The Porsche 928S. The GT car that's still eating the miles and turning heads.
The Porsche 928s was this the car that saved the 911?

Ive owned my 1987 928S4 for 30 years. Its still my everyday transport and a joy to drive. Totally reliable and over-engineered so not a single rattle or issue. I just love it.

928 for life
I would buy one of these cars in a heartbeat if I had the funds to fix it up and maintain it.
Just bought a spontaneous 928 could not resist a 1980 model 4.7S with manual gearbox moments of shall I or shall I not, in the end surcome to the excitement and passion for this great car.
The car that enabled Jeremy Clarkson to go see his dad at Sheffield 30 mins before he died whilst keeping the chicken warm. Yes a car i still remember via that episode and also surprisingly hot wheels [yup just a few days ago i bought a 928 hotwheels]. Really wish to drive one someday and have an experience myself
I remember as a kid in the 70s when this great thing came out. Was Blown away. Unreachable Head turning dreamcar. What a Design. Would prefer this every time over a modern car.
Had an '89 S4. It ran like a champion and I was king of the highway. Could cruise all day at 120 mph if I was allowed to here in the USA, so I settled for 10 minutes at 140. Rock solid at speed. Practically gave it away.
I remember the first time I saw one of these. It was like it had landed from another planet. It looked like it was a huge Germanic electric shaver and the design language was completely foreign. A friend had a white 928S and I enjoyed a few trips in that. I ended up buying a 560 SEC and still have that. But if I could have a second car, this would be the one.
A wonderful tribute to a car which was way ahead of its time. A forgotten hero car for a long time, but not anymore. Porsche should bring the 928S back in my humble opinion, in some form or other. 4.7 litre petrol V8 (or 3.0 litre V6 maybe), hybrid with 4 wheel steer. RWD (4WD option) auto, say 480-500 PS combined. 3 door hatch. They already have a platform or two they could use. They would sell like HOT cakes I would imagine. Great video in lovely scenery.

Maybe. Porsche already has a large lineup of cars. Maybe retool the Panamera.

By making a 2-door Panamera with a V8….would be a homage to the 928….even could call it a 928.
I would so love to have this with a manual gear box and electric antenna. It was love at first sight when the 928 came out in the late 70's ❤
I greatly miss the 928 the monster Mile cruncher of the late 70’s till the mid 90’s, along with the Xjs they were both favourites of mine & each had fabulous distinctive styling, which is greatly missed these days.

Agreed John. We seem to not see design like this nowadays. Driving this myself I soon felt confident and at home on the country roads. Such a rewarding and relaxing car to pilot.
Why yes, the most underrated Porsche ❤ I’m a 928 maniac

@The Downshift that was great mate. Thank you for involving my car :)
Update the interior to match the modern demand for comfort and styling. I wouldn't do anything to the exterior. And bingo ! You could sell it today ...... Timeless
How is there not a single sound of the thing driving? Good God.

Because I didn't have a mic for the day and it would have just been wind noise. This also bugs me. But new rode mics are here and this will be fixed in future videos!
Love them so much these mile eaters💪🏻😍
This is a nice video of the first gen. Porsche 928
No stats, no info. No driving impressions.
3 speed auto S is the nicest spec, especially with that full leather interior. Best cars I have ever driven....by far. Had 4, still have 2, want more.. Thankfully most people don't look beyond the 911

Having driven every series of 928 apart from the GTS, 3 and 4 speed autos and manual (which I still have) the auto is way better in town. I love the manual on the open road but its a total pain in city driving, just saying

I had a 928s auto, it suited the car perfectly. Could cruise along at low speed and in traffic it was easy to drive. Had the power when you put your foot down, I hit 160mph without too much fuss. Favourite car I have ever owned😊

The Porsche 928 is My 1980s Lottery Win Dream Car.
I wouldn't change anything on the exterior. But i would update the interior with modern tech and comfort/styling . And bingo ! You could sell it today !
Such an awesome car. Most people don't realize that the Panamara is the continuation of the 928. I wish Mercedes and Porsche worked together and called the Mercedes GTS coupe the 928. Such a fitting car to carry the 928 nameplate.

@@andydhillon1977 Was it 1 that was created? I think so. Hey, I always hoped they would bring back the 928. I have an '89 GT, mint condition. No doubt a new, modern version would be something to see.

The Panamera is not the continuation of the 928. They are not related in any way. Maybe targeting a similar buyer but they have nothing in common really

@928pcar Have you seen the 4-dr 928 Porsche actually made?
Lovely car! , same as mine 👌
👍
Yep, it's great, but soooo many parts are no longer available, it's tragic really because it's a huge part of Porsche history. My own personal 928 will probably never turn a wheel again. Too many reasons to explain here, but sadly parts supply is No.1

A great car which has finally come of age.Few cars are as good as the 928 at long distance cruising .Its far more relaxing and comfortable than a 911, but still is not a 911.I can never imagine Porsche without the 911.

It’s better than a 911 in every way besides a few seconds on a track. Faster too
A music video 🤣
My favorite Porsche, by far, followed by the 914...ya gotta love the sound of that V8 when you're on the throttle...💯🤘🏻🇺🇸
I had a manual S, it went very well, pulled like a train but was a bit of a dog unfortunately, very unreliable and I had lots of problems with it. If you find a good one, I'll be a great car, they just eat the miles up and you'll arrive at your destination as fresh as a daisy.
Its alright

Hello 2024 from Australia! I was working for Porsche Australia when the 928's arrived in 1980 and I have to say they received a reputation as somewhat of a money pit back then and in the following years and variants. Mechanically they were unreliable and quality control and component quality was rather poor. I'd have to say in the few years I was dealing with these at least 70% were moved on to other owners fairly smartly. They were slightly less troublesome than the 924's but on a par with the 944. I personally loved them however I got to return them every day. ;-) I will say that the 911's were really not much better and sales were lackluster to say the least. They were also VERY expensive at the time and this did not help. Cheers!@@Downshift_22
