I literally couldn't relate to this video more. After graduating college, I even specifically remember saying to a friend of mine, "there has to be more than this." All I'll say is there's absolutely no shame in getting a therapist. I think one of the best things we can do for ourselves is get the help we need, not only for us and our mental state, but also for those in our lives, so we can be the best version of ourselves for them too 😌🙏

No one talks about this. It's instilled upon you that you have to go to college to get a job, so you go, then you can't get a job bc it's so competitive or you don't have experience. It's frustrating so I appreciate you talking about this. I finally got a job after college and got laid off a couple weeks ago due to budget cuts so now I'm back on the job hunt. Anyways...I love your channel so much and look forward to your videos every week! 💓

I think one thing to remember about not living with your parents is…. You can always change that. I used to live an hour from my folks and I’d spent one weekend a month with them, and I can’t tell you how much I miss that now I live 700+ miles away. My parents live only a mile from my grandmother too, and my great gran and grandmother lived together for most of their adulthood. Don’t let anyone tell you what the right way to be an adult is, just like you shouldn’t let people’s judgments and comments sway you from pursuing other work opportunities or changing the direction of your channel, etc. just find what works for you and keep pursuing what brings you joy ❤

I get the job thing... in a youtuber's shoes I'd consider 2 things: For one, it's good to have experience in the corporate world, it'll teach you lessons that you wouldn't learn only being self-employed. Second, youtube is a volatile job so it makes sense to look for other incomes as well... Good luck Hannah ☘️

The video title is so accurate. As a recent post-grad myself, I relate to this so much. Even with a recent college degree, I cannot find work in the tech industry. So I'm now in a position where I have to take classes at a community college to earn additional certifications. P.S. You are not alone.

this episode had so many layers and i can't express how appreciative i am that you included all of those. for starters hannah, i am so proud of you. i recently went on a little binge of your channel, actually i do this every weekend but i digress, and the amount of growth you have made this year is truly remarkable. hearing you talk about the group of friends you made thus far fills my heart up with joy, truly no one deserves to be surrounded by genuine people more then you. i understand talking about your career is a uncomfortable topic to talk about, and i want you to know that your feelings are absolutely valid!! i actually found it SO interesting hearing you talking about your job and love for marketing. possibly consider other outlets to express more of your thoughts, like a podcast or blog?? the content you already produce is FANTASTIC and i am so excited for future endeavors!! the topic on the feeling of going home, i resonated deeply and agree that the feeling of being a "guest" at the home we grew up in is not talked about enough. something that has helped me going home as a junior in undergrad, has been focusing on the good memories that happen at home, even the littlest things. i know it can be harder then it seems at times, but always know that the definition of home can have many different meanings!! i love you so much & please give yourself some grace this week🤍xo

I’m so glad that you are able to see all the nuances of the post-grad life and can process it as you experience it. My post-grad days (also in NYC) were during a decade where the smooth transition was expected, and struggling was seen as weakness or even failure. Only years later was I able to see what you are already seeing. You are navigating it brilliantly, my young friend! 🤩

Currently 8 months post grad and I'm STRUGGLING im so overwhelmed with options of where life could go, finding full-time jobs/careers is sooo hard, and since everyone my age are in such different places in their lives it's so easy but damaging to compare where you are to them - me writing this after pulling an all nighter because I just spent 12 straight hours trying to figure out wtf I want to do next with my life

I'm also 23 and I relate to everything you said SO bad!!! I'm still a student tho, but I moved to another country when I was 19 and everything you just said made sense, I literally felt like I was the one talking 🙈 And about the part where you talked about your childhood town/home, when you said that you have your family there but there's nothing else for you there, I just wanted to say I know how you feel and it's not weird at all. My mom once told me the reason I'm feeling that way is cuz I used everything that could be offered to me by my home country and that's why the only thing I miss from it is my family and nothing else. It's good that you're feeling that way, it means you've grown and that you still want to grow and experience more stuff and that's always a good thing cuz well life has a lot to offer. 😍

I respect your honesty and work ethic so much. I appreciate that you show your process and beyond the scenes because I know that social media based work is not for me and I enjoy that I can actually physically leave my job and not think about it when I need to. A lot of pressure is put on us in our 20’s to be defined by our career or our jobs, especially if you are navigating the world as a single person. At the end of the day, all types of work will be there, but it doesn’t change us as people.

If it makes you feel any better, I moved states away from my family so when I do see them I'm 100% way more present and I think that my time with them is way more valuable and cherished compared to what it would be if I lived in the area. Like when I was at home I didn't really cherish the time but now I am making valuable and cherished memories. Which I think is so much better than living there and being like "well I can see them whenever I want so I don't need to be sappy." Having that mindset of "I am only here for a couple of days before I go a month or so without them so I better make it count" really is super helpful for me. When I lived near them I didn't cherish them the way I do now and I think that making these moments more valuable than I did before gives me that justification that it's okay to be my own person. They raised me to grow up and find the life I want to live so I need to continue doing that, and in return I will give them 100% of my love and life when I do see them :)

I'm seriously starting to feel the same way. I'll be graduating in April at 20 and I have no plan. No job lined up, nothing. I've been applying over and over and over again to positions, but nothing has worked out. I feel like all the work I've put in over the past 15 years hasn't mattered at all. It's nice to hear that I'm not the only one going through something like this, like they feel displaced (not that I'm saying it's a good thing lol!). when you were packing your things to go to your parents house, i related so much to what you were saying because our circumstances may be a bit different but the sentiment is the same. i really appreciate your honesty about your feelings towards going back to a place that is home but at the same time a place that brings back bad memories, i felt this way recently too. as you said, we need to focus more on the positives and remind ourselves that we are past that and that we’ve grown from it! watching the last few minutes of the vlog made me feel understood, I hope that with time this type of stuff becomes easier for us and I wanted to share this to say that you are not alone in feeling this way and I hope you know how helpful it is to hear someone (like you) talk about this stuff! 💗

