The "they want somebody that everybody wants" part is true, to different levels tho. In school I hanged out with a group of 6 girls, I liked one of them but she didn't like me. I asked an adult friend, who always had women flirting with him, what his secret was and he told me he didn't have big talents but was always amicable to everybody so girls always were around him in a friendly way, but girls interpreted that, between them, as he being a desirable man. So I applied the advice by hanging with another girl from my group and then the girl I liked started paying me attention. It was working but when I compared the rejection in the past to the ways she looked at me now, everything felt fake and I just dropped it. About a month later I met another girl from my school through mutual friends. We chatted, had a good connection and then she asked if I was that one guy who hanged out with that group of 6 girls. Guess where we ended up.

@@son7459 the fakeness I talked about was particularly from the girl in the story; I felt that she only wanted something with me to improve her status among the group but not a real relationship. Maybe the field was too narrow and that's why the other girl, who wasn't in my direct group of friends, didn't feel pressure-y about anything and therefore more real or "raw" (don't know if it's the right word, english not my native language). In general sense; I wouldn't reject a girl that approached me based on something she saw from the outside because that's the only way when you don't know someone, it's normal you completely base your movements on your instinct at the beginning because you have no idea about what's on the other person's mind. If girls approach you for whatever reason, give them a chance freely; to go anywhere further, measure them. If girls approach you for any reason means they're attracted to you, only getting to know them will tell you what they wanna do with that attraction they feel and from there both of you have to set a destination. That's what first dates are for. And fakeness may seem wrong but if you and the girl want that, go for it; I don't predict a long relationship but it won't be wrong if both want the same, and you can always prove people wrong/redirect where your relationship is going. However, hoping the last paragraph helped you, I've got to tell you my story on OP was more than 15 years ago. People were quite different back then. The old ways still worked like a love letter or having a gift sent to the girl you liked, along the new ways like messaging or social media (which were separate things back then). The main difference was that no ideology whatsoever was being pushed through the internet like it is nowadays so there was different kind of rulers to measure each kind of person; today either you have rizz or you don't. Back then there wasn't alphas, betas or sigmas so if somebody liked somebody, they would just go for it. Today people measure things according to the "clout" it would give them to the point of ignoring their own desires. I had some girlfriends that were way out of my league and they knew, but they went along anyways because they wanted to and there wasn't a word or a unit of measurement through they could see me as too different. It's just facts. Being vulnerable, self-aware and accepting of own faults are all fine qualities, but they don't mean much on their own. The question is, what are you doing about it? If your whole schtick is "haha, I am such an awkward guy" - that's not appealing. One of the defining traits of masculinity is self-improvement. If you are not working on improving your faults and simply choose to live with them, you are not appealing to most women.
