The Pigeon (1969) | Sammy Davis, Jr. Offbeat Detective Movie RARE
Фильм және анимация
"He's been beaten up, almost run over by a car, accused of an inter-racial romance, and beaten up again... all for a client he doesn't even have." -- TV guide ad for The Pigeon,
#####
From The ABC Movie of the Week Companion: A Loving Tribute to the Classic Series By Michael Karol
The Pigeon, November 4, 1969 Sammy Davis Jr. (yes, "The Candy Man" himself) stars as a hip private eye on the trail of a missing girl who doesn't want to be found. With Dorothy Malone, Pat Boone, Patsy Kclly, and Ricardo Montalban. The MOTW casting directors sure knew how to come up with eclectic ensembles, to say the least. A press release described the movie as "a story of mystery and humor" with Davis as "a private investigator who takes on Dorothy Malone and her daughter, Victoria Vetri as clients when they are harried by a 'syndicate' leader, played by Ricardo Montalban. A bit of off-bear casting has singer Pat Boone playing Sammy's duplicitous partner. • Vetri's exotic looks served her well as Miss September 1967; in 1968 she was chosen Playmate of the Year.

We love and miss you, dear Mr. Sammy Davis, Jr. You remain with us always through your amazing contribution to the world of entertainment and humanity itself.
30 plus years of watching and listening to police /detective procedural dramas, and seeing Sammy in the lead role. No way I am not going to watch any more of these after this. Thank You!
Sammy Davis Jr. A man of multitude of talents. Dancing, singing, acting and player of the drums. My surname is Davis also. Along with Miles Davis. Talented black men that makes me proud and honoured to share their name..

WOW !!! I was in shock to find this on KZread. I've been searching to find this for YEARS !!! Always remembered it when I was a kid watching it with my Dad. Haven't seen it since then til now. Thanks so much for posting this. Sammy Davis Jr. has always been a top 10 fav entertainer of mine. I gotta ask...since you got this rare find, let us fans know if you can get the 70's BAREFOOT IN THE PARK television series with Scoey Mitchell and the fine Tracy Reed. That would be great ! Thanks again and all the best.
The multi talent, Sammy Davis Jnr 🫡

I Like and Love Sammy Davis Jr and this movie a great assortment of actors
I have never seen this movie before, it was before my time, but I really enjoyed watching it. I like the one liner jokes in the movie, very funny🤣😂😆😅. Good movie.👍
You put Sammy's name in the subject line and I'm there. I am biased being a member of the Mastin family but, Sammy is the G.O.A.T. I'm pretty sure Frank had him in the Rat Pack because he'd rather be with him than against him in the industry. At his 60th anniversary special Michael Jackson sang a song "Because of You" directly to Sammy because he did open the doors for a lot black artists following him. Yes there were other prominent black artist at the time but, Sammy was one of the first to be able to walk in the front door of where he performed. I am fortunate enough to hold a Golden Key to his gravesite at Forest Lawn and try to visit whenever I'm in L.A. I never even knew of this movie so thank you very much for posting.
Ah! DOROTHY MALONE. I remember the scene in "Peyton Place" (TV) when Dorothy Malone tells Mia Farrow who Allison's real father is. Mia was a big sensation then so the director placed her in the foreground and stuck Oscar-winner Malone in the background. Malone had been in the business for 25 years by then. From the background, she took command of the scene and gave a riveting, old-Hollywood style, star-turn performance that always brings tears to my eyes. You never even notice Mia simpering in the foreground. Dorothy Malone! When the material was there, she always delivered the goods!
Good acting Sammy💗...Thank you for posting.
Ricardo Montalban. "YOUR TIMING'S LOUSY! AND SO IS YOUR OFFER!" Wipes mouth WITH napkin in PURE DISGUST. LOVE it.😆

A rare and a very good 1969 detective movie!!
Sammy was in another Spelling production, when he guest starred on "Charlie's Angels" as both himself, and a funny lookalike. Thanks for posting.

This is another of the the MOVIES made during this ERA in BLACK AMERICAN FILMS where ch was CALLED then he BLACK FILM EXSPOTATION ERA , bit like a lot of those MOVIES made during that ERA when against the GRAIN of that ERA. SAMMY DAVIS was always oneof the most VERSITA ENTERTAINERS He didn't d it ALL STAGE , FILM SONG , DANCE anything to do will ENTERTAIN PEOPLE he did it and did it to to POINT he was WORLD RENOWN for it . This is ONE of a VOLUME of WORK he did ENTERTAINMENT. So many of this MOVIES during this ERA were made for the SMALL SCREEN of TELEVISION without MAJOR RELEASE to the THEATRES . There are still AVAILABLE though to YOU though OTHER SOURCES . If LOVE GOOD MOVIES some of the BEST BLACK FILMS made were done during this ERA of BLACK AMERICA FILMAKNG .YOU should RESEACH it YOU be SURPRISED at what YOU find there .
I enjoyed this. I'm glad he got some hits in though, because the first few fights made him look like he ain't have no hands lol

Why didn`t Sammy make a copy of the diary.
I like this movie who Sammy Davis Jr who was polish speaker but at same time was honest of racist environment of the 1960s of what African Americans go though, while Mr. Davis go beyond what white America expect of black people limited opportunity in the LAND OF THE FREE AND HOME OF THE BRAVE.

I just know of Mr. Davis sing Jazzy music and did some comedy with three white guys kwon as The Rat Pack but I did not know he act in serious movie as detective back in the 1960s. It seem like the only black actor back in the 1960s was Sidney Portlier. To me I think he is one of the best but you could not tell me that there was no other African American actors before the 1970s.

He is cool actor but the only thing I do not like about Sammy Davis Jr. is that he smoke to much in the movie. I guess in those days people smoke to much in the 1960s.
@kidmack3556

More young people smoke cigarettes and cigars nowadays than they did in the 1970's... I don't know when the last time that I saw an anti tobacco announcement on television... Starting in the late 1960s, the anti-smoking ads were plentiful on television, but the tobacco industry ruled in magazines and billboards.
