    It honestly fascinates me the conditions some animals live in naturally in the wild. The fact that some animals can consider an environment like this with constant rapid moving water and debris always being swept up home sweet home is mind boggling.

    Hostile environments are ideal as they are themselves a defense mechanism. What's interesting is how that evolution occurs in the first place to adapt to that harsh scenario. Probably started with far weaker streams and over time was able to push into more extreme areas.

    So there are plecos that live in those kind of conditions? I always thought they were found in moderate to slow-moving waterways, oxbow lakes, ponds, etc., often with a lot of tannins and organic matter… I always thought most of the Asian loaches, garras, gobies, etc. preferred high flow, high oxygenation and relatively clear water.

    Many do live in slower moving waterways but there are also many species that live in the rapids of rivers such as those of the rio xingu clinging to the bedrock and hiding in the cracks of boulders.

    I used to keep trout in a 125 gallon fish tank I had to get like a $3,000 set of current pumps meant for giant reef tanks in order to get the flow requirements that I needed to keep those fish from sitting on the bottom of the tank all day.

    I would recommend some hill stream loaches I don’t have one myself but they would seem like a good addition to this tank
