My father (born 1940) introduced the police in our family with this amazing concert in Paradiso Amsterdam. I still love it

This fantastic show was broadcaste on Dutch radio around 1980. I taped it and played that tape until death, until I understood and could copy every sound of these brilliant guys. A key step in my musical development, to really listen what musicians really play. Those instructions from Sting to Stewart "shhhh" are so funny between 12:30 and 13:00

Amazing how clean they sound at slower tempos, typically Copeland plays these tunes twice as fast as this recording.

Just AWESOME!!! Why? It was my first 'getting to know' The Police adventure. I was there at the front row, gazing at Stewart Copeland, me being a starting drummer, not knowing exactly which drummer I really liked. I was listening to several drummers, tried a bit of this and that, but then I saw this guy behind his Tama-set. God had descended and answered my prayers and I immediately knew that this was the band I would be listening to and more importantly, this drummer would be my number 1 drum-inspirator, for the rest of my life.....

Man! the same happened to me. As soon as i listened Outlandos damour... stewart' style became the one i'd embrace. It made me improve lightyears in my drumming... Man, i envy you for being in this gig.. ..one of my first stops If i had a time machine. Tot kijk! ; )

I had the great pleasure of recording live U.S. performances for The Police twice in 1979, about 6 months apart. The change in their writing and arranging was mind-blowing in that short time. I told some of my associates at the time, when Roxanne was all anyone knew of them, that they would be the biggest band in the world, to much laughter and mocking. A year later, I was the one laughing.

This gig was after Pinkpop (4th June, 1979). He was referring to the gigs played in 1977 with Wayne County (25th March in Paradiso) and as a 'headliner' 17th October in the 'Milkyway'. They also played several other gigs in Holland on those tours.

How many pictures were token of this gig? It's alot! I also enjoy this really cool early-pre- recorded version of Beds too Big as this is one of the first couple of times they would perform this song, and with each passing year, this song would become shorter and shorter at the middle eight!

I don't think so about the beds to big with out you are you pretty sure,,?? Because i saw them in the bowery at cbgb,s snd I saw them there the first time they ever played there for the first time in the states and it was stings birthday and it was packed with all punk rockers and i went with my bass player ,i was only 17 or 18 and i it was off the hook to say the least loud which I love and about a million miles an hour ! Fast man Stewart Copeland , they sll were moving furniture like I've never seen before and then they came back to i believe there again or maybe it was the Ritz but they said that they were playing the beds to big for the first time in the States I m almost positive and i was in a nother time zone the whole fn. Night finally a new band and. Drummer that hooked me in every different way and there were a bunch like style from the beginning and the power speed crossticking and just so fn bad and different in every way . Doggone, back in that time era , The Police something totally unique and different and everything!!! The early year,s were sy kick ass buy they dig have great stuff later too.murder by number,s oh God so much but i saw them in the ending years and its sad because so much crap destroyed it I talked y sting and he was ,well after ti album with Vinny and you know that seven summers tales or whatever, that albuy he did and that line up with every musician in that band playing live snd how that album had the time signature,s dancing along and with that whole album with those band members like I said and live,. They were kicking!! Even Joni Mitchell said see those several ones , they are the really real Deal!!!!!! Ahhh!,yesi know and JonieMitchel knows i d say everything!!!!! Sorry I can't spell God Bless you all!!

The police owe everything to black musicians. They should build a black institution for free music lessons, seeing as All of their success is based on black people and rhythms.😮😮😮

You must be for cultural segregation, like one of those racists from the 50s. In the 70s in the UK, blacks and whites were making music together and music brought everyone together. You're just a hateful racist. Reggae is a style of music that anyone can copy but they made it their own anyway.

Why didn't anyone else have remotely the same amount of success as the Police doing the reggae-new wave style? Black or white? Music is about sharing, it's beautiful. You have a racist soul.
