People don't realize that but you are 100 percent correct. When I first heard The Police on the radio, the most distinctive sound was Andy's Guitar. Nobody sounded like that before him. Ex. Don't stand so close to me.

This was their best tour, three albums worth of material, sticking to the tracks on the album, with some great jams. While their best album is yet to come, ghost in the machine (which is my all-time favorite album of any group/artist) but on that ghost tour, some may remember was when sting started to create new arrangements of their songs for live concerts. These Arrangements were not good ( and I am being kind about it). Take a look at the ghost tour and his awful rearrangement of Hungry for You. This, in turn led to some thinking that they are not a good live band, but that was actually not the case and with the synchronicity tour they sort of got back to just playing the songs. Sort of, Not completely though, The Grammys and their reunion tour was again rearranging great songs to make them less not more. A shame. Ghost in the machine is near perfection, if not perfection. The band’s amazing talent was tightly surrounded by keyboards and saxophones. Why not play like the record in concert? Went to that show and it was very disappointing. Oh well, I got over it. Sort of.

I am a huge Police fan but I was still a little young to fully appreciate them this early. I was bourn in 1967 so I was still kind of a tweenager during this year. I had just discovered them in 1980 and only had a couple of their songs I recorded off of a radio station late night on a crappy mono tape recorder but it was a treasure to me. These are my favorite songs and did not realize how far back they recorded them. Man do I wish someone would have do a new vinyl pressing of this concert. I would be in heaven. Hell even a remaster with a clean up and new vinyl pressing would be worth it's weight in Gold to me. I still have 5 decent cassette decks at home just waiting for a tape of this to play. TDK, Sony, Tascom, 3M anybody out there are you paying attention? Are you listening? Many of us are starving for actual Music instead of the garbage being dumped out there today. What does it tell you when many current groups have been trying to play covers or are sampling older music to make new recordings of their tweaked music.

Although zenyatta mondatta is not their best work in my opinion, they were at their peak live on this tour. On this concert they were amazing, I especially like when the World is running down, bring on the night, so lonely, driven to tears and the bed's too big without you.

Speakers are exploded, THE POLICE sirens are started. Energy, generosity on the stage were the key of this incomparable & unforgettable band. Unique Sting boice, unique Copeland hit=hat & snare sound, unique Summers British phlegm : unique trio.

I was at this show. Finally got around to watch this all the way through. I suppose I hadn't ever before because I remember it being GREAT and didn't want to look at this video to see otherwise 30 years later, LOL. Good news: It was great. Especially the second half of this video including Roxanne and the encores. A strong memory that I had was that during Roxanne, they had very bright backlights that seemed blinding to the audience. They turned them on during the chorus of the song. It was very cool because those lights hadn't been used prior to that moment of the show. I did see evidence of this in this video, but the angle that the camera captures the stage doesn't give it full effect. I'm going to trust my memory of it ; ) Trust me. I was happy to watch this today, seeing Sting in his prime, about to become a world-class performer. I also got reminded why Stu was my favorite drummer back then. I loved the way his entire drum kit shook and bounced. The Police were a great band. Last comment - the video that proceeds this one is from a show in the UK not quite two years after this one. You can see what a big year and half it was for the band, and how popular they had become. And one more comment from me - I saw them at Nassua Coliseum at the end of their North America leg of the Ghost in the Machine Tour. I expected it to be not as good as this one, (much larger venue, etc) but it may have been even better. Can somebody post THAT concert?? Haha.

Hey Robert, I think I was also at this show. Do you recall it starting with a guy coming out after the warmup band saying there was a bomb scare and we should look under our seats. Then when there was no bomb the show went off.

Far? They'd only been an album band for 2 years at this point, 2 years is not far. Fall Out disappeared from the set list at Ghost in the Machine tho, just seemed so out of place with the more sophisticated songs.
