LYRICS
Year one
Was lots of fun
But nothing lasts forever in my dreams
And two
I followed you
Because you knew the way or so it seemed
And three
I still believed
That we would be becoming destiny
And four
I wanted more
But you were moving on to better things
At twenty-five
And still alive
Much longer than expected for a man
At twenty-five
All hope has died
And the glass of my intentions turns to sand
And shatters in my hand
Five to six
A lie, a kiss
The secrets that were served we’d never say
Skip to eight
We called to fate
To live, to let us die another day
And nine
I saw the signs
Reflected in the barrel of a gun
Ten
We’re here again
Those who loved me burned up in the sun
At twenty-five
And still alive
Much longer than expected for a man
At twenty-five
All hope has died
And the glass of my intentions turns to sand
And shatters in my hand
From eleven, twelve I held the future in my grasp
And all through my teens I screamed I may not live much past
Twenty-one two three four
Twenty-one two three four
Twenty-one two three four
One two three four
At twenty-five
And still alive
Much longer than expected for a man
At twenty-five
All hope has died
And the glass of my intentions
The glass of my intentions
The glass of my intentions
Turns to sand
And shatters in my hand

Rock genre is so hurt because of magazines that call "rock" to anything and anyone when it’s not or when these singers barely play the guitar and barely make pop rock songs and because of people who think rock is dead and stay in their bubble being skeptical of new rock artists and bands. I really like in the song when she sings "And shatters in my, hand." The way she build up that intensity you want her to belt out 'hand' in a unbelievable amount of power that you've been led up to, you're ready for it. However when she stops and just slides off with a quiet subtle 'hand' I feel this drop inside like I wasn't ready for that and this thought of no! Like I needed to hear that crescendo but it doesn't come. I think this is so perfect for the song, as much as I wanted to hear that belt come out, to just drop it away like that leaves you with a hole of wanting. Wanting something that won't happen. It's just a great song and perfectly constructed.

@@Syrilian That can easily have more to do with decisions production makes, than the actual track, yes? For a stripped version, you would expect a somewhat more... streamlined sound. Which is exactly what this is. If you start with a recording with a ton of reverb, it's going to limit your ability to mold it how you want, so throwing it on later, for the album version, makes sense. Whether it's the specific version that's on the album, sans bells and whistles or not, depends more on her phrasing than reverb, which can be so manipulated. Juat saying.

I never really realized until today how much listening to The Pretty Reckless shaped my life as a teen and still now. I remember my dad showing me Heaven Knows when the music video first came out on YT, like 6 years ago, how I became hooked on pretty much every song they put out after that. They became my favorite band as a teen, and still are to this day. Hard to find bands sometimes these days that you can relate to even after I've left my extra angsty teenage times, but The Pretty Reckless definitely stood the test of times for me.

At each new song release Taylor is showing her exceptional talent, it is difficult to find words to describe the level of her performances. If someone would have told me when she was an actress that she would become a legend of rock, I would have laugh and here she is. I am bluffed. Since the 80's most of the voices are totally sampled and optimised note by note, Taylor doesn't need these manipulations, she is a real singer. She eclipses a bit the rest of her band by her look, her charisma and her talent, nevertheless the guys behind the instruments who have the wisdom to remain discreet are also excellent. Risking to shock people from Rolling Stone magazine and other supposed specialists of rock'n roll, the Pretty Reckless are probably already at the level of monsters like the Stones, Led Zeppelin, etc. maybe even better. The Pretty Reckless, what a pleasant surprise in this world society full of crap. Thanks for what your are doing guys. And please come back to the Montreux Jazz Festival, I want to see you live 😉.
