    Wow,what a great video. I personally would be happy to see peloton succeed. I love my bike plus, tread and guide. I think that adding competitive features to the app would be great too. Peloton has such fantastic fitness content and I really want to see the company succeed. I do think that the delivery of the equipment by peloton's own delivery teams was what set the company apart from the competition and I would love to see them get back to that. It made the whole process feel premium and special. Thanks for this brilliant video Colin.

    I agree re: competitive features. That is something that would really motivate me - you can look at other users stats during the live runs, and try to go faster than them, but I think they could do a lot more with competition and training.

    We have 2 bikes and the Tread and I use the app while working out at work. I wanted the Tread for HRZ2 but have since fallen hard in love with the hikes and power walks. I, like others have noted, really want Peloton to succeed. Are they perfect? No, but I'm not sure there is a perfect, one-size-fits-all system out there. I love their content, their instructors, and their worldwide community. I would not pay the price for the Rower as we already have Concept 2 and now their row content IS available on the app but I absolutely would trade my Tread in for the Tread+, now that the initial experience has totally changed my mind about the use of a treadmill. Without the instructor, I would NEVER get what I get out it what I do. I appreciate the unintended consequence and I don't mind investing in myself for a more fit future. Lastly, I do wish they'd develop a stepper/stepmill for home use. I would buy it in a minute. Thanks for all you do!

    I tried really REALLY hard to buy a basic treadmill…but like iMessage and those damn blue bubbles, I just couldn’t find another user interface/group of trainers that could compete with my current Peloton Bike membership/system. Financing & doing another subscription…just wasn’t going to happen. Long story long…I’m waiting for my Peloton Tread to be delivered next week 😂😊🤷🏽‍♂️

    I agree completely! So, I ended up buying the treadmill at the higher price point....of course I could have purchased a cheaper treadmill, but because I am already in the Peloton ecosystem, I just really wanted the tread to be a Peloton tread, too. Smart business strategy.

    They should absolutely NOT make the app runs exclusive to tread users. I downloaded Peloton on my phone and got addicted to using the app for a long time before I had enough money to buy a tread. I recommend the Peloton app to all of my running friends. And then, the way the instructors talk about the tread made me curious about it, so I went into a showroom to experience it and just fell in love with how it looks, the interface, and how it felt pretty exclusive. Since then, I've also purchased the bike. But the app runs (which can be done outside or on a non-Peloton treadmill) are a great entry point, in my opinion. I would have NEVER become interested in Peloton were it not for the app, and now I have 2 devices and have been paying their dang subscription fee for years and years!

    Excellent review. I agree they are reversing back to a walled garden approach. The Strava attack makes sense and they could lock off all content from the app and make it exclusive to machine owners. This would be to force convert the many people who bought cheaper bikes to use with Peloton’s app only and would never upgrade.

    Peleton just put out a recall last week for the original bike seat. Apparently several seat posts have broken in the middle of a workout causing injuries. I would love to get the treadmill but the price is astronomical.

    I wished they allowed the ability to upload runs to the peloton app. I never run with my phone outside and strictly use my Apple Watch. The outdoor run function requires a user to run with their phone to track the outdoor run. I do have the tread but strictly use it for interval training or tempo runs when I can’t make it to the track

    When Peloton increased my membership price, it basically killed my desire to buy any of their new products Regarding the movement of instructors, they would be wise to remember that it’s the bike that made them.

    They need to have more competition riding like zwift and other riding apps! People like to keep fit but they want to compete with other people! Yes classes and stuff are great but it gets boring! Being able to create your own profile making your own rider and editing your own character and bike is awesome! Peleton needs to update their bike and software and bring something new to compete with other brands!

  • @igray5311
    @igray5311 Жыл бұрын

    This make sense but if they don't lower the price of the Tread a bit it won't compete at other retailers. You compare a Peloton Tread to any other treadmill at Dicks and it's just a pretty coat hanger. Also if they want to compete with Strava then they need to be able to integrate with more wearable platforms. Right now I use Strava to send my exercise details to Samsung health. If they connected directly it would be great.

