I wish I lived somewhere where people get together and get down to modular music. Sad story - I've been trying to get my friend to buy a proper synth..so we go to guitar center...ya...the only three synths are akai whatever, korg microkorg, and Korg minilogue...he's a classically trained pianist with a $2000 Yamaha with loads of presets...so obviously he has a habit of changing presets instead of writing cool licks to my funky break beats. I try and try to explain to him the greatness of raw analog and on the fly tweaking and sound design and how subtle knob turns can change dynamic and drive of a song.....he still picks the microkorg not because of the deep digital sound design you can accomplish with a little manual flipping but because he loves all the presets.....I died inside Sorry..I have no one else to talk to Thanks

For more patterns in a small space try the Antimatter Launch Codes. It's so good for just firing out any pattern thats in your head and it will quantise it and loop it automatically, plus you can save them afterwards. Simon from London Modular recommended one to me and I am totally in love with it

Brand new to modular, but I thought I'd mention the MakeNoise Tempi. I'm having a helluva lot of fun with it and would probably pair very well with that Basimilus.. 6 gate outputs.. clock division and multiplication programmable on the fly, mute/unmute, similar buttons like on the circadian.. 10 hp.

One potential option for signal routing might be to look at the Erica Synths pico switch. It's just below £30, 3hp, passive and has 3 ins to 1 out (or vice versa), so a couple of them would only use 6hp and each would give 3 selectable sources / destinations :-). May be worth checking out rather than splitting the switched multiple!

The Basimilus Iterites Alter seems like I was planning to do with a Achemie's Taiko, meaning to have a percussion voice that can also work as a very small synth voice too. Some great ideas here, MylarMelodies, as ever. I've got a rig for similar purposes, so I can basically record all my stuff in one live take and then unpatch. The way you use pressure points for the melody here is cool - I've tried it out with two gate patterns from the Numeric Repetitor, one driving envelopes and the other the PP. I use the DC1 drumcomputer for percussion patterns(which is a bit slept on for what it does), with the QuBit Mixology at the end of the chain - this works pretty well. BIA looks great, I've mocked up a shoddy copy using noise outputs from shapeshifter and a Bastl Skis. Keep 'em coming.

Totally agree with your Akemie's Taiko/BIA comparison. Also: you should maybe have a look at the Knight's Gallop from Shakmat if you're wanting to conserve some space. It only outputs two triggers, but they interact with each other in ways that would probably appeal to you. Plus it's only 8 hp and £93.20 (DIY kit from Thonk).

Nice Work as always Alex! I have an idea for your Switched mult, If you have any spare switches, or better yet, if you have a DIP switch handy, you could wire some of the connections at the back of the mult so you can easily configure which jacks are connected/normalled, that way you could single out the first jack as a mute or whatever you like. Modular!

It's one of the coolest modules I've seen and there are criminally few videos on it! You mentioned that in order to really make it flourish and expand, you'd need a ton of modulation. So could you pair this up with say Erica Synths Black Octasource and unlocks it's true potential?

defo indeed, the original BI can be pretty frustrating without one & I often employ one (or two). Interestingly, the original BI might be especially suited to this technique - it's a bit shite for normal CVs ergonomics-wise as the knobs are attenuators when something is patched in (thus losing whatever you dialed in), but when feeding gates might be pretty rad? Can't wait to try it. I just got a Varigate 8+ with the hopes of moving towards playing live, very much in the same philosophy as what you're proposing here; so big thanks for these vids, super insightful :)

I have both. Very similar, but different. The MI is definitely noisier. I use the BIA primarily for kicks, the MI is my primary bass sound. What is awesome is that I can slowly morph the MI into a dirty kick and use the BIA as the bass, lol.

Just plug the three outputs directly to the gate/trigger input of drum modules, or the trigger input to envelope generators
