The Perfect Lighting for Your Garage - CREE Linear Fixtures (Best In-Class Lighting!)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is it. I have said since the beginning of Obsessed Garage that the Prime lights were a good option, but not THE one. Well this is. These fixtures are absolutely incredible. The quality of light in the garage is by far the best I have ever experienced, and compared to everything else on the market, even at this price, they are by far, without question, the lights you want for your garage. These are a professional grade lighting solution that is nearly impossible to find or buy on the consumer level. I'm very excited to be able to provide these to you guys. For anyone who wants to jump the gun and get in on these before they hit the website, email design@obsessedgarage.com and Kyle and his team will get you set up. Trust me, you want this. Basic 1 or 2 car garages all the way to massive garage facilities will benefit from these fixtures!

Great video, as always. I am a professional lighting designer and the Cree LS fixture is our garage standard. Just a little info, Cree does offer a ‘through wiring’ kit for continuous runs. You can find it on their spec sheet. Let me know if you guys ever need any further lighting info. Happy to run photometry models for you, etc.

Really glad to see that you guys are getting this ball rolling! One note I will add for any beginners with 0-10v is that the Lutron PowPak does not provide the 10VDC. This is provided by the Drivers themselves. The Lutron Powpak will actually sink the voltage as it dims, essentially dragging that 10VDC voltage to 0 at 0% light level. I mainly bring this up for anyone that may have to troubleshoot a faulty driver or bad wiring. If you run into issues with your 0-10V verify your positive and negative wires and ensure they are landed correctly. If the wires are disconnected from the PowPak and the 0-10V wiring is Open then the lights will be full bright. If you short the 0-10V wires or have their polarity reversed, then the lights will be stuck at low end. Best of luck to anyone doing this. I work in the lighting industry and these Cree fixtures are on an entirely different level for anyone that wants to bring up Barinas (or insert other Amazon brand here). The quality of light is outstanding. Pairing this with the Lutron Vive system is a great move for ease of use and a solid system for lighting control!

Another great informative video. We had light calibration boxes when I worked at a newspaper that had high cri and temperature controlled lighting. These boxes were thousands of dollars to light a small card table. Now you have higher quality controllable lights in the entire garage. OG will look even better from now on.

In the US, the homeowner can do work on their house, usually without a permit. The homeowner's best friend can NOT legally do so without a permit/certification. I assume most people don't follow this. If you are replacing an existing fixture, you can do most anything. If you are adding Romex to extend an existing circuit like adding a switch or moving the fixture 12 inches, it must be to current code, or hire an electrician to certify what they did was to code. Often times, to code means running a new line to the breaker or installing a new type of breaker. New breakers will trip if your house wiring is set based on older code statutes like shared neutrals. I also assume most people don't follow this either. 😀

I generally feel you get what you pay for, but the Cree units are far too expensive, especially given the multiple other very good options out there. Over $150 for a 4 foot LED strip is a far too much. Particularly for enthusiast garage use. That said, I do like the fact you feature the most quality products. Thanks. PS - - just saw a 4 footer on line with a price of $450!!!

I’m confused on the dimming wires. I understand how they work but am confused on what wire is needed and how they should be wired. Very conflicting answers for 0-10v. Here, Mike appears to wire them inside the light/“box” with the high voltage wires. Not sure what rated cable he is using. I just went back to Matt’s home garage and Perry very much says that low voltage wire has to be wired outside of the high voltage box except for the rare exception when the box has a divider, which it does not appear that these lights do. I’ve seen all sorts of answers online saying you can use cl2 thermostat wire or alarm wire, some use cl3 wire rated at 300v, Perry used Ethernet cable, some say you have to use 600v rated wire like romex. Obviously codes differ state to state but a bit of clarity would be appreciated!

I heard a lot of “it’s easy” and “this is simple” and “anyone can do this”. I’m like … I must be an absolute moron because I don’t get any of it. Junction, cables, mounting, circuit, wires, cutters, controllers … ummm …… yeah, no. I’d rather just pay someone to do all this stuff. I do like the lighting, though. Seems VERY versatile and cost effective. AND it just looks badass. These will look a bit weird with my garage ceiling being sloped at an angle but I’m sure it’ll be fine. I was going to do the LED can lights but I’d need so many and I mean, it’s a garage. I have a funky garage, it’s a two car but only has a single car roll up door. So it’s basically a 1 car garage with space for a shop or storage. Because it’s sloped, the ceiling is 13’ at the front and 9’ at the back. No water hookup or plumbing BUT it has a drain on the outside lol … still, right now it has just (four) regular light outlets with high output LEDs. It’s dim, to say the least.

What a big difference from your first lightning venture what 4 years ago? Live and learn I say. As many have mentioned in the comments, a photometric diagram will help you get the most out of your lights, and help evenly light every square inch of the shop. I have my own automotive repair shop, and the two best investments I ever made was my lifts (style, type functionality is key) and lighting.

I purchased a total of 12 LED fixtures (5000k) from Lowe's for about $50 per fixture. These were also 4' fixtures. I put three fixtures per bay in my 3 car garage with it's 13' ceilings. Each bay has it's own switch, so I can control the lights by sets of four. The light output is fantastic and the color temperature is perfect for a garage. I couldn't be happier with my lighting and I installed it six years ago when my house was being built. I do everything from car detailing to mechanical work in my garage and I've never wanted more lighting.
