing the person whose car he just wrecked. If I get contacted by some kid who had a dumb accident he could luckily at least walk away from but fucked up my car in the process, I'll try to be cool and work something out... But if someone does something like that and tries to shirk responsibility, I think they need to be reprimanded somehow. I feel like maybe Ian and I aged in different directions or something, idk

I mean I don't like the tone of how people are saying shit about dumb kids being dumb kids either, but at the same time I agree with your pov too, kids fucking shit up in the neighbourhood is both predictable but is also something that has to be curbed as they age/mature, and doing damage like that to a car can be pretty serious for a lot of people. Like yeah you gotta keep your cool and remember that its just a dumb kid, but there needs to be some resolution. With the bumper it looks like it could probably be put back on, so really a good 'punishment' in this case would just be the kid helping you fix it, so they have to give up some time for doing some stupid shit, and maybe they'll do their stupid shit in some place else where such outcomes don't occur next time.

Also just putting on a new bumper is hard when where it mounts/attaches to it going to be ruined. Plus they also hit the other vehicle. Try thinking of your vehicle getting smashed into then the person runs away. Bet you would absolutely want justice, that accident turned crime would 100% negatively effect your life.
