"The Peavine" - Phoenix Subdivision of BNSF Railway
"The Peavine" - Phoenix Subdivision of BNSF Railway
A look in 4K of the Phoenix subdivision of the BNSF Railway. until 1960 Ash Fork itself was on the transcontinental Santa Fe line but in 1960 it was bypassed. However trains remain to Phoenix and the line is presently busier than in years with the rapid growth of the city of Phoenix and corresponding upswing in Intermodal traffic. In fact a new intermodal facility is planned at Wittmann on this line to better serve the rapidly growing Phoenix metropolitan area!
A word of note: The Ashfork Historical Museum is HIGHLY recommended... it charges no admission and has an OUTSTANDING replica display of the Escalante Harvey House restaurant with amazing Santa Fe Railroad history. Highly recommended! And great prices for your "Route 66" gifts as well! I was just there a few weeks ago and will be going back the next time I'm in Ash Fork!!!
Also of interest is the Monday thru Friday interchange operation at Castle Hot Springs with the Arizona and California Railroad which has trackage rights into Phoenix.
Comments are very welcome!!! Enjoy!

I had an uncle who spent his full career as a Santa Fe engineer in Arizona. He gave me my first train ride, but I was too young to remember. One of his runs was the Peavine. This video shows a lot of the beauty in Arizona that most people will never see. His last run just before he died was the Prescott to Paulden. After his death they closed the Prescott depot and pulled up the tracks. Thank you for reminding me of him and how much he is missed. Thank you for your excellent videos, and please don't stop, they are the very best!

Some people make videos and the music is a distraction, NOT HERE, the music here, puts you in the film, your part of it, like Frank Sinatra said about Count Basie, he can clearly do it, spectacular video 💯💯👏

Again, very good video. When I started working for the Santa Fe, I spent plenty of time working with the tie gang,, a rail change gang,, Roadmaster relief job at Glendale, and track rebuilding gang around Phoenix (Mobest) Yard. Forty-plus years ago, and how the time flew by. Anybody know what Hassayampa means? Tell the truth, now, either you know, or you don't.
@AcmeCinematography
Жыл бұрын
The name “Hassayampa” comes from a Yavapai Indian word, hayesamo, meaning “following the water as far as it goes.” Apache Indians referred to it as the “upside down river” because it flows underground most of the way. From the web :)
@glennfoster2423
Жыл бұрын
@@AcmeCinematography I had a friend tell me Hassayampa meant "if you drink water from the river you can never tell a lie.". Hassayampa was the unofficial name of 42 and 47, the passenger trains between Phoenix and Ashfork (later Williams Jct).

Thank you for another informative video of the BNSF on former Santa Fe trackage in Arizona. The scenery was beautiful as the trains passed along the rails. The length of some of those trains was impressive. Do you have any idea how long some of the trains were? The cement plants in Arizona are huge.

This line I don’t think has the super long trains that the transcon can get that are 3 miles long but they can be good sized trains at time !

I'm planning a trip next month maybe, was there a daily count of trains?

Quite a few. Hard to chase them on this line as the tracks go away from the highways for great lengths of time. We recommend the line between castle hot springs and congress. Between congress and Kirkland difficult to get near tracks. From skull valley to Paulden difficult to get near as well. Probably 6 trains during daylight hours a day on it

The scenary is good however I am curious about the Bridge, its location. (4:55 on this video). Why they have chosen this path ? Why they have not gone straight rather than so many curves. The bridge height could be less. ++++ a lot more.

Can be slow on traffic … it is difficult to follow as the tracks from Congress to Kirkland are far from the road. And again from Skull valley to chino valley really can’t access the line. But if you have an entire day you should get a few trains at the sights you are at. Bring a scanner!
