The Physiology of Tree Response to Drought

Recorded on April 17, 2018
Speaker: Rebecca Montgomery, University of Minnesota Department of Forest Resources
Drought is common in Minnesota, and can frequently lead to direct and indirect effects ranging from growth decline to secondary insect and disease damage that can be pronounced and widespread. Trees have developed a wide range of physiological adaptations to ward off these damaging effects associated with drought. We will review key adaptations relevant to silviculture, forest ecology and natural resource management. Turning our focus to practical applications, we will discuss management strategies that could help mitigate the effects of climate change-induced environmental stress on tree growth and forest productivity, broadly define
