The Pioneers - Let Your Yeah Be Yeah (Official Audio)
Музыка
Official audio for the Pioneers' 1971 UK chart hit
Written by celebrated Jamaican-born singer Jimmy Cliff, ‘Let Your Yeah Be Yeah’ provided vocal trio, the Pioneers (Jackie Robinson, George Agard and Sydney Crooks) with their first UK chart since their 1969 breakthrough single, ‘Long Shot Kick The Bucket’.
Produced by the group, along with the assistance of Chalk Farm Studios sound engineer, Vic Keary, the record entered the British Top 50 on 31 July 1971, eventually climbing to Number 5 on 11 September of that year.
Partially inspired by Matthew 5:37, which states, "But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil”, the song was covered by US rock band Brownsville Station whose version reached 57on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1973.
Since then it has been recorded by Jimmy Cliff himself, as well as a number of other performers, most notably UB40's Ali Campbell whose 1995 cut reached Number 25 in the UK in 1995.

LET YOUR YEAH BE YEAH LYRICS
Written by Jimmy Cliff
You keep telling me yes, but you don't mean it
You keep telling me no and try to lean it
You're giving me buts and maybes
You know this will drive me crazy
Why can't you tell it like it is?
Let your yeah be yeah and your no be no, now, baby
Let your yeah be yeah and your no be no, now, mama
Because I'm on my guard and I'm watching you from head to toe
You'd better let your yeah be yeah and your no be no
You wear a plastic smile, I know by your eyes
You speak with indefinite style, you're telling me lies
You've got to face reality
What is wrong with you and me
Why can't you free your honesty
Let your yeah be yeah and your no be no, now
Let your yeah be yeah and your no be no, now
Because I'm on my guard and I'm watching you from head to toe, so
You better let your yeah be yeah and your no be no
You keep telling me yes, but you don't mean it
You keep telling me no and try to lean it
You're giving me buts and maybes
You know this will drive me crazy
Why can't you tell it like it is?
Let your yeah be yeah and your no be no, now
Let your yeah be yeah and your no be no, now, oh
Because I'm on my guard and I'm watching you from head to toe, so
You'd better let your yeah be yeah and your no be no, no

Had to come and listen to this. I was 6 in 1971, and my Mum used to listen to it all the time when she was doing housework. She passed away yesterday aged 82. I need these memories

Wow, this took me back in my two tone suit and my black platform shoes and the skin heads with their doc martens. Skinheads used to love the reggae culture back then.. memories❤
It's tunes like this that make Trojan records such an important label.

Unfortunately,I never frequented the Cambridge Pub.guess I missed a great vibe!
funny story,, i found this song on my grandparents’ reggae vinyl which is now in my possession due to me getting a new record player, and their’s being long gone. i found i loved the song, and with the soft crackle of the vinyl really gave it an aged feel. anyway, just thought i’d share because i’m glad that the vinyl record i took home wasn’t thrown away, and i got to discover more wonderful music!

Yes..those were the days...the '70s!!!! I remember that when I played in a band then , I wore platform shoes , bell-bottom pants , floral shirts , and sported an Afro Hairstyle ...with a Jimi Hendrix-type of cap ! Roll on '70's !!!

Damnnnnnn that was the outfit then.
Reminds me when a group of us (all teenagers) hired a canal boat for week and got hammered every day. This song got to number 2 in the charts behind T Rex!
Takes me back to my youth on the streets of Hulme and Moss Side in early 1970's Manchester , this version by the Pioneers is by far the BEST version of this great reggae song ..... the only version that even gets anywhere close to this is the song writers version, Jimmy Cliffs excellent effort.

Let Your Yeah Be Yeah The Pioneers Vous n’arrêtez pas de me dire : « Oui » Mais vous ne le pensez pas Vous n’arrêtez pas de me dire « Non » Et essayez de l’appuyer Tu me donnes des mais et peut-être Vous savez que cela va me rendre fou Pourquoi ne pouvez-vous pas le dire comme il est? Title song for Brownsville Stations's hit LP "Yeah!", 1973, Written by Jimmy Cliff.
Let your Yea Nah be a Nah Yeah!
Their name actually came about when they met at a Jamaican Independence Day (6th Aug.1970) contest in May Pen to see how much salt fish pie the contestants could fit into their ear holes. True story.
