General Sir Arthur Currie cared about the Canadian Troops. They were the last to push through. He did recon, every soldier knew the objectives, unlike the British and French troops. As a result Canadians lost fewer amount than the others. We also didn't have 100 of thousands to spare. He is worth researching.

There’s also their latest tribute with Motörhead’s 1916. Very emotional and dealing with similar futility and loss of life in the Battle of the Somme. Fantastic official video.

I'm so happy that you chose to react to this one. It's a chilling song, and Joakims' voice is so filled with sorrow over the craziness of battle of Passchendaele. I can tell you that the history episode to this song really portrays the horrors of this battle. There are, to this day, still bodies unretrieved on the battlefield. The bodies of 42.000 from the battle were never found, lost in the muddy wasteland. Their names are commemorated on the Menin Gate in Ypres. Btw... you have now earned a new sub.

I'm loving your very astute Sabaton reactions. You're exactly the perfect fans of this band...you listen. You learn. You reflect. You handle the subject matter w proper respect. Thank you. I'm a USMC widow, and my late husband would have been a HUGE Sabaton fan! I sing for him...even in Swedish. The young man is impressively sharp and introspective! A glimmer of hope for your generation... please make our world better by teaching others, as you are here! Wait til you hear 1916!

I think the best thing that Sabaton does is put faces in the soldiers' faces. During history, we learn about the millions of casualties during wars but then move on. We don't really take the time to process this. Sabaton makes you realize that these soldiers were just like any other regular person. They had a job, relatives. They had dreams, hopes. They were a neighbor, a father, a son, a brother, an uncle, or a nephew. They had things they liked and disliked. Also, it puts you in their place. What would you think or how would you react if you had to be at the Somme or Passchendale?

This song is one that demonstrates that Sabaton does not glorify war, it portrays how destructive they are. I recommend that you listen to the song "1916", it is a cover of the song of the same name written by the late lead singer of the band Motorhead, is the last clip released by Sabaton. It is a tribute to all soldiers who have fought or are still fighting in wars, what it means to be a soldier.

I totally agree with your comments, to the point. Thanks for your reaction. There is a song Gallipoli in similar tone. No glory to be one only young men loss... And of course the epic Sabaton's song En Livstid I Krig - in Gothenburg with subtitles on similar theme.

And the most recent cover/tribute by Sabaton from Motörhead's song "1916" is also related to the life of a soldier in the war.

What is more tragic is those 6 miles of "won" ground, were lost, almost immediately, this battle, accomplished nothing but huge losses of life.

A very nice and thoughtful reaction to my favourite band for about 20 years by now... welcome to the rabbithole that is named Sabaton... I could suggest dozens or more favourite videos for reactions, but maybe let me brake it down to a mix of old and new... "Ghost Division" live in Woodstock, "Heart of Iron", "Winged Hussars", "Bismarck", official music video, "The Red Baron" either live from The Great Tour or animated history vid, and as the last one "No bullets fly", DEFINITELY as animated version.. keep on with the good work, greetings from Germany!

Another fun fact and sad too is that both sides would stop firing long enough for each side to gather wounded and sometimes helped each other out to retrieve either wounded comrade or foe.

This is the battle of Passchendaele this is where Canada first saw action in World War One. fun fact the Canadians were known as storm troopers of World War I. They were so efficient in killing Germans. They never took prisoners and they were told that they cannot kill wounded so instead they would make sure to kill them before they could surrender also, many of them did not care so the killed the wounded and many generals of the Canadian army Actually bragged about the ruthlessness of their soldiers. Also, the Geneva convention is highly put in place because of Canadian World War I soldiers in the world war one truce of Christmas of the second year when Canada first showed up they shot to Germans in the head when they were trying to show the truce and then threw over canned food. Eventually they threw over grenades which were already pulled within those canned food, and when the soldiers ran up to grab it, they would open fire whatever food they had grabbed, it would blow up and kill them.

so price of a mile was about the battle of Passchendaele AKA 3rd battle of Ypres. fought between 31st July and 10th October 1917. the battle took place on the Ypres salient in Belgium and involved 56 allied divisions (50 British and 6 French) and 73-80 German divisions. To me Passchendaele even more so even than the Some exemplifies the futility of WW1. the casualty estimates range from between 457,000 (240,000 allied and 217,000 German) to 888,614 (448,614 allied and 400,000 German). though 5-6 miles of ground was captured though i believe in the lead up to the German spring offensive more then this 5-6 miles was voluntarily relinquished in order to strengthen allied defensive lines

In France, there is still an area that is forbidden to enter. Only sappers can enter. According to downloadable calculations, the time needed to clear it is about 500-700 years. Unexploded ordnance is counted in the millions.

This is my second favorite song of Sabaton, after Christmas Truce. I can't believe we're not taught about Passchendale in the U.S. If WW1 can be summed up in once idea it'd be the waste of lives. What's worse is that the British lost those 6 miles in like a month after.

For me this song highlights the absolute stupidity of the Allied generals in WW1. Their tactics, or actually lack of them, caused millions of casualties while they stayed safe behind the lines, unconcerned except for their personal glory. The only Allied commander who deserves praise is King Albert of Belgium, who fought on the lines with his men. And sadly, they learned nothing leading to the debacle at the beginning of WW2. Sabaton covers both these points in "Race to the Sea" and "Ghost Division." Great reaction, keep rocking Sabaton. BTW, Sabaton just finished a US tour. I was fortunate to see them in Nashville. Epica opened and both bands were awesome. I would expect them back in 2024 if they follow their usual pattern.
