I would be 100% OK with an announcement that they weren't building anything new but that they were committed to fixing everything that's broken and reinvesting in the parks as they currently exist. If they don't feel they're in a financial position to spend money on that, then I certainly neither expect nor want them to spend it on new stuff they're just not going to maintain.

It would need an amphitheater for character shows, with one particular villain at its center. You take an escalator deep underground. Not super deep, but deeper than a typical escalator would take you. As you travel down it, you notice that it’s getting hotter. There’s also red and orange light flickering on the walls, and you smell something strange… brimstone. At the bottom of the escalator, you find a large amphitheater lit by torches. The seating is made of what looks like bones. Faint screams can be heard in the distance, and there’s a desk and some couches on the stage. After everyone has taken their seats, the house lights dim, and a voice somewhere says, “Live, from the Underworld, it’s the Agony Ever After Show; with your host… HADES! It would be a talk show where Hades interviews all of the Disney villains who bit the dust at the end of their films and were sent to his domain. He would mock and torture them by making them relive their defeats and demise, and ask them what they were up to now… which is always some sort of fitting torture for their misdeeds. Maleficent has to use a spinning wheel to turn rose bushes into rope that is then used to flog her. Clayton is wrapped up in vines and played with like a yo-yo by a giant gorilla, while other gorillas with guns take pot shots at him. A teppanyaki chef chops up Ursula to cook her like calamari while telling her he’ll stop if she just asks him to, but she can’t because her voice has been taken away. The Evil Queen is force-fed apples by demonic versions of the seven dwarves until her stomach bursts. Dr. Facilier is repeatedly poked with giant needles like a voodoo doll by the evil spirits he used to control (that one is practically canon). To encourage repeat visits, it could be a different random trio of guests every time. After Hades is finished with the third guest, they gang up on him and point out that he was defeated by Hercules and sent to the Underworld too, which causes him to lose his cool and cast them into the pit of souls in a fiery finale.

The "what if" possible lands segment was very frustrating. What do you mean, "what if?" This is coming from the mouths of the people in charge. You have the power to do these things, why are you asking "what if?" Are your plans really that lackluster you have to tease projects that will actually never see the light of day? Tell us you're worried about Epic Universe without saying it. Not to mention, over half of the projects announced at the 2019 D23 have been CANCELLED. If you can't even deliver a spaceship earth update, don't even toy with the possibility of land expansion. It's taken 4 years to build Tron and the Splash Mountain reskin won't be complete until 2024. We're really talking about the possibility of adding themed lands? When we see them? 2054?

Again, I think these are to create a protective barrier against what happened with last time's event of projects like updated Spaceship Earth, the Play Pavillion, Reflections, etc etc etc that they're like "we're doing it!" then they suddenly just poof. so they're using the "blue sky/what if" as a barrier so that it's never "we never said this would actually happen, we just said these are ideas we've come up with that are being considered" so that when they don't, or get changed, the guests wont' throw as big of a fit.

These are my major takeaways: -The Peoplemover is never getting fixed at DL unless they close Tomorrowland and do a full rehaul, which they won’t do as they typically piecemeal those type of changes. -They don’t plan on doing any of the Blue Sky concepts. They only showed them for cheap applause. It is too late on Encanto, and Villains needs a much bigger area. - Disney is countering Epic Universe very poorly and are going to feel the effects in a big way. They likely announce several big things in the aftermath, potentially even a Villains park, but it will be way too late with the slow speed that Disney moves in constructing large projects.

