The Plugin Alliance Brainworx Elysia Alpha Compressor. The BEST in the box mastering compressor?
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this video, I demonstrate how I use the classic plugin from Plugin Alliance and Brainworx, the emulation of the Elysia Alpha Mastering Compressor on two masters. No science, no Plugin Doctor, just how it actually sounds and ways to use it.
HEADPHONES are suggested.

I love your presentation style. I especially love when you point out what to listen to - listen to how this shapes the snare, etc. Those things specifically point my ear somewhere and it’s highly educational to an aspiring engineer. 👊🏻

Awesome. It's an absolute beast, but if you tame it, it's one of the best in-the-box compressors and soft clippers IMO. Thank you for watching.
Love the song!!! Didn’t know you mastered it, such a great work. 🎉 Great plugins choice on your videos. 🙏🏻

He certainly is! If for some reason, you're looking for old gems for one of your next videos, the Plugin Alliance Millennia TLC2 in TT Mode is beautiful, add such a clean/polished sparkle on the top end. Hope, as you mentioned, they'll update the GUI: so so so small on a retina display.
Love your presets on the LISA plugin!!! The best

I love that you're revisiting some of these older plugins and presenting them anew. It's so easy to get drawn to newer, shinier toys when going down the rabbit hole of plugins. It's nice to be reminded that some these older ones still have some value and might actually be preferable in some situations. I've been using the Unisom on my mastering chain, but I'm going to give this one a go. I've just signed up to the PA subscription so there are a lot of plugins to choose from. It's nice to have these types of videos that are both current and relevant as guides.

Thanks for watching dude. Yes I try and make a conscious effort to not always think “newer is better”.

@@TheCratesMotel Of course, that being said, I'll be looking forward to your take on "The Oven", that just dropped today at Plugin Alliance. I'm going to give it a whirl on my next project.

@@TheCratesMotel LOL. It's funny because I just started to use Vitalizer after watching your Secret Sauce review of it. Now this seems a bit like in the same vein. Really looking forward to getting into the weeds with this one.
The soft clip on this thing is magical. I use the whole compressor but if I only got the soft clip circuit with M/S, I'd still pay full price lol. I'll use this (if im not using the compression im using the shadow hills as my compressor, typically if I want that slow La-2a type compression as glue and then tickle the VCA needle just to make sure all of those transients are where I want them), into the soft clip, into an analog emulation eq (UAD hitville has been a go-to recently but normally Noiseash pultec emulation), into ozone (dynamic eq -> M/S eq -> spectrum if the stereo balance is weird and I need to make things wider or tighter -> Maximizer)

Yes I quite often just use it for the soft clipping. Thank you for watching.
very good contribution to understand this gem. this one will age well. let me add that I think the clipping is also very similar sounding and useful for clipping the kick in Hip-Hop, which is probably often done on the master chain.

Nice tip. Thank you for watching and thank you for your comment.
Nice examples, I love the Alpha, that and the Kotelnikov GE are my main mastering compressors. Spl Iron sometimes and MJUC if it needs flavour. I only use the Shadow Hills on vocals.

Thanks for watching dude. Yeh despite Shadow Hills being called a mastering compressor, I have never used it on a master for a client ever.

@@TheCratesMotel No problem. Love your videos man
Thanks for reminding us how great that plugin is! I remember when I got it I was excited to use it. But as so happens with software, it seems, that new things fly at you faster than you realise and then forget about stuff that already worked really well. Weird thing. Doesn't really happen with hardware that much, does it? The plugin market is wild and crazy these days, and thats both a negative and a positive thing...

Thanks for watching dude. Yes I was hoping the video would make people stad back and think "Hey I already have a load of really good tools..." It is definitely one of those forgotten diamonds.
Here is a link to the manual which also has some great examples on how to use the Alpha: files.plugin-alliance.com/products/elysia_alpha_compressor/elysia_alpha_compressor_manual_en.pdf

Great review. Looks like a very interesting compressor. I'd pick it up, but it hasn't been updated to Apple Silicon. Any word if that'll ever happen?

Thanks for watching. I’m not actually sure. It would appear they are gradually updating to Apple Silicon but I can’t say if they’ll update this one. I know they are constantly being asked to do it.

I like what you doing here, but on youtube its really hard to notice any difference. Especially when you operating with levels around +\- 1 - 2 db
