When the animators become actual actors.
1:04 was my favorite part. I really like the kind Go-Pro-like view we get of Woody's facial expressions on the left.

Kind of creepy really.
Notice how at the beginning when they show monitors they're displaying scenes from Toy Story 2 when they cut to the guy animating they act as if he's working on Toy Story 1 when really they just used old footage from the production of Toy Story 1

Karson Gameboy, that’s because most of the Bonus Features were made before and after Toy Story 2’s completion, plus it was weeks before Pixar moved from Point Richmond to Emeryville.
The amount of effort that goes into animation is astonishing. I've done some myself and I can confirm that this is no joke. Also keep in mind that in the end of the video they said that one shot took multiple weeks.

Actually now animators are able to do animation much faster, keep in mind this was the first computer animated film, that means everything was very hard, and there were a lot of mistakes while making it, now animators have found they're way for these and are making animations much faster

Yes, animation is easier now, but keyframe animation hasn't changed and still requires the same amount of effort, even if it is technically improved. Not to mention the new challenges that Disney/Pixar create for themselves every new movie.

What really kills me is the lack of IK controls, doing everything by FK seems like a nightmare. Not to mention their only way of animating was adjusting those numbers in the spreadsheet... wow

@@BuzzKirill3D I was wondering about that, do you know for a fact that they didn't have IK?
I wonder if Pixar still have the original files of the first two THX Tex trailers... Because, they were made at the same time as Toy Story was completed, and it would be awesome to see a 4K remaster of the first two trailers in open matte with the original Lucasfilm Ltd. byline and SGI footer retained.

0:31 that’s Pete Docter! The work opportunities back then were insane.
1:04 That looks creepy 😱
Did anyone else notice jessie and bullseye at 10 seconds? They were clearly already planning ahead
0:20 I am guessing that is a proxy mesh. Someone I know does computer animation for a living, and says these are used to make animation smoother and less labor intensive.
0:13 This is from the intro scene of Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins.
nice info
i knew andys blanket was a normal mapped texture :P
There used rotoscoping animation techniques ?

No need to shout.
That sounds like Tom Hanks.
"Then the animator is refining the animation"....yeah, but how? Did they have IK back then? Did they have something like a pose-mixer or did they always copy&paste all the keys?
I would like to work at pixar making and translating animations
