That's one thing I wish they would have explained more, the history behind the mystic urRu and the Skeksis. Maybe they are waiting for season 2? They eluded to it when the archer mystic urRu died and took The Hunter with him, but there were two Skeksis deaths that we didn't see their urRu counterparts die. It plays a really big part in the movie Even in the movie (SPOILER) when the scientist dies his duel mystic urRu burst into flame. Also the Skeksis Emperor death his urRu counterpart dies.

@@mickeye6428 It's a common mistake, but the General in this show is SkekVar. The general in the movie is SkekUng. And is mentioned to be away from the castle along with a few other absent skeksis in episode 9.

Believe in Lisa Henson. She will bring the rest of Thra’s story to us, just as her father would have wanted.

I have a feeling they will introduce more Skeksis in season 2. The General in the movie isn't in this show....and he is the only one that hates Chamberlain's whimper, also got him banished and got all the Skeksis to rip all his clothes off in the movie. So yeah there will be a very mean skeksis in the future for sure, Chamberlain killing this general will backfire!

The Mystics are accomplices in my opinion. For all their touting of peace and wisdom, the Mystics could have single-handedly ended Skeksis rule. All the deaths and destruction the Skeksis inflicted upon Thra could have been avoided if the Mystics had it within themselves to end themselves. But they too were afraid of death and had their own selfish desires, and frankly were just as bad as the Skeksis.

@@explorer47422 Exactly, just because the Mysitcs are the light to the Skeksis dark, doesn't necessarily mean they're good. Most Mystics are apathetic, content to let the cycle play out no matter how much damage it does to Thra. And even the Skeksis weren't necessarily bad after the split happened, but time and the fear of death took over. UrGoh and SkekGra demonstrate what the Mystics and Skeksis should have been even in their separated states.

The Emperor needed a second to process everything that just happened. 1. He recently lost two of his three strongest warriors. 2. A gelfling just ate his ace in the hole. 3. Said gelfling shot back with a more powerful version of his ace.

This scene killed me omg poor Deet was so gentle and so pure. She gets completely destroyed at the end of this it broke me into peices to see that. While everyone was celebrating Rian was the only one to run after her. Heartbreaking.

I love how when Skeksil tells the Emperor to run, Skekso immediately considers him his "most trusted advisor" despite having dunked on him the entire series. The Emperor needed an excuse to run away, and Chamberlin handed it to him knowing Skekso would use his "trust" of Skeksil as his justification for fleeing even after the other Skeksis had fled thus giving Chamerblin his position back in exchange for saving face.

Deet is an amazing Gelfling. She built Hupp up and encouraged the lad. Treated him as an equal. We can actually learn from this puppet character.

What would really be disturbing is if they return her to Thra after her self-sacrifice, only to witness her return on a stormy night like a revenant that is wholly consumed and possessed by the Darkening. Imagine her friends seeing her again as a terrifying, shambling, zombiefied creature that speaks in a distorted voice and tells them, "YoU...shOulD... hAve...BUUUURNNED MEEE!" It's "THE WALKING DEET"! Okay. I'll shut up now. I don't know why I'm like this.

I think after Deet’s display with the Darkening, the Emperor’s seriously gonna have a feared yet fixated fascination with her in season 2

I think the cinematography should be given some awards or something for this series! When the ill-looking girls Skeksis's head exploded, it had the shaky camera movement that reminds me of how some gory live-action movies are portrayed.

Aaron Dye but she only destroyed one of the Skeksis, not all of them.

1:52, oh hell no! 1:54, AGH! 2:01, *"IT GOT IN MY MOUTH!"* Deet, That was AWESOME!

I do like 0:57 all of the Skeksis are celebrating but SkekSo who is really confused and probably alarmed.