I’ve dropped the MCU and Disney Star Wars has been hit or miss for me, so the parks panel was really the only thing I was looking forward to. I think this panel was proof for me that at this point, the Disney Parks are cheapening out and are creatively bankrupt. At least the Haunted Mansion fan in me will finally get the Hatbox Ghost over here in Florida and Happily Ever After will be back too. That I can get excited for! To elaborate on my comment, instead of giving us a reimagined Journey into Imagination, something people have begged for for years, they just give us a Figment meet and greet. Cool for Figment fans, but what about Journey fans? Instead of updating or trying to make an effort to repair, refurbish, or reinvent older lands and attractions, they’re just replacing them with IP that have no real thematic sense being there and are only fueled by temporary success (I’m looking at you Zootopia, Moana, Coco, and Encanto). And Coco and Encanto in Magic Kingdom? Seriously? When you have EPCOT? I’m not Team IPCOT, but come on Disney, THAT’S a brain dead move. The idea that it’s even being talked about is concerning to me, let alone actually executing the idea. Only the villains area sounds like it could work and even compliment the Magic Kingdom. Each of those Blue Sky projects were some sort of response to Epic Universe, but I’m thinking they’re each a bluff. They’re just setting themselves up for more disappointment from fans. I know we just went through a pandemic and it screwed up everything, but when your rival right down the street can build new original rides in a short time, is rapidly building their next gate, and even expanding, experimenting, and innovating across their international parks post-pandemic… to me, something’s up. Not to mention that these last few years have actually been some of their most profitable. Even attractions mentioned in the last D23 weren’t given any updates. Maybe they’re not dead, but they couldn’t even give us an update on them (except for that Avengers ride). Sorry Josh, but I can’t really look forward to the next 100 years if this is where the Disney Parks are headed. I do wanna clarify this is just the way I feel about it. Not everyone feels this way, and I’m more than sure lots of you are excited for what’s coming. This is simply my two cents as a Disney Parks fan.

I can’t speak on Marvel cause like I said I don’t watch the MCU anymore, but Lucasfilm was meh for me besides Mando S3 and Tales of Jedi. I am however cautiously optimistic for Indy 5. Disney and Pixar didn’t interest me much, although I do wanna watch Disenchanted and another Inside Out sounds neat. I’m also cautiously optimistic for Percy Jackson. I could care less for the live actions. Thankfully, Disney didn’t mention Bleach Thousand Year Blood War, so hopefully this means they don’t have the streaming rights to the anime, although it wouldn’t be the absolute WORST thing, but still a really bad thing (that new trailer was absolutely gorgeous too).

Heh, this whole PeopleMover thing reminds me of all the WandaVision speculation: people drew /so/ many conclusions based on casting, curtains, whatever--a thousand Easter eggs that they swore Meant Something, even though Marvel had given no indication. It seems a lot of the big companies love the mad fan speculation, but increasingly they're having to deal with the backlash when those guesses don't pan out. And while it's true, the fans do it to themselves, the companies know what's going on,and could short circuit the frenzy with a single Tweet most times ("No, WV isn't bringing mutants back." "No, the PeopleMover isn't being announced at D23--or ever." etc). Because by not doing that, they're training fans to do what you're now doing: not hyping yourself up over what might be, and just waiting to hear from Disney about what they're absolutely promising to do (unless they don't again :p).

  • @lutherheggs451

I guess I wasn't expecting much. What I see is leadership that's singularly unwilling to follow through on any of the airy promises they made years ago, and instead focused on throwing out more airy promises, while they continue to make the actual experience of visiting the parks more and more unpleasant. There's actually a lot of cool stuff at Disney World already that wasn't there the last time I went, and I'd love to experience it--except I'm not sure I want to experience *Disney* right now. If it does, I can guarantee you they will announce that they are starting construction on that area beyond Big Thunder. They are choosing to be reactive instead of proactive. That way they do not have to spend the money if they don’t need to and can continue making bigger profits by increasing the prices on everything. The thing they are not thinking about though is if it does affect them they may get so far behind Universal it’s gonna be very difficult to bring those people back. You know how long it takes Disney to build anything. If they don’t start construction on items until they see their attendance being affected it’ll take at least 3 to 4 years before it’s finished being built. By the time they would open that section beyond big thunder for guests I can almost guarantee you they’ll already have a new land added and built and opened at Epic Universe.

If I ever make it to Orlando, it's Universal first, Disney second. Not out of spite or anything -- I just want to see the Potter parks first.

I am very sorry that at Disneyland in Anaheim, CA, part of Tomorrowland, we are not bringing back the New Peoplemover. But when Tomorrowland is refurbished, in the above ground platform, they can still remove all the old / unused Peoplemover & Rocket Rod tracks as well as removing the old & unused Rocket Rod satellite from the top pylon to pave the way for a Heathrow Pod Tout with windows and air conditioners without motorized tracks.

They may surprise us one day and the *PeopleMover* might just spring up out of nowhere. We are sill wondering about the Twitter video that Bob DeMero posted (I think that's who posted it). So many questions and not enough answers.

I always thought Disneyland was a dry park until you mentioned that Walt had a bar on the Mark Twain. Wild!

I’m wondering how they’re going to compete with Epic Universe at Universal. I’m more excited about Super Mario land than anything Disney has announced.
