The political analysis on Zuma’s sentencing
As we return to our lead story this morning - the ANC says it is still studying yesterday's Constitutional Court ruling to sentence the party's former President, Jacob Zuma to 15 months in jail for being in contempt of court after he failed to appear and participate at the Commission of Inquiry into allegations of State Capture. In a statement, the ruling party has also called on its supporters and members to remain calm. The judgment emphasised that Zuma was no ordinary litigant, but as the former President of the country - he continued to wield significant political influence and that his actions could be seen as inciting others to similarly defy court orders. Yesterday's judgment could have an impact on the country's political discourse and to help us further unpack the political consequences - we are joined by political analyst, Aubrey Matshiqi.

Very interesting, insightful and impartial analysis 🙌🏽 Thokoza Gogo 🙏🏽
Very neutral, and also eye opening... Thokoza Gogo.
This old man knows politics very much
What is he talking about though. The man is in contempt of the Concourt and if you say yes he broke the law you can't then say he shouldn't be punished for that. What Zuma could have done is to respect the court and go on to participate at the commission while he has his appeal pending.
Our Gogo remain the only real analyst I know
These analysis are on point
Why everyone is worrying abt zuma sentencing. Are we going to get the money back.courts shd worry abt the present looters.
Junior Kanye of politics
Well Aubrey is just wrong.
Why don't they allow him to appeal that is his basic human right, the Con Court got it wrong there
The perfect storm has started
Zuma adopted a political stance. One which could not be handled legally. The Con Court should have pushed the matter back to politics where it rightly belongs. State Capture was a term introduced for political reasons. You can't start with a conclusion and claim to be making an investigation. One thing is now clear. The Con Court is, surely by its own behaviour, coming out, as it must be, neutral. The Court took itself as pursuing an agenda. It took President Jacob Zuma as it's opponent, thereby misdirected itself. Hence the intemperate language and the own goal of denying President Jacob Zuma the right to appeal. The Con Court has shown that it is an interested party in this case. Should we ask whose side and agenda it is pursuing? Clearly from this, it is hard to argue that the Con Court has not been itself captured.
But he's got so many chances 🙆♀️🙆♀️🙆♀️🙆♀️
I wonder if he still remembers the song "mshini wami." Had he not forced his way through to be a president, he wouldn't be where he is now. Because he would not have been the instrument used to loot so much money.

Gogo wow 👏
If I, as ordinary citizen, am in contempt of court, I will be punished. Mr Zuma is in contempt of court. If the law is blind and without reproach, this is undoubtedly the correct verdict by the Con Court.
