The president who vowed not to overstay - BBC Africa

“The president cannot extend his term of office, not even by one day”.
These were the words of Senegal's president, Macky Sall before his election in 2012, but has he gone back on his word?
Senegal is in political turmoil since its leader postponed the February 2024 elections, with critics saying the move is just another way for Mr Sall to cling onto power.

Power is addictive. Ask Museveni of Uganda what he said upon taking power in 1986. He said Africa's problem was leaders who overstayed in power. Who's still clinging on to power up to today?

The Afro mother & father must awaken. The Afro mother must gently guide her children away from all distractions that falsely fool the desire of the human. The Afro women must leave many hairstyles behind and focus her attention on creating a better future for our planet. We are all here together 🌺🌍.

Two reasons: 1. The presidents have no problem, its Europe, America and Asia that make deals with them and they are obliged to stay in power to fulfil the contracts. There is no transparency in their deals otherwise Africans/citizens would have oposed in advance before they commit to them. 2. Presidency is a very sweet position to the presidents and their families, once you have your relatives in a health and safe place you have to maintain it. African governements have not put in place or assured security and retirement to presidents and their families, like it is in Europe and America.
