Wait a minute. This was the Police on tour, right? Are you saying ALL of those bands played as opening acts?!? Or was this actually some new wave festival the Police headlined? If the latter, awfully impressive of them to do a full 90+ minute set when festival appearances are too often abbreviated versions of a band's usual show.

Sting was dabbling in cocaine around 1981-82 or the Ghost In The Machine sessions, and yes the videos shot in Montserrat. Also check out Police live 1982 Gateshead in Stings hometown, he is tweaking. I think he grew bored with it shortly after and Trudie put a stop to it.

The Police were pure magic together but I think Sting's spirituality really brought the music serious depth, insight and sophisication. It is so unique, powerful, moving, introspective, philosophical and life affirming. It actually makes me feel closer to God. When I was young and going through bad times this album and my cat were my only happiness. Thankfully better times came but I uniquely appreciate them for helping me out of a time I considered dire. I feel always indebted to them. And wish I could thank them. God bless guys.

Side Two of Synchronicity already sounds like early solo Sting Adult Contemporary soft rock. The trio were not short on ideas. Some songs on Stings first solo album could've been Policified. They did regroup in 1986 to rerecord some hits, but Stewarts injury and group fighting put a stop to the reunion.

Paul Wilkinson - Boring real answer: I think gearing myself up every night, getting into that state of mind to deliver a knockout performance wherever I was, whether the stadium was sold-out or half-empty or even if I’d performed virtually the same setlist for 100 nights in a row, would be really taxing… a person would probably need about three or four pre-show hours of total solitude daily in order to get into that frame of mind, although being megastar rockstars with ample funds and a big entourage would probably make getting replenished daily a little easier; the performing part itself would be a breeze, especially if the audiences are good and receptive - just hearing the crowd from the wings, when the lights go down, cheering before you hit the stage, is enough of an adrenaline boost to get all the performance juices flowing for 90 minutes, easily for way longer, and then when the lights hit you and the crowd roars, gah… you can be the shyest human being alive, and I promise you, the lights and the noise and the focused attention on you is enough to transform anyone; I’d say ramping DOWN after a show would be the hardest part, I’ve never been in a mega rock group, but I’ve performed on a stage before a sold-out room (a mid-size theater was the largest) under bright lights, and that’ll buzz you for hours… that alone might cost you sleep nightly, and then, depending on how “healthy” a lifestyle you’re sustaining on the road (wink), I think _that’s_ the part that could probably kill a person. So yeah, I don’t know that performing would be the problem, I’d think working out what to do with your downtime - both to gear yourself up before a show, and not to accidentally die or incapacitate yourself (or catch something) after - would be the toughest part.

I play bass and often use the Iron Maiden Live After Death album as my practice album. One year I tried to follow the schedule and play the album in full night after night, and just as hard as a live performance - I made it a few weeks. It's tough to gear up and play like that night after night, and I didn't even have to travel anywhere.

I think it was exciting for a while playing their new material to an excited audience that was topping the charts. Perhaps it became routine after a while. Stewart recalled having a blast and getting off on kicking ass nigh after night as the hottest band in the world.

No it doesn't, that's the backing track that Sting starts with his right hand on the keys before coming in with the bass line. They took a page out of Rush's book and used a lot of pedal triggers and synth back tracks to replicate the album more closely for the live performance. He does the same thing for Walking in Your Footsteps before he comes in with the pan flute.

So where are the great back-up singers on this video? Seems like they're deep in the background shadows and don't get shown on camera for a single second! I realize Stewart, Andy, and Sting are the stars here, but you'd think the cameramen/producers could present those fine contributors to the show at least a few moments on the camera, especially if they're trying to convey to fans what it was like to actually be there. Shame on them! EDIT: I stand corrected. They got a full 2 seconds near the end. (eye roll). Not blaming the band at all, but crappy of the video producers.

@@thewomble1509They're using pre-recorded synth triggered back tracks for some songs, but the main instruments are all live. Sting uses bass pedals at times too so it sometimes appears he's not hitting notes on the bass when he's doing it with his foot.