  • @sqd8r

    Great points on the Strava approach, and overall. I'm just wondering if there is enough of a following to grow like Strava in that content. Strava has cornered the market and more importantly let's you do it on the cheap. For under $500 you can be set up. So Peloton will have to give up the proprietary approach they have taken with the rower and open the app to other bikes. That is the beauty of Strava, any bike can work there.

  • @ConnectTheWatts

    @ConnectTheWatts

    I mean the numbers look pretty good for Peloton in that regard. Strava has over 100 million members… but only 5 million or so actually utilize the app enough to pay the $5 monthly membership. Peloton has 3 million accounts paying $44 dollars/month plus more on their digital app service. And they wouldn’t have to open up all the content, likely just the strength, yoga, etc… would be part of a mid-tier membership. They could still allow you to track and post your own biking and rowing workouts on their social platform, and maybe give out a few trial classes for those who want to check it out.

    It’s like when you purchase a car. The car profits are little to none, but the maintenance and service packages is where dealerships make their money.

    I can’t justify the price of their equipment, but I do think the app is very well priced for its features considering is mind body and soul approach. Apple fitness plus comes close but it just doesn’t have the same energy spread over the varied instructors that peloton does. Plus peloton has far more classes and categories I find. But hardware wise with attached subscription is a hard pill to swallow.

    I’ve seen a lot of ads recently for Peloton’s new clothing so I wonder if this is only a Christmas seasonal thing or if they’re taking their clothing lines seriously. They’re in a great position to offer pieces from several brands like Addidas, lululemon, and spiritual gangster - and the instructors are their models! I know I’ve liked outfits on yoga instructors so much that after class I’ve immediately ordered the outfit on the Peloton Apparel website.

    In other news... I just got an email from Beachbody that after 23 years, they're rebranding as BODi to be more inclusive (eyeroll). Beachbody has a tremendous back catalog of excellent programming. I love Peloton, but Beachbody does a much better job with strength IMO.

  • @ConnectTheWatts

    @ConnectTheWatts

    People love to hate on Beachbody, but their content is top-notch with some very good programs/coaches, and yes I agree they do a much better job on strength than Peloton (tho I still think Tempo is the best here). The rebranding is a positive thing I think, as having 4 brand names (Beachbody online, BODi, Myx, and OpenFit) is usually a bad thing... and now they will have one.

    Well, your Peloton company just monumentally face planted itself by unveiling a $3200 rowing machine that is practically a carbon copy of the machine launched by Concept 2 clear back in 1986. Which retails for $1050 I might add and is the industry standard used by Olympians the world over.

    So what you are saying is hydro needs to release a bike and eat their lunch?

  • @ConnectTheWatts

    @ConnectTheWatts

    Жыл бұрын

    Not really. I love Hydrow but it would be tough to make good outdoor biking content without a bike capable of inclining, which NordicTrack owns the patent for…. something you don’t have to worry about on a rower. Plus making a bike would likely cause Hydrow to end up doing the reverse of Peloton… making their entry rower cheaper and selling a higher cost bike. Would rather see Hydrow make some good partnerships with companies like Tempo/Tonal/Etc…

    I am an app user. I am really disappointed that the ability to purchase Peloton equipment is exclusive to certain areas here in Australia. I live in a remote region and am unable to purchase a bike, have been told that because of where I live I probably never will be. I love the app which I use with my bike and tread and hope that it doesn’t change so much that I have to shift to Apple Fitness. Sorry my whinge for the day!

    Can't you have it shipped to a larger city and then just pay a moving company to ship it to your home? I live in a VERY rural USA and had to do basically that. Had to put the bike together myself, but it wasn't very difficult.

    To be fair, most large fitness equipment manufacturers (iFIT, Nautilus, Johnson Health, Horizon, etc.) have faced larger recalls, they just don’t have as much publicity around it. Especially common for Treadmills (Johnson for example had to recall 20,000 units earlier this year).

    CEOs who used to be CFOs are bad news for a company. Just look at the last two Southwest Airlines CEOs who both have CFO backgrounds. They both destroyed the reputation and amazing things the visionary CEO built. It's now a BIG red flag for me...
