I was recently in the hospital for six months. I had six surgeries including amputation of my leg. This song was part of what kept me motivated to get better. It would not be a stretch to say The Pointer Sisters helped to save my life.

I remember the Pointer Sisters very well. I also grew up in Oakland and saw a lot of bands in the Bay Area in the late 60's and early 70's. One place I went to a lot was the Berkeley Community Theatre - I saw many, many great people and bands there. One band was the Elvin Bishop Group. They supported a lot for things like John Lee Hooker, Van Morrison and Ike and Tina Turner etc. One time I went to the loo between the shows and saw the Pointer Sisters after their set sitting in the lobby. I walked over and told them how much I liked them - this was probably about 1970 - they were so gracious and sweet and chatted to me for awhile. I will never forget them.

Amazing, anyone that has ever seen the Pointer Sisters live, know they are the truth. Happy to have seen them at their peak. That song, written by New Orleans genius Allen Toussaint, put them on the map. And as a side note, provided a catchy slogan for a certain president. (I think y'all know) Yeah, and like most of us dudes in high, at the time, had major crushes on them sisters. Thank you Pointer Sisters for providing real music for of us, that came of age during the seventies.🎉

June was such a beautiful soul, and so down to earth, and kindhearted. Her and Anita were the most humble, gracious ladies. Ruth was always quite fierce, and, well, let's just say that Bonnie felt the need to steal my cigarettes one night, but she cool. God rest her and June's souls.

Pointer Sisters,...on fire,..Ruth, [you] all represent a moment of time in my early days,...Hall of Fame, wake up! My favorite song, "Yes, you can",.. reminiscent of: another family group: Staples: "I'll take you there",...I said it first,..."Fire, Slow hand",... "for all the ones we lost, we will find them in our hearts",... you were therefore, you are", June, Bonnie, and Anita (Jade)~ Ruth,..Sisters, forever!

A social message still, maybe even more relevant today. Holy hell, these ladies were something. If only I wasn't like five years old at the time. To be there.
