I met a man a couple of days ago who was the official photographer for a local railway project, it's reinstating a line that closed in the 1960s. I'd gone to see the rail laying machine in action. Impressed, I asked him how he had got the job, and he told me he had 50 years experience with the railways, 30 years as a railway journalist, and all the paperwork to say he knew how to be safe on the railway. He was certainly doing what he loved and had been for years; great!

Loved the deep and meaningfuls. Weird thing is I've come to the same conclusion. I've found that I'm at my happiest when I've got a camera in my hand, but all of the worry of "My God I've got bills How the hell am I going to manage this and keep taking pictures?" really limited me. So last year, I just decided to just go for it and worry about it later. It was absolutely bloody amazing how things lined up from that point. It was like the universe aligned and one thing fell into my lap after another. Everything was done on a really tight budget, but that just lead to new ways of looking at things and new ways of making things work. I even ended up getting to shoot in The Riverside Museum (formerly the Glasgow Transport Museum) which was something I'd been wanting to do for years. The bills still got paid, but I was happier than I've been in decades.

I started into photography knowing that it was commercially viable, meaning I felt that I'd have a good chance of supporting myself with it, but I didn't start for the money itself. I've never had the notion that a house, car, or boat was going to somehow satisfy me. I think just having the freedom to take on challenges as I find and choose them is what keeps me interested in life. Right now at least, running a photography business does that on it's own, and I'm sure it will continue to. The only financial milestone I'm really concerned with hitting is reaching a point where I don't have to watch the bills or look at pricetags as far as buying food, clothes etc. If I can make enough to know I can safely go home somewhere, I can do whatever else I want!

Although I agree you should do what you love, or at least find parts of what you are doing/working at that you love, just remember not to trust your "emotional" memory too much. We remember the trama's more they the good times. Just part of being human, thanks again for the hour of entertainment and inspiration.

Because of Karaoke I was lucky enough to sing with many bands through the years..I got to sing with Little River Band at 2 different shows... I have been working on doing photography for me now and setting up a home studio so I can sing and do photography both...

Stereo for KZread is probably it’s audio limit. Have heard a few KZreadrs use stereo. 5-channel audio is impressive for some movies, (like when there are plane / jet fly-overs, might be not useful for KZread.

Many thanks for this new podcast video! I think I un-subscribe this channel by mistake today (?) Do you see how social networks and I must deal with each other? Anyway, I am back. @Bec: If you leave the channel, I am telling you that will mean the end of this public internet channel. @Peter: Please congratulate your Wife, from my side, for her birthday. @Bec&@Peter: I am glad you enjoyed the concert, in such an amazing spot. Did I properly understand that you were invited by them? @Peter: I don’t know very well the e-commerce and fashion/art industries, but the way you describe them and compare them reminds me those ancient cultures that brought art to the highest, those civilizations that defined art rules that are still valid today and they will never expire, but unfortunately when those civilizations were conquered by more powerful ones (better army) they destroyed their art and they brought a kind of poor art; and it took several centuries to restore it. Are we in a similar case? Is e-comerce destroying fashion/art because they provide more business? More money I mean. A shame to the human race, once again. @Peter&@Bec: I know that people usually like to watch movies from famous actors/actresses, but in my case, I am more attracted by those ones that are not that known so that I can have a more impartial experience. @Bec: The Sun is just reminding you that He has sufficient authority to decide whether to bright more or less. BTW: I love nature, but I don’t worship it. @Bec&@Peter: A few years ago, a visited a (real) farm with hundreds of lambkins. After than day, I decided I will never eat mammals again. I was a personal decision because I don’t like to make one conditional to the others. @Peter: It looks like UK photographers are the smarter ones. @Peter: Teaching others, passing your knowledge to others is great, but as you say, you also need time your yourself, otherwise sooner or later you will be “empty”. @Bec: I don’t play videogames because I usually lose. @Peter: I understand those photographers that have the urgency to make money out of their photographs. In my case I don’t have that pressure, so I just expect to please my eyes. @Peter: I would be only (and only) interested in photographing a Model if she feels pleasure by exposing herself. @Peter: You won, I have noticed the stereo sound and it is really good, because this gives the podcast more realistic. @Bec&@Peter: I think the transparency in your personal and professional relationships is priceless; it should be followed by others as an example. I don’t think I will be able to be like you are, it would be very difficult for me. @Bec: I think it was a good decision to select the PA job not for the money itself. I am glad you don’t believe in the “money rules” principle. @Peter: In the previous podcast you said that you worked as a sound engineer and now you have mentioned again. Did you also work on that? @Peter: I accidentally watched, in the past, that movie. In my case I don’t need to watch that kind of movies, because I have a lot of imagination, for good and (unfortunately) also for bad. @Peter: By helping others in photography, you redeem yourself. I think telling others about your experience, your self-learning, is a very efficient teaching methodology. @Peter&@Bec: You both have a very good coordination with your own words. I wish I could have the same communication skills. @Bec: Spending the weekend for other activities, to disconnect from the daily job, is very healthy. @Peter: You shouldn’t retire now; you have many followers. @Bec: … what skills do your feet have? @Peter&@Bec: I don’t have OF account. @Peter: Me, on a boat, would be one of the funniest things you could ever see, throwing up continuously.
