This is, by far, the best video of OverSimplified. Sometimes I open and listen the ending bit just to get motivation.

oversimplified is one of 2 people i know who has taught people history in a way that actually engages the learners. the other is my 8th grade history teacher who had us do skits and many other things as a way of showing what we learned, but his teaching style was also pretty good seeing as it was inclusive to just about all types of learners, whether they be hands on or wall of text learners

I like these smaller stories because they're both funny little tidbits of history filled with comedy and are also able to teach us about much larger parts of history, like the War of The Bucket teaching us about the Holy Roman Empire, or this talking about Westward Expansion, it's pretty neat.

youve helped this dropout more than you could ever know. thank you oversimplified, i truly love these and need more.

(I'm American) You are right about other nations getting involved. Heck, they might even settle their troops on Canada border as a joint military directly on top of the US. This is interesting lmao. I'm giving it too much thought 🤣

1 year later i would definitely love to see one of your videos centered on some kind of big event in Canadian history (we don't really get our history talked about much) but we have had some major events in our history that is worth talking about.

As someone who was born in the city the Hudson Bay company abandonded, I loved this video. I always knew about the pig war, but it's good to see all the specifics (like I didn't realize that it was just before the civil war). It was classic local politics almost overriding national concern. The whole 'straight line' boarder leads to one very bizarre location: Point Roberts, Washington. A tiny pennisula cut off from the rest of the US by Canada. If you want to drive there from the US, you have to enter British Columbia. The boarder crossing at Point Roberts includes handing you a map of the whole pennisula with all the gas stations and the 2 restaurants marked. The major economic driver of Point Roberts is selling cheap gas to Canadians. (So Point Roberts would be really sad if we invaded Canada:). Side note: I was quite stoked to see that the Hudson Bay Company still exists and is now a major department store.
