The Phenomenal Growth of China, Vietnam, & Laos

Музыка

China, Vietnam, and Laos are growing at a phenomenal rate. At the same time, these countries are reducing poverty at a rate that appears to defy global trends. Although these countries are dominated by Marxist parties, they have developed an economic model that is a hybrid of capitalism and socialism. This lectures helps us understand what it is that they are attempting to accomplish in light of Lenin’s work on the New Economic Policy.
Lecture delivered at Diyal Singh College faculty seminar.

I've gotten 49 years old now, back in past while I was studying in Karachi university my main subjects were English literature, International relations and history. Due to bad circumstances of Karachi and political conflicts between different parties, most of the students couldn't complete their studies. it kept me with grief all those years, but after listening lectures of this humble and knowledgeable professor, I've once again started to get in depth answers of my questions which I wanted to know and explore during my student life. But remember one thing all these knowledge brings happiness in our earthly life, for happiness in the life of hereafter we will have to consult Quran and make and maintain relation with Allah as our creator and Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam as our guide. May Allah show and keep all of us on right path. Ameen.

Taimoor Sahib it's a very humble request and would be much appreciated if you could make the a video lecture on "World Without Money." Discussing the challenge that money is the reward that motivation for new invention, and other related aspect. I can not understand the fact that a piece of cotton and linen inked with symbols holographic stripe with a claim that it is issued on with a value of GDP foreign reserves metals like gold and silver. We can see in history the inventors like Nikola Tesla, never had the greed for money, but did it all for the sake of his passion. Many inventors talents are wasted because they can not find a investor who thinks that the invention cannot make them profit. There are people who cannot achieve their dreams, as the system forces them to achieve it via money.

Thanks a lot Prof Saab, this was an enlightening lecture on history of these economic systems. I would love to see a follow up on the next phase of State Capitalism evolving into socialism in China (prediction and pathway). Do we have any example of such evolution from past?? Second question is how innovation or growth happens in state capitalism and socialist model. Does govt institutions run enterprising business and biz development plans and bet on them? It’s one thing to take successful companies or assets and nationalize them, quite a different to run successful ventures decades after decades. And also come up with something entirely new like software or internet etc. how that enterprising engine is gonna work, when private wealth power and decision making is completely off the table?? Again, do we have any comparable example of that in socialist counties or history? Thanks.

Not like fawad chaudri is the science and technology minister and zartaj gul is the environmental minister. To make a prosperous pakistan will always be a dream. One of my friend commented on it when I shared this video, I would like to hear you on it, he says - He seems to be drawing a parallel between the NEP practised by Lenin and path currently followed in China, where Taimur Rahman thinks that political power is still with proletariat which is controlling and managing capitalism. Questions are whether working class is the ruling class or an exploited class whose labour is exploited for earning profit. Also the role of China investing in other underdeveloped countries where it appears to be an imperialist power, needs to be discussed and understood .

Whole lecture in a nutshell: "Communism can't be established without Capitalism." Whole lecture in a summary: "Marx writes socialism is cool capitalism sucks. Wants to create Communism(society where everybody's equalized) via Socialism by nationalizing productions(state ownership). Lenin becomes a Commi and established a Communist government(1917) in Russian Empire, initially bought Communism( war Communism) but rebellions and lack of production occured which led to his plan 'B' to bring Communism step by step and in these steps include many versions of Capitalism. Thus bringing Capitalism in 1922 (NEP), and because Lenin used Capitalism to transform it into Socialism then it is also justified for East Asian Communist countries to have some sort of controlled or free capitalism." These are my observations.

No. Wolf’s thesis is that Soviet Union never achieved socialism because the decisions regarding the economy were taken by a the state economic planning. Whereas Lenin is clearly saying that there are 5 sectors - the last being a socialist sector. The debate with Wolff and Resnick is about the character of this last sector. Also interestingly, while Wolff and Resneck consider cooperatives as the basis of socialism, you can see that Lenin calls peasant cooperatives as state capitalist. These ideas are completely the opposite of each other. But you have to dissect these things to see it.
