The perfect CARP FISHING holiday

Спорт

If you're looking for somewhere to go on holiday and want to combine a bit of fishing with the usual tourist stuff, then check out this month's vlog! In early February I spent a week on the wonderful island of Gran Canaria courtesy of Dave & Alison Beecham of Carp Gran Canaria. I was accompanied by my old mate Jim Lightfoot and together we caught tons of amazing scaly carp in the beautiful surroundings of Lake Chira. We run through what's available on a trip, taking a look at the whole set up and accommodation. We also talk tactics and show you a few of the gorgeous carp the lake is famous for, topped by a lovely ending on the final morning.

    I went for a day session last year with Dave and his son. It was amazing, caught a couple of carp each so worth doing for the day if your on holiday. I caught the biggest of the day at around 30lb. I’ll be going back again for sure! Well recommended!!

    Simon Crow Carp Fishing TV hi Simon great video .. was just wondering your own thoughts on why the chira carp have got so small .. are they just the next generation of fish & the old ones have died off or what’s your 2 cent on it .. it’s just when I see videos on this place it actually makes me sad as I’ve had several genuine 30’s out it which for me were like catching 50 pound commercial fish .,. I always wanted a 40 from it & got to 38.02 when I stopped going when I noticed I was having trips with all small fish .. I just always wondered what happened these beautiful scaly mirrors that went over 30 & looked incredible.. keep up the great videos & captures Regards David

    David shaw there is no monsters in chira it’s more of a beautiful runs water .. the average weights the fish have actually dropped considerably, I’m not sure why but it’s a lovely place to fish . I use get lots 20’s out here & plenty 30’s up to just over 38 but stopped fishing it when we noticed the weights dropping . Anytime now that you see someone claim a 40 check the picture it’s miles off 40 .. to give u an idea of what it use to produce you could have 10 bites in a day & half them would be 20’s & one would b 30 & on a couple of occasions I’ve had 2 30’s in the same day .. id love know why the fish are now smaller , does anyone know? Maybe it’s just a cycle & it will return to itself in a few yrs time but it’s been few yrs yet since I’ve since a genuine lump out of it

    Matt The Taffy no that cant b it .. it’s never been heavily baited unless your one the guys in the know that wants mountains of runs as the stock in this place is massive .. it’s harder to blank than catch .. I still holiday here every yr & visit the lake & it’s still rarely fished but what I’m getting at is where are all the 30 pound carp gone .. this place never had 60 pound carp but the average is way down .. the average weight is so low now I’m surprised Simon is even bothered fishing this beautiful lake .. his videos are fantastic but with the weather being rubbish he likely needed to fill content or hadn’t been in yrs and realised how small the fish were .. Would love know what happened all these 30 pound carp , maybe they died but they were in there I have lots pictures of bigger fish and great memories of amazing fishing holidays to this venue .. I’m telling you there hasn’t been a chunk out here in ages & when the big angler goes he never even gets a 30 .. now someone like Simon is top drawer so they must b gone .. 6 or 7 yrs ago I thought this place was gonna produce some the best looking 40 pound carp & then all sudden those 30’s stopped coming out 😢

    He’s rite about Brazil nuts being a good bait but they are expensive And the fish in Chira will eat anything So why bother 🤔I

  • @RodDuster
    @RodDuster4 жыл бұрын

    Somebody needs to remove some of the numbers from Chira, yes they are hungry carp as there are far too many in there, DB wont do that as day trippers want easy bites, it has not been the same since 2001 or 02 when there was a massive fish kill, average bites were mid 20's pre then, it could be a proper big scaley fish water again with minimum effort!

  • @davidchurchward2943

    @davidchurchward2943

    4 жыл бұрын

    Rod Duster Interesting comments mate .. I use to fish this water a lot & stopped due to the average weight the fish plummeting .. do you reckon there the problem , too many fish in it ? Just I love the water but when I was used catching lots 20’s & the odd 30 all these doubles have ruined the place for me as let’s be honest in today’s era ya can just stay @ home and catch a double on a day session from a club lake

  • @RodDuster

    @RodDuster

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@davidchurchward2943 Th numbers in there is a big factor, it was 2001 or 02 that almost all of the stock was lost, there was guy on there from Tails Up team if mem servs me right that buried hundreds of big fish and wrote about it in a carp mag (one of the ones that came and went long ago) a lot of people do not realise that big carp mop up little carp for dinner, average weights were much better as it had sorted itself out via mother nature back pre 01/02! Not knocking DB as such he is just making a living (seems like a nice guy) but having a constant stream of bait going in there has also changed the lake too, when they were spawning hungry back when they got the odd scattering of bait here and there the fish were more likely to mop up what they could get as and when they could therefore kept their own numbers down and helped keep the average sizes up! A fix would be to thin them out, the quality of fish in there is unquestionable, will the thinning out happen?? As I said you get a fair amount of day trippers that want a quick bite so I doubt it, if I had a choice I would move at least 50% / 60% to one of two of the other waters on the island for day trippers and get Chira back on track to what it was like back in the day ie big scaley fish water, to me that was better than any big bloated scaleless pale fish water on offer in France PS, Chira has already seeded most of the lake on the island, I don't know if KHV affects the islands but cant see it being a problem myself

  • @davidchurchward2943

    Rod Duster thanks for the reply .. I think it’s just gonna remain a runs water as there’s not enough interest in carp fishing over there to want change & it’s a beautiful venue for Anyone who wants to catch small carp easily while on holiday .. rod do you know of any the other waters on the island producing big fish ? .. I’ve heard rumours & enjoyed doing some time a few yrs ago on ayaguares upper & lower lakes .. was good craic but ended up catching lots small doubles & only one fish over 20 pounds which funnily enough was my very 1st bite .. the lower lake was more prolific producing 17 bites in 2 days but as I say nothing big .. if I knew of somewhere wild like these lakes that had fish over 40 or 50 pounds I’d b willing to put time & effort in but I’m not spending all that money again to catch more small fish .. hitting France this yr but really it’s the quirkier venues that appeal to me more
