Hello and welcome to my challenge for 2024 and my biggest challenge to date:
The Platinum Project PlayStation 2
My journey to try and find all 256 Platinum Games released for the PlayStation 2 in the Pal region.
But with a twist, I am trying to find all 256 of these games before the end of 2024, 256 games, 365 days, let the games begin!
So what are the rules for this challenge? That’s easy, there is no rules! I will do anything to find these 256 games and complete the Platinum Project PlayStation 2.
We’re starting off with some housekeeping and an update for the PlayStation Platinum Project, with a correction from the last episode.

This time we’re hitting up what I believe is the best town in the U.K. for retro and modern game hunting, kings Lynn, and hitting up charity shops, independent game shops and what I have said historically to be one of the best CEX stores in the whole world, but this hunt doesn’t go to plan….
At the end of the episode we’ll be looking at an issue with this entire challenge and how things are not what they seem…

shame you didnt show more of retro retreat, i absolutely love that store. managed to get FF7 and 8 and first 4 tomb raiders for PS1 all as Black labels there. also shame once was new was closed as they have a good if small collection of games in there, was very tempted by Baldies on PS1 last trip out

You’ll be happy to hear there’s more footage from The Retro Retreat in Saturdays episode. Such a good shop and yeah I was gutted Once was New was closed but a good reason to go back again soon!

I was in whitby this week and travelled to Scarborough. There was a shop called gamepad, the smallest but best game shop i have ever been to. Games just piled up all over the floor, bags of stuff piled up all over the floor up to head height, owner just lets you look through like a carboot. No real till or anything just a giant game jumble, i got twisted metal complete in great condition for ps1 for £45. Vigilante 8 which ive never seen in any shop for £12 plus some other decent games like god of war 2 for trade in price. Also bags and bags of old retro toys.

This is the biggest coincidence ever but I’m actually planning to go there in August as I’ll be holidaying in the same area lol, and had a search around and that was the first shop that popped up, even more excited for my visit now!

The owner said a reseller had been in the week before and brought a massive bundle from the shop to sell at gaming markets to! Some great titles in there especially PS1, games you never see out and about. I've been collecting for years and there were about six rare games id never ever seen in a shop and they were just piled up all over the place not segregated in a special cabinet.

@@DanTheGamesMan I'm gutted I only got half an hour in there, that was just enough time to shift through the PS1 stuff and a small part of the PS2. He said he had more upstairs but I didn't have the time and the stairs were inaccessible as they were covered in bin bags. My favorite kind of shop I hate it when it's all alphabetical and cex priced.

Dan as Joseph Campbell wrote in his book 'A Hero of a Thousand Faces', ''the best adventures are full of twist and turns and surprises''. I feel this is going to happen in the PlayStation 2 Platinum Range Project, really awesome stuff. Can't wait for the next chapter in your quest!

I just checked my platinum copy of Sons of Liberty, and it has just the regular disc (bought it new many years ago), looked on ebay and seems like all the UK ones on there have a regular disc. The only copies that seem to come with a real platinum disc are from other countries, maybe they had a lot of discs left over from the first printing and didnt feel the need to print new ones. Not really sure but I'll keep an eye out to see if I can find out one way or the other.

@DanTheGamesMan yeah tesco, asda and b&m always have good sets around Xmas and also fathers day. I usually buy them as I'm a massive nerd. It's all official branded stuff too

I don’t think I’ve ever seen the NTSC cover, it’s strange how regions have different covers and how call some of the variants are!

@@DanTheGamesMan rare games I have, Luxor, guide louvre, Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux, and yokaiwatch 3, and special edition of fire emblem fates. Games I will not being in pal Shin Megami Tensei apocalypse and over too expensive I buying USA copies of games
