@davidklein1903 as far as I know he doesn't speak the language, not fluently enough to act at least. He was probably coached, which makes this even more impressive

I disagree. I come from an Italian speaking family as well and I wasn't overly impressed with Crowe's. Still a fantastic actor

@danieldevito6380 for someone who doesn't actually speak the language he did a way better job than "italian-Americans" convinced they speak the language. Last time I was in NY and someone realized I was from Italy and tried to speak italian (what he believed was italian, at least), I couldn't understand a word. I can understand Crowe well enough. Sure, the pronunciation is off-key many times, sure, the grammar might not be perfect, but he did a phenomenal job for someone whose first language is English and with no formal Italian training.

Russel Crowe is the kind of actor that could read the label of dish detergent in such a way you'll be gripping the arms of your chair because of the way he manifests his character's power, rage, compassion and depth turning a scene with such impact you walk away from it in awe. His talent is remarkable.

What an absolutely riveting performance. I've been a follower of the paranormal for 60 years and seeing the real Father Amorth in action in various video clips, he completely 'nails it' in his portrayal of this famous exorcist priest. Coincidentally, he was born in the same village as my maternal grandmother and was a contemporary of the now sainted Padre Pio...

Russel is playing magnificent here. This role suits him nicely

Really enjoyed this film! Worth a watch for sure, Crowe really fit the role well!!!

This movie is incredible, and Russell Crowe is a force of nature in his role. The little moments add to the tension. Note how the demon flinches at 3:38 when Father Amorth holds up his Saint Benedict medallion. Satan might try to scare the priest, but he recognises the one Power he can't overcome. Those medallions don't have "Vade retro satana" ("Begone, Satan!") on the back of them without reason.

Essentially, it represents a prayer on its user’s part for God’s blessing and protection. The initials you see at in the centre of the medal at 3:41 - C S S M L and N D S M D - are the initials of the words “Crux sacra sit mihi lux! Nunquam draco sit mihi dux!” (May the holy cross be my light! May the dragon never be my overlord!). The medal represents faith - that God watches over us, and that because of Him we needn’t fear demons.

I mean if you watched the actual movie you would know that the first "demon" wasn't a real demon at all. He even explains it in the hearing.

Rusty has been one of Australia's best actors, long before the rest of the world found out about him.

As the son of Italian immigrants, my mother was a school teacher before emigrating to Newark NJ from Italy in the early 1950's. I must say Mr. Crowe's Italian pronunciation is not bad at all. Pretty impressive for a non Italian from Australia.

I’m Italian, actually I mean, and I find his broken Italian a bit strange to hear. I’d rather hear him speak English.

He's always been a good actor. Just picks roles or directors that doesn't match his skills. Don't think anyone living or dead could have done gladiator any better. This movie looks very good!

I choose Master & Commander.

Great performance from Russel C ,he seems to fit the role very well, also the supporting actors were brilliant. What makes the film more interesting was the fact he portrays an actual priest (deceased).Gets a 10/10 from me!

I wonder will there be a sequel to this movie Russel Crowe was great in this & his Italian was magniquè I'd like to see him fighting more demons

I'm not religious but there's an old story in my family apparently my great grand mother from Switzerland in the 1940s helped a priest once with an exorcism, when she came home she told my grand father "son just know that there is good and evil in this world" make of that what you will

This was a good movie. Russell Crowe was very good and I almost didn't recognize him at first.

Russel Crow is so op and the Cult as movie music is Epic!

I haven't watch this movie yet. I am watching this clip, with the family driving up the rode, and I hear "She Sells Sanctuary" by the Cult, one of the greatest songs in my library. I had wondering why music was in this movie, I had to make sure my music wasn't turned on. I realized this album came out during... 1985- 1986. It's fits the time.

Satan wasn't there. It wasn't a true possession. The boy didn't know the father's name and only knew English from watching TV. He was mentally ill,and the exorcist gave him a start on healing, which needed to be followed by professional therapy. This was all made clear in the exorcist's report and testimony.

Russel Crowe really studied how to speak Latin fluently. He's a great Actor. But no way that Satan can possessed a Priest in actual battle. He can never put Jesus undersiege.

Damn this priest is hardcore tricked a whole demon into possessing a pig and then killed the pig ending the exorcism. That’s hardcore.
