Logistics is what I train, teach, train, and mentor people on. It is a big part of my life. Anyone who is not in logistics needs to take a look into it as a career. It is an amazing industry that can change your life.

People are used to using logistics for make to grow a company, to the product crosses borders or make known something from my country etc; Sometimes we ignore that logistics is to connect us, for communication between society, nations, between the world. The COVID-19 is an example, because medicines, equipment and even people are sent. However, everything has advantages and disadvantages; a disadvantage is that the human being stays at home because they receives everything at the door, but this action also reduces time, companies innovate their services, and in the case of the COVID-19, the sales aren't longer face-to-face. On the other hand, I had no idea of ​​the discrimination a person could experience when is buying something, but now I will apply it and change my conception of what logistics is.

Connecting your vocational purpose to your personal experience is critical in gaining a renewed sense of respect for what you do and what niche your work fulfills in society . Tying logistics and supply chain management to the dignity that anonymity brought to the African American was brilliant. Proud to call Dr. Esper a friend, colleague and now a thought leader in this industry!!

I've watched a ton of TED Talks through my undergrad and graduate years, this was by far the best! Thank you for this, I certainly learned a ton and have a new respect for logistics.

Been in logistics for 20 years. All modes. Ground, ocean, air, intermodal etc. Have loved every second of it.

@@souncivilized8577 Do it. You'll never look back or question your decision buddy. It's pretty much the only industry that will never be effected by external issues. Even when we get to autonomy with trucks, commerce will always have to get from a to b. It is by far, the most sustainable profession to be in. Do it .

Great talk. I run a cabinet shop in Toronto and do mostly kitchen renovations. People in the home renovation industry don't think enough about logistics. Good logistics makes the difference between a home renovation being an exiting adventure for the client or soul destroying financial disaster. I read a book on spray painting a few years back, and the author said the efficiency of your paint operation will not depend on how fast you can spray but how quickly you can move things in and out of your paint booth. This applies to just about everything in construction.

As one who was bitten by the supply chain management bug 12 years ago as an MBA student, this was a damn-good talk.

I loved this video. Our purpose is so key and seeing how logistics can fit into the society and evoke feelings of dignity was a perspective shift. This really makes you want to dive deep into what else we do and what it can impact. I work in logistics and what I say that I do is deliver memories to the dinner table. Our company is in poultry and we are the hens on your table at Christmas or the chicken on your pizza or in your chicken salad. Delivering memories connects much more than if I said I ship chicken from A to B.

Blitz War I wish I knew a little more of your background because any answer I give will really be superficial. Is a degree in logistics and supply worth it? I would need to know where you possibly see yourself using it. That degree would give you a better understanding and allow you to be instantly more valuable to a company, but no... you don’t have to get a degree in this industry to play a key part in it. Depending on what your focus would be during the time of your studies, would really direct what you can do with it. It would be something incredibly versatile because in every industry there are aspects of logistics and supply chain. The last question you lose is interesting, and makes me want to know why you asked it. Without knowing that reason, this is potentially, depending on level and sector, one of the most demanding and exhausting fields you could choose. This is truly a 24/7 industry.

Blitz War knowing that you just graduated, congratulations by the way, gives me context for this next answer. I would say don’t be so concerned about the question of what to major in. There is nothing wrong with coming into college with no clue or even half a clue like you have. Since you feel at this time, Logistics and supply chain may be a good choice, continue stepping in that direction. Take a couple classes but know that even after your freshman year is done, you can change to another major or focus and it wouldn’t have been a waste of your time. Since you don’t have much work experience, this is also the best time for you to get it; there are plenty of companies that would hire interns and people part time, even with your lack of experience. Learn and try as much as you can. Reach out to the companies in your area and let them know that your are interested to learn the industry. You are correct in hearing that this degree is flexible and that it can lead to other industries and other focuses. This degree would give you a nice background that could take you all over the world. It just depends on how you want to actually apply it. Knowing that takes time and many more conversations but just take a step in one direction and see where that path takes you. You are also correct in that this industry can take a negative toll on your personal life, but so can every other job in any industry that you can name. The one difference is that depending on what position you take, it can be a 24/7 type of job. There are great rewards that can come from that but it is all about the company you align yourself with and the boundaries you put in place. I’m sure you don’t mind hard work, but it also takes you realizing that you are not entitled to anything, especially in this industry, and it takes time to get to a place where you have more freedom and autonomy to do what you want. In getting to that place; you will have to make sacrifices, but remember, you don’t want to make it to the pinnacle of any career and look around to see no one else with you. Get out there and take a step, see where it leads. Make sure you have some older and more seasoned folks in your life to ask the tough questions and make sure you are sticking to the boundaries you put in place. Oh and welcome to the club of those of us who stumbled into what is a great industry. Remember one last thing if you continue down this rabbit whole, as big as this industry is, it’s actually very small. You will start to realize as time goes on that you are more connected than you think and that everyone seems to know all the folks you know as well. Your personal reputation matters in a very big way.

Wow a very good presentation in my opinion. A lot of the people I know who work in logistics or supply chain management don't really know how important their work is! Logistics has been a very important factor in our history. In this day and age anyway.

👎He isn't really speaking about logistics, but about anonimity that courier delivery provides. Like, when you don't need to leave your home to get to supermarket, you can be more yourself. And not wear "sunday clothes". But the downside of it is that you hiss on sunlight and wear the same trousers for whole week. Anonimity ≠ dignity. Logistics ≠ dignity.

Camille TV, couldn’t agree more. You need to tie your personal to your vocational. It brings that greater sense of purpose that Dr. Esper talked about. I NEVER thought of logistics in this sense before but it makes absolute sense. It’s amazing to think that what we do can provide value in unseen and unsung ways.
