    Honestly, as one of the earliest members to join neon, I can say that it was one of the most fun and engaging things to work on. Seeing it go from bedrock, to prismatic horizon, to 1.17 neon all the way to the final version was truly an experience on it's own. But I can also say that after about a year, it became one of the most mentally draining things that I've ever done. Just realising after more than a year of work how insanely ambitious it really is was devastating. The demotivation became even worse when it turned more into a adventure map than a prison. I'm lucky tho that I didn't participate in any of the drama and never really read the messages in the discord, I was just there to do redstone. While I still like the complex way of prison building way more, I'm kind of happy it's over. Goodbye Neon Void, it's been a pleasure.

    At 30:29, there's a single frame of braille. "⠍⠽ ⠝⠁⠍⠑ ⠊⠎ ⠕⠵⠽⠍⠁⠝⠙⠊⠁⠎ ⠅⠊⠝⠛ ⠕⠋ ⠅⠊⠝⠛⠎ ⠇⠕⠕⠅ ⠕⠝ ⠍⠽ ⠺⠕⠗⠅⠎ ⠽⠑ ⠍⠊⠛⠓⠞⠽ ⠁⠝⠙ ⠙⠑⠎⠏⠁⠊⠗" Translated, it reads "my name is ozymandias king of kings look on my works ye mighty and despair." This quote is a reference to some century-old poem about an explorer who comes across the ruins of a once great ancient Egyptian civilization. At the entrance to the desolate ruins is a plaque inscribed with the quote from Ozymandias, the pharaoh. The quote seems to tie in heavily with the themes of ambition and inevitable abandon present throughout most of the video. It also doubles as a Technoblade reference, which is cool!

  • @ashley-paul

    @ashley-paul

    3 ай бұрын

    Ozymandias is better known as Ramesses the Great and is widely considered the greatest ruler of Egypt. He lived to be 90 years old, ruled for many decades, ruled over Egypt at its very height, basically won every single military campaign, even features in the Book of Exodus, and his body still survives to this day and sits in a museum in Cairo. I feel like that poem makes it sound like Ramesses was full of hubris and didn't amount to much because one of his statues fell apart, but in reality, I genuinely think he's the one historical figure who truly achieved immortality and had the successes to match his ambition. I don't know if such a parallel can be made with the greatest Pharaoh of Egypt and ultimately a spectacular failure like this project.

  • @fiyesjustfi328

    @fiyesjustfi328

    And yet that isn't what the poem is about. While in a historical sense you're right, the poem is about the inherent hubris of man and how one day it will all be dust. @@ashley-paul

    I'm extremely honored to have been given a chance to work on this project, especially for as long as I did. Although my only truly substantial contribution were those mushrooms in Cell C (and quite a bit of largely unused concept art I guess), that build is by far the one I'm most proud of out of everything I've created. Seeing it used in so many shots in this video felt indescribably amazing. The Neon community has been wonderful to work with and just be around during my time in this project and I've made so many connections though it. I couldn't be more grateful to everyone involved, namely Zenos for starting this monumental project and directly inviting me in the first place, and Kenadian for documenting so much of it into this video. From starting out with absolutely no redstone experience and, admittedly, much too small of a building background to ever be considered for a project of this scale, /literally on an ipad/, to seeing this prison flourish into the unfinished but still marvelous piece of art that it has become, I've never been more glad to work on something so incredible in my life. Thank you, Neon Void, and farewell.

    This video. This video is a combination of my favorite things on youtube. Long videos. Minecraft. Complex redstone machines. Storytelling. Comedic segments mixed in with serious segments. SHORT exposing segments in videos. Bill Wurtz. Beautiful Minecraft builds. Great, wide, covering shots and angles. A clear story. Visuals. References. Explaining complex exploits and glitches and how they're used. Really good voiceovers. PERFECT music choice. Emotional beats. I usually avoid Minecraft Prison videos, but this one really surprised me. It's so, so good. The story is clear and concise. The retelling of events is funny, clear and simple. The way the prisons themselves are shown are VERY well-shot. I would go so far as to say this is among the best Minecraft videos I've ever seen. That list consists of Technoblade's "Potato War 3", FitMC's "The Day 2B2T Almost Died", Doctor4t's Airship video and plenty of other amazing watches. (Don't worry, I don't watch the Dream SMP cast or Lifesteal season whatever or any of those ones. If you do, good on you, keep going.) I will DEFINITELY be rewatching this many, many, MANY times and enjoying it the same each time. Please keep making more videos like these, especially about the bugs, glitches and exploits. Much love.

