    Sheesh. The _P3_ manga sounds like it makes Aigis's damage cry into "my arc!" from "my armor!" given how poorly she apparently gets conveyed despite basically being the second _P3_ main character.

    I'd say the movies did it even worse. They pretty much casted Yukari, Akihiko and Mitsuru aside to shoehorn a bastardized clingy version of Aigis into the spotlight. Just check how much they screwed over the Yakushima hug scene in the second movie.

    @@GaeaRage0798 I wonder if the movies and stage plays were trying to heavily ship the two characters together since that's what it seemed like while in the game, they heavily ship him with Yukari. FeMC had the same thing happened to her, but at least it's not as bad. In case you don't know, if you had played through her route in Portable, there are certain parts where it seems to ship her with Akihiko. But in the Persona 3 stage plays (There's two versions of them. One that stars the male protagonist and the other stars the female protagonist), the version that stars her, they instead heavily ship her with Shinjiro and pretty much made him into her love interest for the stage plays. So, yeah, this is a problem with the two P3 protagonists, while with the 4 and 5 protagonist, they at least have clear canon love interests while sometimes, other girls do take interest in them. Though with Ren, the anime adaptation made things, questionable, especially if you have seen the Valentine's Day special.

    @@spydersoup8447 I mean, I they wanted to prevent Aigis/Shinjiro fans from being upset with the movies/stage play for having shipping scenes with Yukari/Akihiko, then just stay neutral and don't favor a ship over the other, that way everybody wins. But instead of that, every occasion I watched the movies' unfaithful Yakushima, my reaction is always quoting Green Goblin's "I offered you friendship, and you spat in my face", while also struggling with the urge to crash my head against a wall, commit sepuku and jump from my room's window.

    You bring up how the characters are together in their development in P3 and I think this goes into how they were able to have their development and stories go all throughout the story of P3 compared to in P4 where they have a problem with keeping everyone relevant. Everyone has a sort of partner, Aigis and Minato can be paired together due to their connection with Death and the Moonlight Bridge (especially if you watch the P3 Movies), Yukari and Mitsuru have the fact that their dads are connected to the Kirijo Group and the start of the Dark Hour later bonding after Mitsuru loses her dad, Akihiko and Ken both deal with the loss of a loved one (Aki's sister and Ken's mom) and have connecting point in Shinjiro, Junpei and Fuuka don't really connect and Junpei mostly has his shit with Chidori. But, this shows how they all are kind of paired together so you don't need big individual plots for all party members. But these only came to be due to one unifying theme. The fact that the Persona 3 cast is way more aware of Shadows and Personas helps this plot a lot, because it gives them an external threat to face and it gives them massive history. Mitsuru and Yukari's dads were researching them, the whole shit with Shinji happens b/c his Persona went berserk, the drama with Chidori is all due to Persona/Shadow BS, and then there is Death who is...you know. Compare this to P4 and P5 who, while they have their issues, the cast mostly are dealing with simple drama that isn't some big thing you can do. This is also why I take P3 the most seriously, they are way more experienced with Shadows and have a massive corporation funding them compared to a bunch of kids winging it. Now, this doesn't mean you can't make some kind of connecting plot with them. My idea with how you can pair them up would be Yosuke and Teddie (Junes bros), Chie and Yukiko (BFFs), and Kanji and Naoto (Brains and Brawn, plus gender issues). Now the question is, what do they do? Teddie is relevant due to the mystery of what he is and him learning his humanity, Naoto is consistent throughout b/c she is a detective working the case, and Yosuke is kind of the mouthpiece for Yu when he isn't given a speaking role. But wtf would Chie, Yukiko, and Kanji's story-wide plot be? Maybe have Yu meet some of the other characters earlier? Have Naoto already be in Inaba after the double murders and show up during the Yukiko arc, see Kanji walking around school, hell maybe Rise is already there just in disguise or even under a fake name which then gets revealed when her arc starts. Also, one thing that P3 did was introduce a lot of characters early. At the beginning of the game you pretty much immediately meet Mitsuru, Akihiko, Junpei, and Yukari, then a bit later you get a cutscene showing Shinji. That is 5 out of the 8-9 party members you meet (not counting the MC or Koromaru). Just because they aren't in the party doesn't mean you can't meet them and get to know them. Compare this to P4 and P5. In P4 you start with Yu, Yosuke, Chie, and Yukiko (although she is sort of on the side due to being the first victim), and immediately meet Teddie in the TV world (although he's kind of stuck there until much later into the game so he isn't out in the real world). That's 4 out of 7. In P5, you start with Ruiji and Morgana, then get Ann a week into the game, Makoto is introduced during the Yusuke arc (not to the characters but to the player) but she kind of gets a lot of focus on the plot (her sister being the prosecutor against the thieves, being the main brains of the team, and being kind of Joker's main love interest that the story pushes, so there is a bit of story-bias towards her). Everyone is pretty much introduced one at a time when we need to pretty much get a plot going for like 7-8 characters. tl;dr: P3 did the character plots aka kept them relevant throughout the story by A. pairing up characters, B. having the characters already know/be into shadow/persona situations before the plot happens (or at the very least have something serious to act as the external threat), and C. introduced most of the main/playable cast immediately at the start.

