The Power of Intellectual Humility | Farah Nasser | TEDxDonMills

What happens in a world where everyone thinks they know better? In a world where we lack intellectual humility? I want challenge you to channel your internal journalist when you come face to face with someone who you may see as the other and who likely sees you as the other. Thinking like a journalist might help us unravel our own bias. Farah is an award-winning journalist and anchor on Global News. She has been covering relevant and significant stories for nearly two decades and now brings a personal yet widely relatable story to the TEDxDonMills stage. Farah will challenge us to think differently through the lens of pluralism and the power of gaining knowledge about others. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Great talk! "We are much more separated by a clash of our own ignorance".... in the opposite, humility gets us to love...

this talk misses a crucial point. if your colleague is the only white male with non leftist views in your workplace, then by default, he IS the minority within your immediate environment. i would assume Canadians hold to somewhat liberal/left views, therefore that makes liberals/leftists the majority, unfortunately.

Sorry but that's not exactly correct. Be someone who is in the minority and mixed with white like me and you''d understand they''re just using microaggression. I look white and am native and understand white privileged furthermore I''m not attacked for being white or threatened by it however I'm attacked for being native and people don't want me to be seen as such. Meanwhile my Cree friend gets carted from stores for stealing because of his appearance not because he did which he didn't. I was buying bus tickets for university and he was a construction worker who made a decent wage. I was carted for his skin color. I however think kindness and humble are different. Kindness is like doing something nice or being understanding and empathetic which buy psychology terms means caring. Apathetic being uncaring. It's because your being real where as humble pretends to be kind and and honestly that can be unkind altogether and even be ignorance because you only want to feel you did something nice not because you cared and wanted to be understanding. On the empathy and sympathy are that way too. Empathy is being caring but sympathy is showing it and kind of is fake too. Honestly it''d be nice if we broke away from faking and just being caring. Also it doesn't matter if a person is a right winged thinker. Right is right wrong is wrong. Though people modernly think exceptional morality is okay when it really isn't. Why things remain bad or get worse because it'''s seen as okay. Quite like microaggression which may seem like a norm but is slighting or attacking and generally does a lot of harm to what people consider "normal" and "okay" to do or say. Examples lead to false inncrimination due to skin color like my friend. Kindness is real. Humbleness is faking it. Empathy = kindness and sympathy = Humbleness.
