Музыка
"Everyone come to the living room. There's colored folks on the TV." The Platters perform their number one hit, "The Great Pretender"live on The Perry Como Show February 18, 1956.
"The Great Pretender" is a popular song recorded by The Platters, with Tony Williams on lead vocals, and released as a single in November 1955. The words and music were written by Buck Ram, the Platters' manager and producer who was a successful songwriter before moving into producing and management. The song reached No. 1 on Billboard's Top 100, and No. 5 on the UK charts.
The song has been covered by a number of singers, most notably by Freddie Mercury, whose version reached No. 4 on the UK charts. Sam Cooke's cover of the song is believed to have inspired Chrissie Hynde to name her band The Pretenders

It's really sad how far music has fallen. Thank goodness for these recordings. Maybe one day we'll be inspired to showcase real talent again.
I'm 43 and I thank God for my parents and family who at the center of all of my best memories exposed me to music like this. I LOVE The Platters. I Love You 1,000 Times is my favorite song by them. Great video!
One of the best singing groups around during the 50s.
1950's my father played this a lot. Sunday nights Ed Sullivan Show. Had to be able to sing back then. No fancy technology to make your voice sound good.
They paved the way for future R&B groups. Trailblazers.

Classy yet still were being called boy, girl, the n word, getting ripped off and treated like nobody in society. It's hard for me to watch this stuff knowing what they had to tolerate to appear "classy" or like they've made it. The Decadent Veil.

When we as black men LOVED, and respected our women . Now days people are singing about filthy vulgar junk.
Tony williams the lead singer and very barotone voice
Any footage of the Flamingos singing Lovers Never Say Goodbye, circa 1958?

I thought Freddie of Queens band is the originator of this song. Wow I feel soo proud to be black and African
I've recently read two of Redd Foxx's biographies, and was amazed to find out Beverly Harris of the Harris sisters (sister of his 2nd wife Betty Jean Harris) was once in the group. Please, do you have the Redd Foxx A&E biography episode? I can't find it anywhere, not even to buy. Thank you for the upload and please keep up the good work!
Love it! Would like some Clive Mcphater please?
Zola Taylor ❤
