Last season, Russ had 340 rushing yards last season in 15 games (projects out to 380-400 yards in a full season, and it was on mostly non-designed runs. Russ can do 500 yards for Pittsburgh, and he can surpass 4,200 yards and 35-40 TDs too. In his last healthy season with competent coaching and a lesser surrounding cast (2020), he had 4,212 Yards, 40 TDs, 13 INTs (4 of them WR-influenced), 68.8% Complete, and a 105.1 Passer Rating, and led the Seahawks to 12-4 with the league’s worst defense and no O-Line. That was in a 16-game season, and it was just 3.5 years ago that he finished with those stats (January 2021). He picked up where he left off and began the 2021 season leading the league in passing with a 12:1 TD-INT Ratio, 70% Complete Rate, and 128 Passer Rating until he was injured in game 5 of the 2021-22 season. He really hasn’t been back on top completely since that throwing hand injury, but one horrible coach and another coach who sabotaged him later, this is the first real opportunity he will have to be himself again. He’s not that far removed from Seattle folks.

I'm on board with Russ (and I love Justin), but let's not get carried away with 4200 yards and 35-40 tds. I'll take 3300 yards, 28 tds and 9 int -- roughly a 3:1 td to int ratio -- basically what he did last year -- which is a huge upgrade from Pickett. And if the Steelers can get the OL to play at a consistently high level -- that will carry over into the run game and play action.

The QBs are approaching it like it’s a battle, but Fields is struggling. He has always had accuracy issues and problems reading the defense. Fields reminds me of Cam Newton. That’s his ceiling to me. Here’s the rub: Cam was never as good as Russ, even during Cam’s MVP season, when he won on the strength of his team’s record, btw. Russ outperformed him and carried the Seahawks to that yearns playoffs. People keep saying Justin Fields has “more upside” or “a higher ceiling” than Russ, but they’re never able to explain this. What ceiling does Fields have that Russ doesn’t? Does Fields’s small advantage as a runner compensate for the huge gap in arm-talent and savvy favoring Russ? Remember that Russ rushed for 340 yards last season in 15 games, and those yards were mostly on non-designed runs. Russ can still get 500+ or area, and he’s still a better mover than 80% of the league’s QBs. What do we have? Jackson Fields Hurts Murray Allen Love Jones (???) Taylor (???) Lawrence is a no. Lance isn’t even a starter. Tua is a no. We will see about Caleb, Bryce Young and the rest. Right now, there are six QBs whose mobility you can put above a 35-year-old Russ, and Russ is the LEAST likely to get injured on a run because he runs smarter and protects his body better. So there’s a lower risk high reward with Russ. As for Fields’s “upside”, “higher ceiling,” or whatever, answer the following questions: Based on Fields’s first three years, what is Fields projected to do in his next 10 years that Russ won’t be able to do in the next 5? What will Fields do in his next 10 years that Russ didn’t do over his first 10? All this talk about Fields’s greater upside is nothing but smoke-filled platitude bs, and it’s not supported by any of the evidence. You need something besides “Fields is younger, taller, faster,” otherwise Tom Brady would’ve been dumped for Jacoby Brissett based on two of those factors. 😂 Russ will be the better fit because Arthur Smith’s offense is similar to Pete Carroll’s. Russ has run that offense before. Plus, he just has a higher football IQ, more experience, and resilience that cannot be taught. Not only has Russ come through a lot of cr@p over the last three years, he has had three seasons in which he arguably should e sat out for most or all of those seasons. Yet, he has missed a total of 7 games in his entire 12-year career, and two of those misses were because of Sean Payton’s desire to lose the last two games of the 2023 season and inch up the draft board. He was playing well and fully healthy at the time. In two of the three seasons in which injuries should have kept him out for the year, he either dragged his team into the playoffs (2016) or came close (2021). You guys need to go look at the tapes of Russ back in Seattle. He threw over the middle quite well. At times he might have been reluctant to do it but when he did it he destroyed defenses.

Russ doesn’t fumble a lot at all, and he certainly doesn’t fumble as much as Fields, who is currently on pace to fumble in excess of 150 times over a 12-year period with 44 lost. Russ over his 12 years had 103 with 32 lost, and he hasn’t had nearly as good protection as Fields and suffered a throwing hand injury in the early 2021 season that took him 6-8 months to fully recover from. So no, Russ doesn’t fumble the way Fields fumbles, which is 50% more frequently! Fields hasn’t done a single thing to demonstrate that he’s even franchise QB material, let alone good enough to unseat a guy like Russ. *Justin Fields’s 3-Year Career Stats (advantaged metrics in boldface* Pass attempts: 958 Pass completions: 578 Completion%: 60.3% TD-INT: 40-30 Passing yards: 6,674 Passer rating: 82.3 *Rushing yards: 2,220* (vs. 1,327) *Rushing yards/yr: 740* (vs. 442) *Rushing TDs: 14* (vs. 7) *Rushing attempts: 356* (vs. 245.5) *Rushing y/a: 6.2* (vs. 5.4) Sacks: 135 Sacks/yr: 45 Yards lost: 908 Yards lost per sack: 6.7 Fumbles: 38 (11 Lost) On pace for 152 fumbles over 12 seasons with 44 lost. Russ is superior in every other department. That small rushing advantage isn’t nearly enough to compensate for Russ’s superiority as a passer, especially if we discuss 4th quarter metrics. If wediscount Russ’s Denver years, Russ’s 3-year average stats would be better than Fields’s by an even larger margin, even if we include two injury years in Seattle (2016 and 2021) that produced outlier statistics. While both take a lot of sacks, Russ has taken them due to bad/inconsistent O-Lines and pure stubbornness on his part. Fields takes them more because he isn’t a great reader of defenses. His O-Lines have been better than Russ’s. _______________________________________________ *Russ’s Career Statistics* Pass attempts: 5,665 Pass completions: 3,668 Completion%: 64.7% TD-INT: 334-106 Passing yards: 43,653 Passer rating: 100.0 Rushing yards: 5,307 Rushing yards/yr: 442 Rushing TDs: 29 Rushing attempts: 981 Rushing y/a: 5.4 Sacks: 527 Sacks/yr: 43.9 Yards lost: 3,464 Yards lost per sack: 6.57 Fumbles: 103 (32 Lost) Career 4th quarter passer rating: 104 *Keep in mind that Russ’s career statistics include two subpar years in Denver.* Both years skew Russ’s stats negatively, especially 2022, when he threw just 16 TD passes and missed two games.

Honestly, I don’t know why you keep making videos on this team that I am a diehard fan of the Steelers when honestly no offense I love your videos, but you keep saying the same thing every week about how we need to add another wide receiver. This is a good core group of wide receivers that we have. None of these players have the opportunity to play together for you to sit here and say we need this. We need that they already said they’re not going to get a superstar wide receiver. We have plenty of wide receivers that can reach that superstar level. The Steelers don’t need to be great to win a Super Bowl the Steelers don’t need to be great to be better than what we were last year so I keep saying this and I will continue to say it to you understand the Pittsburgh Steelers do not need a great wide receiver. We have wide receivers on our roster that are all fully capable of being a wide receiver too just because they didn’t do what they were supposed to do with their previous teams their last year on that team before moving to the Steelers, doesn’t mean anything when they’re on a brand new team. What do you not understand about that.