Poor deet sacrificed herself for her friends and the world. I was happy at least someone went after her when she snuck away 😞

The sad fact is this was probably the one greatest chance the Gelfling's had to survive. They had the Skeksis surrounded and outnumbered. Three Skeksis were killed one way or another. If they had pressed the attack the Gelfling could have killed the rest then and there. But unfortunately they let the Skeksis retreat back to the castle, where the scientist was waiting with the first Garthim. It wont be long before the tide of battle now turns back against the Gelfling's again :(

But if they took that moment to kill off all of the Skeksis right there....then there would also be no more Uru. They are all linked as one, remember? When one dies, so does it's counterpart.

@@TheMurlocKeeper True. And that's an unfortunate side effect of killing the Skeksis. But I would argue the Gelfling had more right to survive that the Uru.

Interestingly, with the events that unfolded in the Stone in the Wood, there are now exactly 10 Mystics living in the valley now (the main 10 from the film). From what I could get, 4 left the Valley (urGoh, urVa, urLii and urSan), leaving 12 behind (the Main 10, plus urSen and urMa). urGoh was banished, urVa left been a hermit by nature, urLii moved to the caves of Grot (he has been introduced in one of the Comics now helping a young Ordon) and urSan decided to swim the waters ways of Thra.

Remember the last thing the Sanctuary Tree said to Deet? "I give you the last of my power. Be it blessing or curse, I cannot say..."

It was a blessing, but for her, it looks like a curse since she is being corrupted

This is part of why Deet's my favorite character. Who else can say they blew up a Skeksis? I guess those oozing pustules were just foreshadowing something much messier.

Deet is a cute Gelfling for sure. But not when she was defending her friends. She became scary. Maybe the Darkening destroyed the Collector because it sensed some big weakness in him/her. With those puscles on the nose, he was getting sick a lot with colds/sinus infections.

It was so heart breaking to watch the most nicest and gentle turn to the most dangerous 😢. This was Deet falling from grace. Can't wait for season 2. Deet is my favorite character from this series, it hurt so much to see her change due to The Darkening.

I have to say, this has got to be the best adaptation of The Dark Phoenix Saga I've seen thus far.

If you watch at 0.25x, and pause at just the right moment, you can see two halfs of Skeklach's beak flying off after they detonate. Damn.

This is fully sick. This is how it's done Hollywood. Cgi with practical effects

True but not to this scale. I think The Dark Crystal is a better example how well cgi and practical effects can work together and in Hollywood the majority of movies nowadays are shot with green screen and cgi.

It's a shame that we know how the series gonna end.

Haven't you seen the 1982 The dark crystal movie? The narrator has sad the Skeksis have killed the gelflings, and only two remain, Jen the main character and Kira his love. In other words, when the series will end, the Skeksis will win the war unfotrunatelly :(

It has to be the same universe, because Deet saw in her visions parts of the original movie.

It makes me wonder if Deet made it worse for herself when she used the Darkening to lash out.

One thing I love that I haven't heard mentioned is the shaky camera work. It adds such chaos, violence, and intensity in these brilliant parts of the show.

DEET: eliminates mosquitoes, ticks, and skeksies.

I love deet she doesn’t deserve the darkening!!!

It’s sad to watch but I really like that they corrupted Deet, it makes for an interesting plot line

And people would say to me while watching this "Deet is now a character that could defeat Thanos." ...Don't start that meme again.. Just don't.

This was a pretty good show. Can't wait for season 2

One of the saddest realizations I had about this series not getting a season 2 is that Hup has no idea what happened to Deet

CHAMBERLAIN didn't think twice before getting his spot back

I forget that they're actually puppets sometimes

0:34 First Deet absorbs the Darkening like how Yoda absorbed force lightning. Then she returned it like he did.

Okay but props to the puppet engineers and builders for making a separate skull and head mold just for that shot where deet’s mouth opens really wide, that shocked me when i saw it, and hats off to the editors for making that transition so seamless

In the book Bestiary of the Dark Crystal, it is stated that urSen the Monk, skekLach's counterpart, left the valley to live out the rest of his days in a cave in the outskirts of it, after having seeing (according to urSol the Chanter) a vision of his death.
