    Another little trick when mixing paint is to zero out the mixing cup on a small scale and set the mode to Grams. So a 4:1 mixture would be, for example, 200 grams of paint, then add reducer till the total gram weight equals 250 grams. Doing it this way, you can use any amount of paint and easily calculate the ratio. Pour 392 grams of paint? 392/4 = 98. so add 98 grams of reducer till your total gram weight equals 490 grams. You can do this with any mixing ratio and any quantity of paint, from one ounce, to how ever much your cup can hold.

    Howdy from SW Oklahoma. I used this gun for the first time today based on your recommendation. Sometimes we can’t get these motor home rear caps unless we go salvage yard hunting and crate fees and shipping are into the 1500 range so we do things we have to do and as long as we stand behind our work our reputation stays good! Love your break down of the whole repair! Great job once again! Hope y’all had a great Christmas!! Ps I tape adjacent panels when I spray sealer I feel that trying to cover a haze line in my blend panels causing me to move my base too far into the blend panels. Everything else you did beautiful

    Hi Chris, new subscriber here from the UK, I'm a DIY/Hobby painter doing my thing in my workshop with a homemade booth setup in the corner of my little workshop. Have to say there was some really good info in your video the base went down really flat with that gun and the Upol clearcoat looks really glassy, the Upol clear is not the easiest clear to use so you did an amazing job with it, I'll be watching more of your videos🙏👏👍John UK

    Chris, Just wanted to drop you a quick line to tell you my first paint job went “well”. There is a slight possibility I have a few little runs, and maybe even a sag or two, but I’ve decided to leave it alone and use it as a great learning experience. See, another good this about your videos, I could identify how I screwed up, and what to do to not do it again. I can’t tell you how much I really appreciated your assistance in answering my questions and giving me great tutorials prior to me attempting this project. Once I roll it out and get all the stuff back on it I’ll send you a picture. Again, Thank you so much for everything. YOU ARE THE MAN!!

    I have noticed one thing you do that many will overlook, GN - you max-out on consumables. No other YT channel uses close to the amount of various consumables you do - you have serious bucks into your basic equipment level, you have so many consumables to hand it is incredible - and also totally smart - I swear daily I will stock up on the silly little stuff that makes all the difference to the outcome of a job, but usually forget/wuss out - you don't, hence the success of your projects. You don't use a booth, but boy you do use ALL the stuff that makes painting work - which cancels out the "no booth" thing - kudos on being able to do/being disciplined enough to do that., big respect. People overlook just how much having all the correct materials runs to - a testament to how you're doing business right.

    You laid that clear down nicely. Also its nice to see a KZread painter who understands that you can’t spray to the edge of each panel (because the edge can’t hold as much paint). You should always spray at least a few inches beyond the panel edge so when you hit the next panel your overlap isn’t on the edge where it will run easily. I see so many people on these videos that spray each panel separately. I’ve been painting for 45 years and I’m always surprised to see how many people don’t understand this technique. ( and yes I know if you’re very careful you can get away with the edge to edge method, but why risk it when there’s no benefit to it?)Keep up the good video’s! 16:56

    Hi Chris, Great video Buddy. I did something I have never done and ordered the gun directly from China, ALIBABA Express. The spray gun comes with 4 tips and I ordered the adapter with cups. The entire order cost $100 including shipping. It will take 3 weeks to arrive as it has to go through customs. As they say buyer beware but I will let you know when it arrives. I have 4 steel rims to paint so that will be my first test with the spray gun. Early Feb. and temp dependent too. Been cold here in CO.

    My garage rule is low overspray so i'm selling all my guns that fog it up. Turbine is lowest overspray, but if using a compressor, I want that gun that can run at lower pressure, minimize fog, and atomize well. R500 is capable of that. Can paint with a 21 gallon as well. Still runs a lot, but does pretty well.

    OK, took your advice and ordered an R500. Just did my first clear coat with the 1.3 and I must say it sprayed beyond my expectations. It sprayed as well as my old Binks #7, which used to be the standard for us old-timey types back in the 80's. For you youngsters out there, if you've never shot a high pressure gun, it's the standard by which all else is judged. But...overspray is a serious problem. You haven't seen overspray until you use one. Any they are heavy.

    @@davemcaferty6347 Here's my $.02...this is probably paint heresy but... I don't really pay much attention to PSI. I pattern the gun before every shoot meaning I adjust the psi and the spray...but I don't have a gauge on the gun. I just see how it patterns on cardboard and how it looks when I hold the gun perpendicular to a light source. Then I pay close attention to how the the paint is laying down on the surface. That requires good lighting. And no matter how good the gun, you are not going to do as good a job on the first paint job as the tenth. You have to get to know your equipment.

    Great video. I just bought a R500 LVLP gun which I'll use to paint my 66 Mustang. Never done this before so these videos definitely help...Thanks. Question - is there an upper end time limit for letting coats flash off?

  • @GarageNoise

    @GarageNoise

    Жыл бұрын

    Basecoat flashtimes are typically around 24hrs but I personally wouldn't wait past a couple hour. Check your manufacturer's technical data sheet. Clearcoat needs to be more precise about 10 mins if you wait too long you can get dye back or loss of gloss. If you coat too quickly solvent pops. Some clears are more temperamental than others. Watching closely and learning a lot... For starters with my compressor it would seem that a LVLP gun would be the best for what I have in mind... my o/h has a nice little Miata Mk1... which desperately needs a new paint job. A mechanic friend is giving me access to his spare bay and I'm going to give it a go myself... the paint is so faded in poor condition even if I put it on with a roller (joke) it would be an improvement.