Two seconds in and i already appreciate you so much for even broaching the subject. This is my second year post-grad and THE GROWING PAINS??👀 Me personally I struggle so much with comparing myself to my peers who I consider to be ahead (job wise, moving out, making big adult decisions freely etc) And as a creative (im a graphic designer) also trying to figure out your what direction to take in your career, making money to sustain yourself, the imposter syndrome is soo stressful. There are ups ofcourse but it's a very jarring and scary transition period. Looking forward to it getting easier with time though 🌼

Graphic designer here as well and I kinda sped up the post college experience by dropping out after a semester of sophomore year. But I finally found a job this March and I still don’t know what I want or Really what I’m doing but I know I’ll figure it out. I feel envious at times of my college friends because they look like they’re having so much fun. But I enjoy my freedom so much more after college.

It’s interesting to see this and think ‘wow, I think we all go through this’ and I think it’s less about the post grad and more about the age. I found at that 19-23 age range, I was in a limbo. I had gone to college but wasn’t happy and stopped shortly as I’d found a job doing what I loved. However, doing what you love when it’s a sport is risky, and dependent on others. I kicked off strong, but then the it faded and I was left in a quandary. But, within that time, I found that I was good at teaching and thus, found my career, which kicked off at 24. All I can say is enjoy being young. Enjoy every experience you can get and don’t think ‘I’m too old for this’ for those who might be at my age. Experiences have no time limit. Great video Hannah!

It makes perfect sense. And you're describing triggers. Those are so hard to control but something that might help is doing something there thats super special and memorable, like doing something priceless for your mom or doing something unforgetable with grandma, etc. That way when you come back home and those inevitable and unwelcomed triggers pop up now you can also have a great memory to replace those thoughts. (Learned that in therapy) lol which is a very mature and wise thing to do. Hugs!!!

1000% agree with what you said. My whole “school” life I knew that the end when I was a senior and going to graduate that I was supposed to have an idea as to what I wanted to be or study or have a career in. Literally as the years went on and the more I thought about it all I could think was “How the hell am I supposed to know what I want to do for the rest of my life?”. Whenever I got asked what I wanted to do I never had an answer, and I still don’t to this day as a 24 year old. It’s still a question that I don’t have an answer for and it’s nerve wracking. All this is to say thank you for putting this out to the world, I knew I couldn’t be the only one out there, and I’m still searching.

Girl, I FEEL YOU on most of the sentiments shared in the video! I’m 10 years older than you (not that it matters, but…) and a lot of this still holds up! Especially about returning home and a lot of negative feelings and memories flooding in. I also moved to New York last year (June of 2021) and when I visited home (Chicago) for the first time I was like 🥴🫤🫠. It was weird. I think I’m much happier in New York because like you said, this place is new and has nothing to do with all those bad memories. Also, I LOVE your videos! I’ve been following you for at least a year now- I came across you when I was looking for “moving to New York” content and voila! lol. It was so hard for me to watch this vlog and feel every single thing that you said. Weirdly, there is someone far from me who thinks and feels the same as me. Now that I know I'm not alone in my thoughts and the situation I have. I'm thinking maybe it's meant to be like this, it has to be both feeling good and bad when we leave our parent's house. I've had such a hard time getting up every morning and realizing that I'm not in my room ( in my parent's house ) anymore. And now that I want to visit them and go back it's just hard to go through everything that I have just been there. It's just hurt when you go back and find out you're not there anymore. You're not part of that house anymore but it's still your home. It just hurts and is complicated to manage our taught and feelings. So, you're not alone.

First of all I love how you rant because I do it the same way going back and forth about going home when it’s not really your home anymore. It’s such a weird feeling but being with your family is what counts. And exactly how I’ve felt about picking your job for your whole life. Makes no sense and most people have multiple careers / endeavors I feel like. I wish most of these thoughts weren’t instilled in us. Also of course college is important but it should be okay that some people don’t want to go to college. Don’t know if you’ll see this but I’d love to get a coffee with you sometime!

This series is everything. Growing up myself, seeing you growing up, it all makes me soo happy and gives me the hope, that in the end, everything will be alright.🖤🥹 I know your fears about talking about jobs etc. I travelled some weeks before starting a job and felt super guilty to have the privilege to do whatever I want and take my time. Being a post grad is a big roller coaster. You‘re doing great girly. You‘re helping me so much to grow up. I‘m super excited to see what the future brings. Thank you. 🖤 Ps (I‘m also seeing a therapist since some months and it‘s really great. It helped a lot getting my thoughts sorted and to prioritize them. What is really important, what is just anxiety-bla bla. So yes I can fully recommend seeing a professional to talk to)

Hi Hannah!❤ First of all, I loved this video! I think it’s very important that you are sharing your whole post-grad and moving out experience to everyone, it helps a lot anyone who is passing trough the same! The way you talk and express your feelings is incredible! Also, I’m a psychology student and I really think everyone should go to a therapist, it will only do you good, it doesn’t mean you’re crazy or anything! And if you are feeling like you should and you have that will, then you definitely should try it out! Always remember that if you don’t like it, you can just leave (not all therapists are good for you!)! Anyways, I think it’s very good for your mental health, to recover from traumas or bad memories, honestly, just to get to know more about yourself and how you can deal better with your problems! Hope this is isn´t to personal! Take care! Please continue being you and I wish you all the best!