    hey, I made prison in mc a few years ago and this reminded me to finish it. it includes chunk bans, regenerating walls, death traps to clear your inventory, and keycards for the guards. the goal is to escape as the prisoner while inside the cell and being visited or to break the prisoner out while visiting, it's very intricate and I haven't found a way someone could do either of those yet. if you wanna try just let me know, I'd be interested in seeing how you'd escape. in my opinion it's completely unwinnable.

    I am in no way IN the prison community, but I do find it neat how you all can push minecraft to its limits for the goal of one task, and then push it further to go against that goal. I love the ideologies of both minimalist and redundancy. I dont get how either side is really that much seperated from the other though. You both still build a prison, one just is repeating methods to make sure they work (like a 3rd times the charm). Ones neat for how small it is, one is neat for its scale. Seeing how a person could isolate a group and turn good natured people into ravenous dogs is insane, its like the stuff you'd see in documentaries about behavior or the prisoner experiment. Hope the community can come together as a whole.

    If it's possible, I think a Neon Void with all of the tech removed and JUST THE ARCHITECTURE ALONE could make a really cool CTM map. Hi; I'm from the CTM community. Not a mapper, just a player. For those who forgot the name CTM, it stands for Complete the Monument. Players were tasked to survive in brutal climates in any way possible, take on various dungeons and challenges, all to complete the *Victory Monument,* a pedestal for sixteen wool blocks found only in the dungeons as well as every resource block in the game. Some plans existed to expand the selection to terracotta, concrete, and glazed terracotta, totalling 64 dungeons in a map. Why I bring this up is the fact that CTMs had their own "Neon Void," except it was never a world of Minimalists vs Traditionalists, but it was a different story of overambition. See, CTMs are typically built by one -- maybe two -- people, made using things like WorldEdit, NBTEdit, and command blocks. Redstone is typically left minimal, because CTMs emphasize player creativity -- survive and solve in any way you can within the rules of: - Don't break into developer rooms - Don't craft Victory Monument blocks except for resource blocks. Each map is carefully designed to provide a harsh experience, with fairness not guaranteed, but the game is overall designed to be beatable, with a good selection of anticheeses. Enter Pantheon. Sixteen independent builders collaborated to build the most ambitious CTM to date. The most famous names such as Amlup, Fangire, Vechs... And...it sucked. I was not part of the build team or the testing team, but I could tell that a good few were just trying to one-up each other, trying to be "the ultimate CTM maker." Failures in communication led to things like receiving infinite ender pearls by Purple Wool, which is typically a midgame dungeon that shouldn't give you such a powerful tool, compounded by the fact that Purple Wool was accessible incredibly early. Neon Void made such a similar mistake. Too much ambition, too little organization. Doing things for the sake of doing things. Using certain techniques because it just exists, instead of trying to push the bounds of CTM. To this day the only areas I really like were Black Wool, made by Vechs, and whichever area Amlup made, because both of those areas understood their actual goal -- to build a single area in a CTM resilient enough to deal with whatever wss given beforehand. Vechs used a really interesting technique of swarming the player with bowless skeletons to bog you down from ground-based assaults and aerial ghasts as well as "gunships," or skeletons mounted on blazes, to deter bridging techniques. Ender Pearling was also deterred through the bowless skeletons, while Amlup smoked a fat blunt, fired up WorldEdit, and said, "What if I just make a 3D mess?" and created one of the most mind-bending areas I've seen in a CTM to date. Still, every failed project has its own upsides. Pantheon for instance reallt brought forward the idea of using the Nether Roof as a serious design space, where lava flows further, and more importantly, players can't easily portal-skip into unintended locations or use water buckets. I think the architectural ideas of Neon Void may provide a new world for non-prison maps, instead opening a new set of ideas for custom map makers and CTM players who want to see a revival of the genre.
