Love this series, and Christine Lagarde is so iconic in her style and so happy you highlighted her ---these iconic fashion subjects are oftentimes not talked about, like Audrey Hepburn or Jacqueline Kennedy---also, can you do a deep dive video on Caroline Herrera--another classic fashion icon. You do a fantastic job on these videos!

Such a great suggestion! Would love to do a video on her!
I've watched Christine Lagarde since she hit the world stage as head of the IMF, fascinated by a stateswoman who unabashedly embraced style and luxury as key elements for displaying her power. She's unique in this respect. So glad to see you focusing on her and thank you for the phenomenal profile! Awesome channel!

I really enjoyed this essay; learnt something new about the marriage of fashion and power on a global political stage. I hope you can make more essays that focus on the clothing and style of other women like Indra Nooyi, Hilary Clinton, Sheryl Sandberg, Amal Clooney etc. I would love to hear your perspective on women like these and what they project with their choices in clothing.

Ohh yes great recommendations! Thank you so much for watching Ahira💕
Great video, Mary! This conversation about the intersection of power and femininity is reminiscent of the videos you did on Phoebe Philo’s first two shows at Celine before she delved more man-repelling in the silhouettes she tried: the first two shows had strong tailoring and precise details in muted colors and beautiful fabrics. I remembered thinking how strong and powerful, yet sexy the models looked in these clothes. I came to the conclusion that it probably is due in large part to the tailoring and construction of the garments: while tailoring is often referred to as a more masculine aspect of dressing, I find that it’s empowering to see the female body showcased in well structured clothing that reveals a woman’s shape without having to reveal very much, if any, skin. I think there’s also an air of confidence that well-fitted clothes convey as you are putting yourself and your body forward instead of hiding behind fabric-something you touched on with CL. I think that confidence is sexy in its own right. I think that’s something women have lost in the last decade of dressing as oversized and baggy styles have continued to grow in popularity. It seems as though women are giving the option of hiding behind many oversized layers or exhibiting your body through cutouts, crop tops, underwear-as-pants, naked dressing, etc. with very little in between. I hope there will be a resurgence in clothing made for women, to fit their lifestyles and bodies. I would be interested in any more videos you are interested in making on this topic! Please, teach me how to dress more powerfully 😅❤

I loved reading your comment and I think a lot of women feel this. The desire to have well-fitted, empowering clothing is not emphasized enough by these major design houses. I find the best way around this is to look at brands that focus on tailoring for women. While they may not be as hyped on runways, I always like to see what they come out with. While I don't know if I can teach, I still feel I'm figuring this out for myself😅 I have found I like Italian tailoring recently. I love Max Mara (and they have diffusion lines that can be found in the sales). I have also been curious into looking into brands like Giuluva Heritage, Blaze Milano, Tagliatore and I am liking the new Ferragamo. But I know exactly your frustration with it seems like fashion is either oversized or underwear as clothes and there is nothing in-between. Thank you so much for watching❤
I never knew about her style, very classy

Ooof, brilliant video with great research. I love how you approach fashion from a wide lens and zoom in on key pieces that are really at the core of a person’s style or of an era even. I didn’t know Christine but now I’m very intrigued and found her style extremely refined and sophisticated, yet easy. I think it suits her lifestyle and (I mean this in the best way possible) her age. Although that shouldn’t limit anyone from wearing what they want, there is elegance in adhering to some of these “rules.” Really, it’s her intelligence and confidence that make her look so impeccable though.

Yes agreed, so much of her style is her personality and what she brings to these pieces. Thank you so much for watching💗

Love love this - no your context on the IMF is not boring - your followers are aware or need to be of the importance of economic and global context given they most probably have their own careers. Fashion is an important tool to make a statement for different settings as you correctly pointed out. For example when I have an important meeting dominated by males sometimes I will tone down sometimes I wear red lipstick to affirm my femininity in that setting😊

Yes! Thank you so much for brining that up, the IMF has a huge impact on the economy and global trade. And fashion is definitely a statement and can even make you feel more powerful. Appreciate you for watching🙌
The Bolide by Hermes is an underrated bag. She, CBK and of course Jane Birkin are the only ladies i like in Hermes bags, so far.
Excellent presentation, thank you.

Loved this video, Mary!! I haven’t kept up with finance since I quit the industry a few years ago, so I’m not well versed anymore with what is happening with the ECB, IMF, and the like. I know we should be skeptical of all politicians and those who seek power, especially those who reside in non-elected positions and organizations and are not held accountable by the general public. That being said, there is a type of visceral feeling one gets in seeing Christine in a photo-op surrounded completely by men: a true girl-boss moment of feminism, hopefully without all of the exploitation that term normally implies. I’ve always loved seeing her style on the global stage-definitely powerful in a chic and elegant but never shying away from femininity. I see Amal Clooney does much of the same but with a different, younger style.
I love how you always mention Carolyn! I was listening to Night Fever podcast today and listened to Patricia Field talk about an experience she had when Carolyn went into her store with JFK Jr. 😅

Yes, many argue it is systematically skewed towards benefiting the developed over developing countries. But despite this, I too can't help but appreciate the confidence she exudes through her style. And yes Amal Clooney has a similar sort of elegance, beauty and power about how she dresses. Thank you so much for watching❤
