The People of the Black Circle by Robert E. Howard

Ойын-сауық

"The People of the Black Circle" is one of the original novellas about Conan the Cimmerian, written by American author Robert E. Howard. It is set in the pseudo-historical Hyborian Age and concerns Conan kidnapping a regal princess of Vendhya (pre-historical India) and foiling a nefarious plot of world domination by the Black Seers of Yimsha. Due to its epic scope and atypical Hindustan flavor, the story is considered an undisputed classic of Conan lore and is often cited by Howard scholars as one of his best tales. It is also one of the few Howard stories where the reader is treated a deeper insight on magic and magicians beyond the stereotypical Hyborian depiction as demon conjurer-illusionist-priests.

One of the best stories so far. Thank you. Well narrated. Welcome escapism from the gloomy news of life in Britain that has been blighted by egotism, incompetence, corruption and lack of compassion in British government.

Major governments worldwide exhibit these same maladies. Some are downright murderous tyranny. Barbarism better than Anunnaki Reptilian shapeshifter's civilization; monetary system and religion it's two main tools as they continue to rape and pillage our earth.

I first read Robert E. Howard's Conan when I was 18 years old. The availability of his books were scarce. So I read Marvel's Savage Sword of Conan the Barbarian adaptation of The People of the Black Circle. As I listen to Robert E. Howard's words, they're interspersed with the memory of John Buscema and Alfredo Alcala's wonderful illustrations. Although nothing can compare to my imagination while reading Howard's Conan books. Comic book artists and movie directors fall miserably short while trying to visualize Conan's character.

They try, and face many limitations, whereas one's imagination does not.

This is an amazing story, one of the greatest pieces of fantasy ever written. It is equal parts action, drama, and horror. This is one of Howards crown achievements, along with Tower of the Elephant, Beyond the Black River, and Queen of the Black Coast. All of the original Howard Conan stories are magical, but these four, in my opinion, really define the dark fantasy genre.

Is this one of the stories that inspired the movies the most? Wizard transforms, items transforms (1982 film) Afghuli chief similair to Conan's companion? (2011 film) Wizards appearing from nowhere like the sand ghosts in 2011?
