JSC | MK Party defends Dr Hlophe's nomination: Kevin Smith weighs in

The MK Party has defended its decision to nominate impeached Judge Dr John Hlophe to serve on the Judicial Service Commission. In 1948, after the National Party won that year's elections, Apartheid became a social project of the government based on a series of laws which made it legal. Try reading for understanding, not for responding.

And another masters in sustainable agriculture but I have never been even considered for any senior positions but we find a matriculated heading that department. Hence while I left 8 years ago and went to Australia but now Residing and working in USA as a senior agriculturist in Louisiana

    They can nominate anyone they want including former apartheid criminals- doesn't mean they should be appointed - just like you can charge anyone you want with theft - but when it gets to court or parliament etc that is where it should be filtered and accepted or rejected on rational grounds

    Context matters. On the context of SA politics Dr Hlophe is well place. SA has a tendency of applying law on the basis of who the individual is, not on the general prescriptions of the constitution. For that reason, i will argue that SA has less respect for the constitution, and it weaponise it to fight political battles

    The issue of ethics has to do with public knowledge. Those in Freedom under law or any other NGO must understand one thing, they too have ethical issues which is not public knowledge. The same applies to judges and everyone else. The DA must be told the truth.

    Sir get your words factually checked. Justice Hlophe was not and is not Convicted of anything. No Competent Court made such order. So you miss the point by a mile. Infact it was a mere impeachment Vote he suffered a Loss on. So rather stick to a neutral wording or saying impeached not convicted. Those two concepts are mutually distinctive. Love from Namibia 🇳🇦

    But this is not a position of being a judge he's being nominated for here. People with no expert knowledge of law are holding his position at the JSC. Dr. Hlophe is more suitable for this and he's no longer a judge. Racists politicians wanted him to be ousted from a position of being a judge and they won. Now he's going there as an expert, a graduate with PhD in Law from Cambridge University. Live with it
