My beautiful mum Maisie Bosquette, Strokestown, County Roscommon, Ireland, passed away 22nd January 2023 in her 90th Year and this was one of her favourites. We played it as she left the Church on the journey to her final resting place. She loved Shane so much. This one is for you mum. I'm so proud of you and all you achieved. Rest peacefully to the greatest mum I could ever dream to have had. 💔 R.I P 🙏🏼

My husband and I had pretty opposite musical taste, but we both loved The Pogues. He picked this song for our first dance at our wedding. ❤ Tragically, a little less than three years after getting married, my husband passed away suddenly and unexpectedly when he was just 44. So I played this song at our honoring ceremony for him too. 💔 He always was and always will be the measure of my dreams…..

RIP, Shane. No one captured the modern Irish immigrant experience quite like you, with all the joys and ecstasy and heartache and loneliness. A poet for all those heartbroken by the world. And that doesn't even touch upon what you contributed to Irish Republicanism. There'll never be another one like you.

I met him a few times, he was such brilliant company. What a sad day. The last of the great poetic singer songwriters. Btw, his English teacher when he was 11 read his essay homework and was so amazed by it he sent it to the headmaster of the hyper exclusive (and expensive) Westminster public school. Shane was then given a scholarship to Westminster and was considered by all his class as a genius, until he was expelled for drug dealing. Dominic Lawson was in his class - he never got over being beaten in English Composition by the Irish lout.

I haven't drank liquor in over a year now, just wine once in a while is all, but many many years I listened to him while drunk and it gave me peace and sadness...he's one of a kind!!! and I never cry over singers/actors BUT clint eastwood and shane I will mourn over! they are worthy....the song with no name is my favorite makes me think of my bitch but beautiful ex we both fucked that relationship up...but that song says it all!! and that was his solo song. his pogues dirty old town takes me away!!....I feel sad for people that will never get into shane/pogues music and if so understand it...they just call him drunk...so what! he lives the life he sings....imo he is not one of the best but THE best!! I live somewhere in the nook of an unknown corner in Asia. Listening to this song, I know what it is to be an Irish. The irony is I'm beginning to feel Irish, too. Shane's singing cuts deep! Love it

Ah Shane you represented us! The children of Irish ☘️ immigrants to London… you like me went to Tipperary for your summer. You loved sitting and listening to the older people… you and me and our first generation Irish lived in families who said … we are going home for summer! There is nothing plastic about our love and experience of growing up in our Irish families… you represent us and you do it or should I say … you did it so well. So I will raise a glass to you up there with the ole ones !! Take care as you go and thank you 🙏 my my heart to yours . X
