The Periodic Table: Atomic Radius, Ionization Energy, and Electronegativity
Why is the periodic table arranged the way it is? There are specific reasons, you know. Because of the way we organize the elements, there are special patterns that emerge. And you know how Professor Dave feels about patterns. He likes them.

I just want to say thank you! My entire study group has been trying to interpret our professor for weeks now, our test was two days ago, and we learned our entire unit from your videos. We all got A's. We were all sitting around the tv watching your videos as everything just completely fell into place. We must have said, "Oh my god, it's so simple though!" every 3 minutes. Thank you so much! People don't hear that enough, so just to let you know, you are well appreciated.

thanks for asking. I got a B in the class. i did good enough on the final to get a B in the class. I graduated with my associates degree with high honors. I had straight As until I took this chemistry course (I had never taken a chemistry course in my whole entire life yet i thought i should take a level 2 chemistry course like an idiot) so I was about to get a full scholarship to governors state university and i just graduated this may in computer science. I also was able to get a job right after my associate degree with a software development company. had i not had your videos my gpa would have been less than 3.8 and i wouldn't have got my full scholarship that lead to my bachelors.

I also took general chemistry at my Community college. Mainly because my Engineering friend, that was competitive with me in my math classes, was taking it. I quickly came to regret that decision. I had to transfer to a lower intro version of the course because I felt overwhelmed in the first lecture and I just couldn't get interested because I felt like I was just memorizing stuff instead of learning anything. I ended up getting a B on it like you because I put more time in the classes I was actually interested in. It wasn't until I took Quantum Mechanics and I knew where stuff came from, on a more fundamental level, that I got interested in Chemistry. @@JimmyGeniusEllis

A correction at 5:55...Chlorine has a highest electron affinity, there are several exceptions to the Electron Affinity Trend on the periodic table. This is due to the size and charge of the nucleus in relation to the distance of the valence electrons, space in the valence orbital, and the variation of "shielding" or electrostatic force that is imposed on the gained valence electron by inner-shell electrons.