    "supplementary material" is a bad term to use here, since it would imply the lack of main info and wouldn't stand on its own by definition. An "adaptation" like this manga, though, shouldn't need the game to make people understand its main information; it completely defeats its purpose since whoever played the game already got a more detailed version of the story. This is also a problem that the movies have, partially, since they skip on certain key information and only focus on the most essential elements. P4 The Animation would be the opposite; it was a fantastic adaptation that even managed to insert certain Social Links and scenes in a unique way and as a result it's a great watch for both P4 veterans and first timers.

    @@thegamerfe8751 I think the latter bit was done because of how people rather ship the main character with Aigis and not with Yukari like the game likes to do, which the fans didn't like her for acting like how a teen girl would normally act in real life and having anger and stress issues. To make it clear, I'm not against the people who don't like Yukari, Bubbletea made a video on that topic and he perfectly sums up my view on this whole thing. The female protagonist from Persona 3 Portable had the same thing happen for the Persona 3 stage plays, though at least it's not as bad. People like to ship her with Shinjiro and while I really do like this shipping and I do like Shinjiro as a character, in fact, he's my second favorite boy in the game, it's just that they really like to make the fans happy since in the stage plays, they pretty much made him into her love interest, but in the game, there are barely any shipping scenes between FeMC and Shinjiro, aside from maybe the Social Link, but in the game, both in other Social Links and the main story, there's a lot more shipping scenes with Akihiko than with Shinjiro. Yeah, I get that the adaptations are meant to be different retellings of the story, but it feels almost like the writers of the movies and stage plays want to please the people going with this person they like than with the one the game ships them with the most.

    @@spydersoup8447 You summed it up perfectly, and the biggest issue is that it doesn't just affect Yukari it also changes the story by a lot in some parts (for the worse) and adding to that it's going completely against how Persona always was ever since the second game that was released back in 2001 (if I recall correctly), there is never a canon ship and whoever the writers were, they were forcing a ship on non Makoto X Aigis fans (though I have to say that even though I don't belong to that ship group, even if I were the story would have still been worse than the one in the game in my eyes). At least if it were in an OVA or something I would have been fine with that but they changed the main story.

    Although I agree with you about the chronological issues of the manga, personally, I prefer how it makes a better balance between each character's arcs, instead of trying to turn a flanderized version Aigis into the Center of the Universe (glaring at the P3 Movies). Also, Yukari is the one I actually view as P3's true deuteragonist.

  • @spydersoup8447

    @spydersoup8447

    Yeah, I get the feeling that the writers of the P3 movies are actually fan pleasers, since a lot of people think Aigis is the true waifu for the protagonist and despite the game heavily shipping the protagonist with Yukari and not Aigis, the fans hate Yukari. Not the usual waifu war arguments, I mean like many people just can't stand her because they say that she's a bitch. Their words, not mine. I'm not against the people who don't like Yukari, Bubbletea made a video on that and he covers pretty much exactly my thoughts on this matter. FeMC had this same exact thing happen to her, but thankfully, it wasn't as bad. Look, I get that the stage plays and animes are meant to be unique retellings of the story from the game, but using these adaptations to make the fans happy that the 4 movies would throw out the person they hate or don't care about in favor of the person they like way more, something they wish the original game would do, it really makes them feel like the Persona 3 stage plays and movies are obviously written by fan pleasers. Or maybe they're those fans themselves, I dunno.

But yeah, most of Aigis' scenes in the movies are the epitome of fanservise (not the ecchi one) at it's maximum extent, and honestly, I still can't freakin' stand it. In fact it's one of the big reasons why I used to despise Aigis, until I realized it's just somebody else's interpretation of the character, and not exactly the actual one, pretty much like the spin-off versions of Akihiko, Chie and Teddie.

    Wow. I had no idea how much of a mess the manga was, and the only thing I knew about it is that the protagonist was named Minato Arisato in there which is the name many fans tend to go with. I was doing research on this wondering how it handled the Kyoto bathhouse incident scene so that I can leave a comment for one KZreadr who was doing an LP of FES at the time and when getting to that part, the outcome he showed first and the one he always goes with and treats it as canon is the outcome of if you get caught and I was explaining to him that it's technically the canon outcome at this point because of how each adaptation of Persona 3 included the scene and ended it with the boys getting caught and receiving an excursion like in the game, and from what I saw, they completely skipped the Kyoto trip and just went from the train trip to S.E.E.S. going back to the dorm. I though it was weird that the anime movies and both versions of the stage plays made sure to include the bathhouse incident scene, but the manga skipped the entire scene completely. Yeah, from watching this video, it now make sense. It's probably best to stick with the stage plays and anime movies from now on, even with the former, it's hard to find translations of them. At least one useful thing came out of it, and that is a preferred name for the P3 protagonist.

If they're worried about that, why not do what the P4 anime adaptation did where there's no legit love interest at all with a few shipping scenes from there and there, but not too major. If the fanbase really want the story to have their best girl or boy be the love interest, why not go play the games yourself or even find an LP of it, you really shouldn't rely on the adaptations to do what you want them to do, it's ridiculous.
