    Great conclusion Matt. Professional videography/narration and what a great time with your boys, which as we know we only have limited time with our kids before they leave the nest. Last time we did Charlie's Creek the opposite direction and as far as I know its not a one-way trail, but I luckily found a pullout to avoid a jeep convoy coming from the west. Other wise there are some choke points in some areas for bi-directional traffic, but still lots of fun as you stated. As others mentioned, Helen is worth checking out and evenb though it seems a bit tourist trappy, the Bavarian downtown area has been there since I was a kid in the 80's and the town doesn't seem to have changed much. Octoberfest is coming up. I know you read all comments and usually respond, so no pressure to respond here. Just wanted to express my appreciation of your posting. It encourages others, including myself, to plan and get out there to experience adventures with our family while we are able. Thank you!

    Only one comment? I hate that your research didn't show Tray mtn and Dicks creek being closed. They have been for years. I'm fortunate enough to be able to say I've done both before they were closed. You kept saying Charlie's Creek was the end, and I kept saying 'no it's not', but then you explained yourself. 😂 When I did what I could of the Traverse, I turned at EVERY corner (dirt). If there was a side trail, I found out what it led to. That's why it took me many weekends to get done what I did. ( SC to Ellijay) We almost have the same drone story. I was recording a buddy for his fishing channel and hit a tree. It recovered and looking at the screen, I saw it was extremely close to the water. So I hit the up lever. Right into the tree again. This time it went waist deep into very clear, very cold 35 degree water. Good thing I paid for the insurance. Thanks for the great story telling!

    Well done. Great adventure it’s so cool you get to share this with your boys. I did the traverse last year and filmed it for my channel and watching your video is so cool to see many similar spots from a different perspective. It makes me want to go back and explore new sections. I would love to jump on one of your future Overlanding trips, possibly for a Collab video?

    Hey! Yeah! I actually watched your Georgia Traverse videos before I did the traverse. I’m hoping to do some bigger trips next year. Not exactly sure where. But there are several trails like the Smoky Mountain 1000, FAT and DB backcountry Byway that I want to do. Just don’t know when or which I’ll do yet.

  • @RoadRashOffRoad

     several of those Overlanding trails, including the Smoky Mountain 1000 and the fat or also on my radar. This past year, I mapped out and organized a DBBB ride. There is currently is no GPX file for the DBBB. You have to get the track from Avenzza, however, I personally remapped the entire DBBB in my Gaia Maps so if you need a GPX file of this track, let me know, and I can share the link with you. Unfortunately, three days before the DBBB trip, I twisted my ankle and ended up in a air boot, so I could not run this trail. However, the rest of the crew went on without me and said it was an absolutely amazing ride. I 1000% have planned to follow the DBBB this year. I would two coordinate this ride with you. Additionally, I plan to do a Outer Banks beach Overlanding trip, possibly this spring going to Cape Lookout. This is a 40+ mile secluded island in which you have to ferry the jeeps over and camp on the beach

    These are not "Trails", they are Forest Service Roads. We did the same route in Sept (Al to SC), it's a very nice scenic trip. I also want to suggest using Thread Lightly techniques in the future, hitting water crossings and mud holes on the roads at anything more then idle speeds causes erosion. This erosion is why those sections of the trail are now closed, I know that they currently looking into closing Charlies Creek.

    I'm thinking of dipping my toe in the overland water with my boys next summer. I'm debating between the SCAR and the Traverse. I don't have a fancy setup. Just an old, bone stock z71 with a topper and some basic camping gear.

  • @SimplyMustGo

    @SimplyMustGo

    9 ай бұрын

    Both are great adventures, but I think it depends a little on how long you’d want to be out and how many miles you want to put in. Scar is going to be easier, but harder to find dispersed camping in most areas. The Georgia traverse will have more exciting features like water crossings and easier camping, but will likely require more miles each day.
